I calmly take the sword from him and lift it for a few moments. The weight of the sword is definitely quite light compared to my previous one.

Is this really what a slayers sword is supposed to feel like? I’m definitely lacking in the experience side of doing business like this as well.

"Like I said, it should be pretty light," Balgrim says with excitement. "I wanted your first blade as a slayer to be perfect!"

"I appreciate it greatly Balgrim," I reply respectfully and with a bit of gratitude.

"No need for all that. You are helping with the war which is a big thing for everyone," Balgrim says.

"Either way it is perfect," I reply while testing to make sure it fits into the scabbard.

It clicks into the scabbard without a single problem and I start to turn around.

"If you need anything else, don’t hesitate to come back to me Kain," Balgrim says with a loud and cheerful tone.

"Of course," I reply before finally walking away.

Checking out the guild hall one last time wouldn’t be a terrible idea... I also might need to figure out some new clothes.

One look down at my current outfit could say a lot. Cuts all throughout the entire outfit with spots where blood is now a permanent part of the design.

With that I continue to push forward while taking in the busy streets once again.

People all chat amongst themselves while searching for whatever it is that they want to purchase today. It almost feels like there is no war going on outside of the town.

Bump!!

"Woah. You should probably pay more attention to where you are going," A girl speaks from in front of me.

I shift my gaze to her to see who I just bumped into.

Standing before me is a girl with long crimson red hair, red eyes, and she is wearing a floral dress with traces of silver armor integrated into the material.

It is impossible to miss the sword at her waist along with the all black boots that also appear to be made of a similar material to my sword.

"I apologize. The town might’ve caught my attention more than I expected," I respond with a bit of embarrassment in my voice.

I really did get caught off guard by the town but her beauty is something else.

"Don’t worry, I’m just teasing you. I’m Sylvia," She says with a cheerful tone.

"Kain," I reply without hesitation.

She looks me up and down for a moment.

"I take it you are a slayer as well," Sylvia says with a small smirk on her face.

"I am. You appear to be one as well," I reply while taking notice of her whole appearance again.

She gives a nod before turning away from me.

"Heading to the guild hall?" Sylvia asks with curiosity in her voice.

"Yes. I’d like to just check out the quest board one more time before leaving," I respond with a calm tone.

"Leaving?" Sylvia questions.

"Yes to hunt more dragons," I answer.

She begins walking so I follow behind her since we aren’t really done talking yet.

"Right. Right. Hunting dragons is our job after all," Sylvia says. "Maybe I’ll tag along."

"Huh? Why would you tag along with someone you just met?" I ask with a bit of confusion in my voice.

I can’t really be surprised when Raven, Veronica, and even Ash would help me out without really knowing me that well. There really must be something that I’m missing.

People shouldn’t just join you because you do the same thing... What if I was a terrible person?

~They would know. It isn’t hard to read people.

Hunting dragons does require that so you are right. As much as I hate to admit that.

As we make it to the front of the guild hall she turns around.

"I don’t think you are a bad person, plus it has been awhile since I’ve traveled with another slayer," Sylvia answers with a carefree tone.

"Not really sure what to say to that," I say with a soft tone.

She shakes her head before going to push the door open.

"Nothing. Let’s just check things out," Sylvia replies with a casual tone.

I follow her into the guild hall and back over to the quest board. Everyone is whispering this time around, but it is mostly about Sylvia.

She must have quite the reputation here if everyone is talking about her the moment she enters the hall. It makes me curious how many dragons she has slain or what the reputation could be from otherwise.

"Ignore the whispering. People always like to talk about the things they can’t have," Sylvia says while keeping her voice low.

"Things they can’t have?" I question.

"Yes. I don’t really work with other slayers much plus a lot of them gaze at me for other reasons," Sylvia answers with a bit of disgust in her voice.

Ah. Those reasons both make a lot of sense to me.

Even I was caught off guard by her appearance earlier when I bumped into her; she is quite stunning but I can’t let that be

something I focus too much on right now.

There’s other priorities to worry about at the moment.

I look towards the quest board and nothing on it appears to be talking about dragons in the slightest. Most just have to deal with different issues that slayers don’t usually handle.

I’d be curious if there are other types of slayers out there though. Maybe a goblin slayer or skeleton slayer exists too.

All good for thought.

"I don’t see anything interesting," I say, changing the topic from before.

"Me either. We should get going then," Sylvia replies as she grabs hold of my arm.

She quickly drags me out of the guild hall and away from the main street.

"What is this about?" I question.

"Just avoiding any potential threats lingering around the area. Rumors of a slayer killing multiple dragons in one fight is spreading," Sylvia responds while keeping her voice down.

"That doesn’t seem like a big deal," I say calmly.

"In this area it is," Sylvia replies with more of a serious tone.
