STOMP. STOMP.
The dragon begins to slowly make its way towards me as its dark blue eyes stare at me.
"Kain!!!" The voice gets even louder.
Everything around me finally begins to disappear as I open my eyes to the sight of Sylvia over me. She has a bit of a concerned look on her face but why is she above me?
Suddenly I understand why she is concerned as I notice my sword up against her neck.
Quickly I move it away and she lets out a sigh of relief.
I didn’t think anything was happening outside of the dream itself but that was very strange... Why did I see a burning field with a bunch of bodies?
There was also some sort of dragon "captain" or whatever. I’ve never heard of such a thing so maybe it was just something my brain made up.
I don’t really have much of an explanation for it otherwise right now.
"I really thought you were about to do something rash," Sylvia says as she hops off of my bed.
"You wouldn’t let that happen to you anyway," I reply with certainty.
"Definitely not but it doesn’t mean I wasn’t concerned about it," Sylvia says while looking back at me.
She stands by the door.
"It was a strange dream," I reply.
"Must’ve felt pretty real for you to have a reaction like that," Sylvia says while crossing her arms.
I stand up from the bed and grab my sword.
"Yeah it definitely did. But we should get going," I reply while changing the topic.
I’d rather move past it for the time being anyway since it doesn’t matter right now. It was just a stupid dream that doesn’t mean anything right now.
If I keep having that dream it’ll be a different story but it was probably just a one time thing.
"Then we won’t waste any time. I’ll lead us out of here without getting any attention drawn to us," Sylvia says as she begins to head out.
I follow her out of the bedroom and out of the place itself. We end up in the alleyway again but I have to wait a moment as she locks up the door.
My eyes quickly dart back and forth to the different directions of the alleyway for any potential signs of people but it is empty.
I can hear people slightly in the distance as they walk along the streets but that’s it.
"Are we good to go?" I ask quietly.
"Yes. Let’s get going," Sylvia answers as she heads down the alleyway.
Eventually we make it back out to the streets where people are wandering about and talking. Same conversations as before... Just different people.
I don’t pay as much attention this time as I continue to follow behind Sylvia. She is taking me a completely different way then when I first got here.
And after a little bit of walking we make it to a road leading out of the town.
"This isn’t a common road that people follow so it’ll work perfectly for us," Sylvia says with confidence.
"Perfect. Time to follow it then," I reply with a calm tone.
We begin following the road out of the town and it doesn’t go through any sort of forests this time around. It really is quite a different path than I’m used to.
An hour of walking passes by as I start to notice the complete change in scenery around us.
It is just open fields with a few old buildings scattered about.
I don’t know if Sylvia has ever really gone this way before but maybe it would be worth asking her about this area. She might know something about it.
~Is assuming just a normal human thing?
I’m sorry that I’d like to ask her at the very least.
"You seem very unfamiliar with a lot of things Kain," Sylvia speaks up.
"I’ve only recently left my village, that’s why. We don’t have a lot of things back home or well... We didn’t," I respond with a bit of sadness slightly hinted in my voice.
"What was the name of your village?" Sylvia asks with curiosity.
"Astien," I answer.
Silence lingers for a few moments.
"It makes sense that you wouldn’t know much about out here or even the town then," Sylvia says while continuing to walk.
I’m glad she didn’t want to go further into the story with the village... I don’t really want to talk about it much right now. Losing it is still a huge scar that I have left on me.
Even the scars along my arms and hands are a permanent reminder of that day.
"Yeah. The Elder didn’t really have a whole lot of new people come through," I reply quietly.
"My village embraced everything early on so we didn’t really have to worry about being lost in the dark," Sylvia says with a casual tone.
"Lost in the dark?" I question.
"The world is always changing Kain. I wouldn’t want to get left behind," Sylvia responds as she stops in front of me.
She looks up towards the sky.
I don’t really blame her for stopping right now since it is a beautiful blue sky that sits above us most days. A reminder that the world isn’t completely done for yet.
"It seems I was being left behind," I say with a serious tone.
If everything would’ve taken longer... I would’ve been even more lost when it came to checking out the rest of the continent.
I also would have been a bit older than I am now as well.
"Not anymore. It won’t take long to catch you up on things," Sylvia says with an optimistic tone.
"I’ve noticed that a lot of the people I met so far have been quite cheerful and positive about everything... How can you all be like that?" I ask with a bit of confusion in my voice.
"Being sad and gloomy all the time just decreases morale so it is best to focus on the good stuff," Sylvia answers without any hesitation.
