I turn my head slightly towards the girl.
"Are you tracking it too, or not?" I question with more of a serious tone.
"Of course I am. I just enjoy seeing new blood," She answers with a smile on her face.
This girl really is strange... I don’t know what she’s trying to accomplish with me. It feels like she is against me.
Then again I can’t even really say that since she could’ve attacked or killed me by now. Especially since she is far more experienced than I am.
"Great," I say with a low voice.
I continue on after that, occasionally listening for the sound of her footsteps behind me. But nothing is really following me, it is almost like she isn’t even here.
There’s no indication of where the hell this dragon went or where it is going. Damnit.
~Keep calm. It is advised not to be angry while searching.
For what? I mean I don’t disagree but is there a specific reason not to be angry or frustrated about anything?
~In this scenario it can be used to the enemies advantage. That is why I advise keeping a cool head.
Understood.
Flap! Flap! Flap!
The sound of wings go above me yet again so I begin to run underneath them... Trying to have faith that I’ll catch up to this dragon eventually.
Like before I end up even deeper into the forest with no signs of the dragon as it disappears all over again.
This time around I can hear water rushing past in the distance.
I must be near a river or stream. Either way this could be a nice spot to catch my breath momentarily.
Hunting dragons down is kind of a pain in the ass.
I’m sure with time I’ll get better and better with it, just right now it definitely sucks quite a bit. It also keeps disappearing completely like it was never above me in the first place.
This dragon really does possess something unique that I want to take for myself if possible. That dragon essence has to be powerful.
~It is possible that he carries some sort of enhanced speed trait or maybe teleportation?
Both sound like great potential traits to take from the dragon. I won’t complain about either one that it gives me... Just teleportation could be a crazy big one to get.
"It is odd how this dragon keeps managing to escape," The girl speaks up from behind me.
I don’t turn around this time.
"It doesn’t even know I’m hunting it yet," I respond with a serious tone.
"Maybe, maybe not. Dragons are pretty smart when it comes to hunters," She says with a carefree tone.
"Aren’t you hunting this dragon down as well?" I question.
She comes up and sits down in front of me on one of the broken logs.
"I am. But I’m also watching you," She responds with one of her arms wrapped around her leg.
"Could you at least be kind enough to tell me a name," I say with a little bit of frustration in my voice.
She smiles at me for a moment.
"Veronica," She replies without hesitation.
Veronica? Easy name to remember at least. I just don’t understand why she’s so keen on watching me hunt this dragon. Nothing about this has been easy or like th previous hunt.
It keeps disappearing out of nowhere and I can’t seem to understand why it does.
I scratch my head for a moment before taking a seat myself.
"Kain. Not sure if you already knew that or not," I say with a low voice.
"Nope. I just could tell you were new, that’s all. But I like the name," Veronica replies with a smile still on her face.
"Great. How long have you been following this dragon?" I ask to change the topic now.
She goes silent for a moment before finally deciding to answer.
"About a month now," Veronica answers as she looks up towards the sky.
The sky above us is completely blocked out by tree branches and leaves as far as the eye can see.
A whole month of following a dragon just for it to completely disappear every single time? That sounds kind of frustrating if I’m being completely honest.
I’m already getting frustrated and it hasn’t even been that long yet. Only a couple of hours at best.
Yet she seems completely fine with it taking so long.
"Aren’t you frustrated?" I ask with some curiosity.
"Most people would be in my shoes, but I enjoy the hunt. This means it’ll be a lot more satisfying when it dies," Veronica answers.
"That kind of makes sense," I say with a soft tone.
Now that she is directly in front of me again with more of a chance to observe her, I notice she isn’t carrying a sword. Not a single weapon appears to be at her waist or on her back.
It just makes her feel even more off than before.
~Observation has been recorded. I believe she could be a potential threat but currently I lack data to make a proper assessment.
If she was an enemy... Why wait so long to attack me? I don’t think she has the intentions of harming me or to be an enemy of mine.
~Don’t make assumptions.
I’m not. This is just me trusting my gut a little bit here.
"You like to go quiet I noticed, not that I mind. Just makes me wonder what you might be thinking about," Veronica speaks with a bit of a curious tone.
"The best way to find the dragon," I respond calmly.
She stands back up from the broken log and walks up to me. Her eyes still staring right at me.
"Shouldn’t you be worried about me being a dragon?" Veronica asks with a playful tone in her voice.
With her not being serious about it... I could only assume she isn’t one.
"I don’t think you are one," I respond confidently.
She gives a shrug before turning around again.
