My eyes dart towards the cabin, but again nothing appears to be there.
I thought you told me to look towards it because the dragon was there...
~I just told you to look towards it. We should go investigate it.
This feels like it could be a trap. I don’t know if it would be smart to head over to the cabin right now.
~It is your decision at the end of the day.
I look behind me quickly and notice Veronica is still following behind me, yet again I notice she doesn’t seem to be concerned in the slightest.
She looks calm as hell, almost like there isn’t a dragon lurking about.
I’m pretty calm I think... Just I don’t want to get caught off guard somehow. This dragon has way different behavior than the first one I hunted.
There’s no telling how deadly it is either.
I scratch my head for a moment.
"You seem a bit lost," Veronica speaks up.
"I’m just deciding if it is smart to investigate the cabin or not," I respond while staring towards the cabin.
She walks past me.
"Then allow me to decide for you," Veronica says while continuing to head towards it.
Immediately I follow behind her.
I keep glancing around as we make our way towards the cabin but nothing is really around us. Just the forest and the open field itself.
The cabin really is in a nice spot with the way it sits on the hill.
A few moments pass by and we reach the cabin. Up close I can see that it is in perfect condition with no real damage to it.
It is almost like the cabin was recently built since it doesn’t have any signs of weathering damage. This all seems kind of strange... Why would a dragon build all this?
"It is a really nice cabin," Veronica speaks up with a bit of awe in her voice.
"I’m just surprised that it is freshly built," I respond with caution in my voice.
Creakkkk!
I shift my focus back towards the door as she opens it up.
"Let’s check out the inside portion now," Veronica suggests.
Instead of speaking I just follow her into the cabin, one hand on the hilt of my sword as I prepare for what lies ahead.
But.... Upon entering the cabin I see that it isn’t really furnished and nobody appears to be living here otherwise. There’s no claw marks, no signs of any struggles, and no personal belongings.
"This is the right place," Veronica says with confidence.
"How can you tell?" I ask with curiosity in my voice.
She turns back towards me with a smile.
"The dragon is still here," Veronica answers with some excitement in her voice.
I rush over to a window to look for any signs of the dragon but the skies are completely empty. After that I rush back to the center of the room and try to scan for anything out of the ordinary.
Nothing.
Nothing.
What the hell is she talking about?!? There’s no dragon here.
There is nothing here but an empty cabin.
I need to keep my frustration to myself... I don’t want to take it out on her, even if she’s bullshitting me right now. A calm and collected mentality is the way to fight back against the dragons.
Anger and frustration will just get me killed if I let it get to me.
~You seem to be smart.
I was taught by the right people so this is just me putting the lessons to use.
~Noted.
I draw my sword after calming down and continue to look towards her.
"Why don’t you have any weapons?" I question with a calm tone in my voice.
"Not every slayer needs to rely on a sword," Veronica answers without any hesitation.
I can feel the sweat starting to drip down my face.
"Then can you tell me how you know if the dragon is still here!?!" I question.
"If I told you all my secrets... What fun would that be?" Veronica responds with her arms behind her back.
Flap! Flap! Flap!
THUD!!!!
It finally sounds as if the dragon from earlier just landed. That is probably the first time I’ve heard it land since I started hunting it.
"We’ll finish this conversation later," I say with a serious tone.
She doesn’t say anything back this time.
So I rush towards the window by the door and quickly peek out the window.
A full fledged dragon is sitting out in the field, large enough to reach the top of the trees and a bit bigger than the size of this cabin. It has dark black scales mixed with a bit of green.
It’s grey eyes stare towards me.
I definitely think it knows we are here which means stealth is out the window. I’ll need to prepare for what’s to come.
~With stealth out the window, I’d suggest using your new stance and techniques.
That definitely might be the most effective way to get any damage done against this dragon. I am just a little confused by what it is doing currently.
It is fully aware that I’m here but it isn’t attacking just yet.
Something about this whole situation feels off and I can’t really figure out why that is. Maybe I am just overthinking the whole situation.
~You do have a habit of doing that occasionally.
Thanks for noticing.
"So how do you want to handle this situation?" Veronica asks with curiosity in her voice.
I turn my head slightly to look back at her.
"I’ll just have to fight the dragon head on," I respond with a serious tone.
It might be a bit suicidal but how else would a slayer really go about this? There’s only two options at the end of the day regardless.
Stealth or directly. There is no in-between.
It lets out another deafening roar as I start to open the door.
~Don’t die during this fight Kain.
