Raven looks back at me briefly before looking at the woman behind the counter.

"We need to register him to the guild," Raven says with a respectful tone.

"I see. I just need a name and what the profession is," She replies with a smile.

I approach the counter.

"Kain Valtor and I’m a slayer," I speak up.

Getting closer to the counter I realize she has a small name tag with the name "Anna" on it.

"Perfect," Anna responds as she fills out the paper.

After a few moments she finishes filling out the paper and pulls out some sort of badge.

"This is for you," Anna says while handing it over to me.

I take it from her.

"What is this for?" I ask with a bit of confusion in my voice.

"It is for keeping track of your rank within the guilds," Anna answers without any hesitation.

"Ranks within the guilds?" I question.

"Guilds have ranks to keep track of members. It is good for determining who should have access to higher tier quests," She explains with a calm and collected tone.

Ranks? I guess that makes sense.

I’m not really aware of how ranks work yet or why they even matter in the first place. It is probably better to ask her more questions about the guild.

"Could I still take on higher tier quests?" I ask with curiosity in my voice.

"Yes. Just it wouldn’t be recommended," Anna responds with a serious tone.

Best to assume it is because they don’t want to be responsible for sending people to their death. That is the only logical conclusion I can come to with that.

~You are making quite an accurate assumption.

It just makes the most sense to me.

~You’d be correct since most people won’t take on dragons as a first or second quest.

Not everyone is trying to be a slayer either so that sounds about right.

~You don’t have to be a slayer to hunt dragons.

I know, but it is dumb to hunt them without a slayer in my opinion. Slayers are dedicated to hunting dragons and know a lot more about them than most people.

Hmm.

It reminds me of the hunters from my first hunt that died to the dragon I killed... They shouldn’t have been by themselves.

~That wasn’t something you could avoid.

"Kain you are all set. Unless you have more questions for me," Anna says, interrupting my train of thought.

"I think I’ll save any other questions I have for another time," I reply with a soft tone.

"Alright. Nice meeting you then," Anna says with a smile still on her face.

I give a small wave before exiting the guild hall with Raven.

The town still appears to be quite busy during this time, even as the sun is slowly starting to set.

Has time really been moving that fast today? I guess I haven’t been paying enough attention.

I’ve been getting a tour of the whole place and honestly, it is a lot to take in. The village wasn’t small... But it definitely wasn’t as big as this town.

Hyvale is definitely an interesting place so far.

The walk back through the town is quite peaceful, even with everyone roaming about.

"Let’s get you a room at the inn and then everything should be just about sorted," Raven says with some relief in her voice.

"That sounds good to me," I reply quietly.

After a bit more walking we reach a small cozy looking building with a sign hanging above the door. The first part is mostly scratched off. "— Inn".

She pushes open the door and heads inside.

As I follow behind her I realize it is quite nice inside here. The furniture is placed in a way that matches the layout.

Some people are sitting around talking and some are just reading while they wait.

This time it appears to be mostly humans inside the inn. I don’t really know if that is a good thing or not.

"Just one room?" The man asks from behind the desk.

I shift my attention towards the desk in the center of the room.

A man sits there writing down some information. All while I wait for Raven to tell me what’s next from here.

Step. Step.

It is odd that I heard the man say something about one room before everything else got quiet. They must’ve lowered their voices for some reason.

I think Raven is keeping something hidden from... I just don’t know what it is or why she would.

~Perhaps some things are best left unanswered.

You just don’t like giving answers to everything so I can’t say I’m surprised by that response from you. I also completely disagree with that.

Answers aren’t a problem to give to people.

It should be used to encourage someone to learn or understand something better than they did before.

~You are entitled to your own opinion on things Kain.

Tap. Tap.

I turn my head to see Raven standing there with a key in her hand.

I’m glad she got me out of the conversation.

"This will go to a room upstairs. Room 10," Raven says calmly.

"Is there anything else you want to show me before you depart?" I ask with some curiosity.

She ponders for a moment.

"I think anything else can be learned naturally without my guidance," Raven answers with a smile.

"I’ll take your word for it then," I say with a casual tone.

"Just head back to Balgrims forge in the morning and I’m sure he’ll have the sword ready for you," Raven replies with confidence.

That was a nice way to divert the conversation, not that I mind.

Some conversations don’t need to keep going when there is nothing else to be said.

"Thank you for helping with all this," I say with gratitude in my voice.

"Of course. I don’t think any slayer should be left in a bad spot when starting off," Raven replies with kindness in her voice.
