A few hours pass by as I sit against the cabin wall.
Pain has been slowly drifting but every time I assume it is finally gone... It comes back one hundred times stronger.
This has really been a painful recovery.
I need to plan everything out smarter in the future so I don’t end up in a predicament like this again. Maybe a bit more caution before approaching a place like this.
That could work since that was when it all started.
We approached this cabin and then the dragon showed up. It’ll be smarter to just avoid isolated buildings like this in the future.
My eyes drift down towards my sword which lies on the floor next to me. Cracks go all throughout the blade now, especially towards the top.
I run one of my fingers along the blade.
Every single crack is so easy to feel that I can tell the blade won’t last much longer... The damage is definitely too much.
I knew I’d need another sword at some point, just not this soon.
It would’ve been nice to make this last until I killed a couple more dragons, but it will never be that easy. I’ll just need to get a stronger blade like Raven suggested awhile ago.
I’ll need one made from the stronger material.
~I don’t mean to interrupt after you asked for silence, but I definitely think a new blade is wise.
Don’t have anything new to say to my thoughts?
~Hmm. I think that you are pretty spot on with the pain. It’ll keep coming and going as the recovery process works its magic.
What do you mean by that?
~You recover differently than the others around you.
Ahhh. The recovery thing I saw in the stats screen... So that did matter?
Silence lingers for a moment.
~Correct. It aids in a faster recovery than the normal human is capable of doing. I’d say in a couple hours you should be fine.
A couple hours to be mostly recovered? That isn’t too bad at all.
It just means that I am screwed in a battle if I need to heal since there is no instant solution. Even the dragon essence didn’t heal me completely when I absorbed it.
I’ve learned quite a lot in such a short span of time.
Step. Step. Step.
I look up to see Veronica is in front of me now.
"I knew there was something different about you," She teases with a smile on her face.
"Just how I get stronger is different than the normal person somewhat," I respond calmly.
I mean it still takes a lot of physical effort to get stronger but the essence itself does give me some sort of new strength.
The strength to enhance my techniques.
She takes a seat against the wall next to me.
"Not just that, you had the eye of a dragon for a moment back there," Veronica says casually. "Not everyone gets to witness such a thing."
"I’m still not sure why that happened yet," I reply quietly.
"Dragon essence is quite a powerful thing to take in as a human," Veronica says with a low voice.
She knows I’m absorbing the dragon essence?!?! Is it really that obvious when I do it?
"It was that obvious?" I question.
She shakes her head.
"I just have seen it once. It was a long time ago that I got to witness such a sight," Veronica answers while looking up at the ceiling.
"Another human possessed such a thing?" I ask with curiosity in my voice.
"They weren’t a full human... They were a half breed," Veronica responds.
A half breed? So a dragon-human hybrid?
I don’t think I’ve ever heard of such a thing in all the years I’ve been alive. Stories like that probably would never reach the village though.
They didn’t really want us polluting our minds with a bunch of nonsense.
But now I don’t really know what to think since the Elder is a lot different than I remember. He helped me awaken this slayer power within and has been teaching me a lot.
He even used to be a slayer at some point in time.
All things I never would’ve known if the village never got destroyed like it did. I probably would’ve just lived a normal life like nothing ever happened.
The war would wage on as I live.
~False. You would’ve been forced to awaken at some point or another.
What the hell are you taking about?
~The village would’ve been destroyed sooner or later. It just would be at a different point in your life, if anything.
You sure know a lot about this whole hypothetical scenario.
~There’s a lot I know, but I don’t see it as a necessary thing to tell you about.
Ughhhh. You really are a frustrating thing to talk with at times.
Poke.
My attention shifts in an instant as I see Veronica’s hand in front of my face.
"You were pretty zoned out for a minute there," Veronica says before letting out a small chuckle.
"I just think about a lot at once sometimes," I reply.
"I can definitely tell. There is nothing wrong with thinking, but it happened after I told you about the person in the past," Veronica says with a calm and collected tone.
I sit quietly for a moment.
"Right. The person who could also absorb the dragon essence, the half breed," I reply quietly.
"I don’t really remember what ever happened to them, other than the fact that they disappeared," Veronica says with a carefree tone.
She really isn’t that much of a serious person, is she? Even when we were fighting for our lives... She didn’t stress or get that serious.
Not that I can recall at least.
I definitely have some respect for her. Not everyone can be that calm in the face of a dragon, well multiple dragons.
"I wonder why they would just disappear," I reply with curiosity in my voice.
It is a good thing to question. Are they even still alive?
