People walk past the alleyway as I ponder on what she just said.
Why would people in this area care? That should be a good thing if anything.
"I still don’t understand. This whole town is dedicated to slayers so if anyone knows, it’d be a good thing," I say with some confusion in my voice.
She lets out a sigh.
"Some dragons have mastered the art of infiltration Kain. You have to understand that they could sneak into this town," Sylvia replies with a low voice.
Ahh. Yeah I wasn’t thinking about it the way I should. It should’ve been obvious to me that dragons could infiltrate the towns without a problem.
She moves away from me a bit.
"We’ll stay here one more night to be safe," Sylvia says while turning her head to check for anyone who could be listening.
"I don’t really have a place here or money at the moment," I reply with an honest tone.
Her eyes drift back to me.
"I’ll handle the place we stay at so don’t worry about it," Sylvia assured me.
She grabs my arm and drags me along once more as we head deeper into the alleyway. Eventually we reach the end where a door can be seen to the right of us.
I watch for a moment as she immediately grabs the handle of the door and pulls it open.
"Inside here," She instructs.
"Alright," I respond before heading in.
As I enter through the door I can see a small light just barely lighting up the room. Inside is a bunch of old furniture that looks like it hasn’t been touched in years.
Glance.
Another door is to the left of all the furniture, must be the bedroom.
Click.
I slightly turn my head to notice she closed the door and is standing next to me now.
"Sorry it is very dusty here. I haven’t used this place in quite a long time," Sylvia says with a soft tone.
"It doesn’t matter to me. I just am curious where I’ll be sleeping," I reply while taking a few more looks.
Instead of speaking she walks ahead of me and pushes open the door on the left side of the room.
I head over to the room and enter it.
Inside is two different beds with a small lantern on the table between them.
So this is the room I’ll be staying in tonight.
Honestly it isn’t that bad looking in here so this won’t be too bad. Sleep here will probably be just as good as it was at the inn.
It is also nice to have someone who is looking out for me like this. Sylvia is already proving to be a good ally to have on my side here.
I don’t think I’ll always get this lucky but I’ll appreciate it for the time being.
"Pick whatever bed you want, I’m not picky," Sylvia says with a smile.
I go over to the bed on the right and get comfy. It honestly feels like the same quality as the bed at the inn.
The wool actually might be the same as the inn but I wonder how she managed to acquire it.
~She probably bought it. If you make enough money anything is possible.
That’s a fair point. I didn’t think about it since I’ve hardly bought anything yet.
I’ll definitely invest in the same kind of quality when I go to get a bed myself some day. Stuff like that matters when you want to get the proper amount of sleep.
I place my sword up against the side of the bed as I lay down.
"This bed will work fine," I say while looking up at the ceiling.
"Then it is yours for tonight," Sylvia replies while getting comfortable on the other bed.
"I appreciate you bringing us to a safe place," I say with some appreciation in my voice as well.
She stays silent for a moment.
"There’s no reason to thank me or anything. We are constantly at war so I wouldn’t want to watch another slayer die when I can do something," Sylvia explains.
"I understand," I respond.
"You also bumped into me," Sylvia teases.
"That was a complete accident," I respond, a bit of embarrassment in my voice.
What is with this girl catching me off guard? I can’t really understand it... Especially when the others didn’t get me like this.
~I think this is something best left to you. It’ll be a lot better when you understand it.
What the hell does that mean?
~You will understand it one day.
I run a hand through my hair before closing my eyes.
"Accident or not, it isn’t bad to me," Sylvia mutters.
"What?" I question.
"Nothing. Get some sleep Kain," Sylvia responds as she shuffles in her bed.
Sounds like she is getting comfortable.
With that final response I get a bit more comfortable myself and go to sleep.
Blink. Blink.
I open my eyes to the sight of burning fields with bodies all around me.
What the—
Before I can even finish that thought a dragon goes over my head. The wind rushes past me as it lands in the distance.
ROARRRRRR!!!!!
I look down to see my sword is at my waist so I’m prepared to fight against a dragon here as well.
There’s no explanation for how I got here or what is happening right now... But I need to kill the dragon in front of me.
~Warning. This dragon is not like the others you have faced.
What do you mean?!
~Dragon is confirmed to be a captain.
A captain? What the hell are you talking about?!?!
Shake. Shake.
Suddenly it feels like someone is shaking me... So I look around but no one else appears to be around.
Just the dragon and all the bodies scattered across the area.
"Kain!" A voice echoes.
I look up towards the sky.
The voice sounds like it is coming from the sky... How odd.
