With that conversation done, I turn my focus back to the hunt at hand.

"I probably can send a hand here," Veronica speaks up.

"What would you do exactly?" I ask curiously.

She steps ahead of me and looks up towards the sky.

"I’ll find the dragon and ground him of course," Veronica responds with a laid back tone.

She makes it sound easier than it actually is. Then again, I don’t really know the strength of this girl in the slightest.

I know she is definitely stronger than me at the moment which is why I’m out here hunting dragons in the first place. Strength is exactly what I need.

Letting her help me would make me weak.

"Actually I’ll handle it," I say with a serious tone.

"Are you sure you don’t want my help?" Veronica asks with a curious look on her face.

"Yeah. I’ll handle it," I respond.

I walk past her while continuing to look for any sort of signs of this damn dragon once again. Everything looks completely normal which is fine if I wasn’t hunting.

Hmm. Something is noticeably off about this path though.

No claw marks, no destruction along this path any further. It is like everything is peaceful.

~This is the ultimate opportunity for them to sneak up on you, keep your guard up.

That is already the plan with the way dragons seem to act around any sort of hostility. I’d rather play it as cautious as I can.

I won’t always have an opportunity to be quiet so this has to be something I utilize now. Especially since it doesn’t even know that I’m following it yet.

It just has some really good timing with its disappearances.

SHAKE!! SHAKE!!

Everything around me begins to shake violently for a few moments before suddenly coming to a complete stop.

Immediately I look around for any sign of the dragon but it appears to be completely empty. The rumbling couldn’t have just been random or out of nowhere.

My eyes continue to dart around for any sign of the enemy.

Seriously? Why is it so damn quiet around me?!?! I should’ve seen something at the very least.

The silence is killing me...

I know it was caused by a dragon, just I don’t know where it is.

A hand graces my shoulder and I instinctively draw my sword as I turn around; it is just Veronica standing there with a calm expression on her face.

She doesn’t appear to be bothered or worried about this in the slightest which is strange.

"I’m guessing you felt all of that too," Veronica says while a small smile forms.

"Of course I did, aren’t you worried about it?!" I question with concern in my voice.

"Not in the slightest. This dragon didn’t cause it," Veronica responds with confidence.

I shift my attention away from her with my sword still ready, but I don’t see any damage around us.

Everything happens for a reason, that’s what I believe at least. I know that I keep meeting these people... But all of them are here for a reason.

Veronica might be a mystery to me right now but I think she could be a good ally in the future.

~What got you thinking about this?

I realized that I need to stop panicking and put my mind at ease. Thinking about everything like this helps me calm down a little bit.

It’ll help me prepare for the fight ahead of me at the very least.

~I understand now. I’ll make sure to observe in quiet.

It is fine. I’m getting used to you talking in my head like this... Just need to find a better way to talk to you. There’s also a lot more to you that I need to learn about.

~I’ll happily explain more about the system as you get stronger. Right now I believe you don’t need any further assistance.

I appreciate that too. Getting stronger on my own without fully relying on whatever you are... Helps.

Tap. Tap.

I glance over my shoulder towards Veronica who is trying to get my attention.

"The dragon is further ahead. I can sense it," Veronica says with certainty.

"Then I won’t waste any time here," I reply before starting to run.

Actually this is the perfect opportunity to use the stance and technique to get some distance before I run. I almost completely forgot about it for a moment there.

I quickly position my feet as I lift my sword up slightly.

Dash!!!!

I feel myself rush past a bunch of trees in an instant and the moment my feet touch the ground I begin to run.

~You are getting better with the stance.

I don’t say anything as I continue to run through the woods.

A roar echoes throughout the woods as I get closer and closer to where this potential dragon may be. It is kind of deafening at first.

~There is no mistaking that the dragon is definitely ahead of us.

I’ve already assumed that much. You are just stating the obvious at this point.

"Wait up!" Veronica shouts in the distance.

I don’t hesitate to keep going since this is my opportunity to finally see the dragon that’s been flying above me this whole time. I’ve only heard the wings.

Waiting up at this point would be kind of dumb. I can handle this on my own without any help.

~Correct.

Dash!!!

I manage to pull off the dash once again as I find myself further ahead. A small clearing awaits me with a abandoned cabin sitting on a hill.

My eyes immediately dart around for the dragon as I start to notice that I don’t see it anywhere.

Did this bastard already shift back into a human form?!?! I don’t really understand how fast it is yet.

There’s no way it just disappeared on me again after the amount of speed I put in to get here. What the hell is it capable of doing?!?!

~Look towards the cabin.
