I can feel more anger beginning to form within my chest as I wait for her to tell me the plan.
"I’ll handle the stealth attack, just start getting people into a safe spot," Sylvia instructs as she lifts her blade.
Fwoosh!!!
Within an instant she disappears from in front of me and I can just barely notice her in the distance as she approaches the dragon.
That’s my cue to get going before more people die in the process.
I don’t waste any time as I quickly sheath my sword before running towards the sound of the people screaming.
It doesn’t take me long to find them since I found the house that they are trapped inside of.
Kick!!! Kick!!!
I begin to kick the door with as much force as possible while listening for any sign of the dragon attacking again. While I’m doing this I can hear the sounds of people panicking.
Burst!!!
The door finally breaks open as pieces of debris moved out of the way.
Without hesitation I start looking for the people inside and it doesn’t take me very long to find some of them.
"Thank god.... Please get my children out of here..." The women begs as blood drips down her arms.
"I’m getting you all out of here," I reply with a serious tone.
I drag her out of the house before going back inside and grabbing the children from each of the rooms. Luckily they are all in one piece so it doesn’t take me long to do this.
ROARRRRRR!!!!!
The dragon lets out a deafening roar as I turn around to see blood spilling out from one of its wings.
She definitely got the sneak attack off which is a good thing for the time being.
"Are you guys slayers...?" The little girl asks with fear in her voice.
"Yes. We’ll take care of the dragon, don’t worry," I assure her with a forced smile on my face.
I don’t know if she’ll even believe me with a smile like this... But I can’t give a natural one while everything is falling apart. This is the best I can do.
~You should probably continue saving whoever you can before Sylvia needs a hand.
I’m working on it.
Immediately I run for another house where I can hear more screams but something feels off this time.
"Kain watch out!!!" Sylvia shouts.
I turn my head to see flames coming right towards me.
Shit. Shit.
As I go to draw my sword I realize it is too late for me to do anything here.
FLASH!!!!!
A bright white light begins to block the flames as I notice Sylvia is standing in front of me again.
How did she get over here so quick...? Is she really that fast or am I not paying enough attention.
Nothing is really making a lot of sense to me right now but I think it is because of the trauma that I’m reliving. It might be holding me back more than I like to admit.
"You’re so lucky that I haven’t gotten to use much of my abilities yet," Sylvia says while holding her sword up in the air.
I finally notice that it is a barrier around us.
"How are you doing this?" I ask while looking at the barrier.
"This isn’t the time for questions Kain. I need you to help me with the dragon," Sylvia responds with a serious tone.
"Got it. I’ll help with the dragon," I say while looking past the barrier.
Directly underneath the dragon I can see a family trapped inside of another house.
"Great, let’s handle it then," Sylvia replies with some relief in her voice.
"The family underneath the dragon needs to be saved though," I say while pulling out my sword.
"Kain we don’t have time for that," Sylvia responds with a bit of frustration in her voice.
I look back at her.
"I don’t want to watch everyone die all over again!" I shout with anger in my voice.
Crack!! Crack!!!
The barrier begins to break around us as the flames finally start to die down.
She lets out a sigh as she struggles to keep the barrier from breaking.
"I can’t argue with you right now... Please just give me some assistance," Sylvia begs.
I slowly lower myself into the Valtor stance as my gaze shifts to the dragon.
More people are going to die whether I kill the dragon first or not... Right? This is the best decision I can make now.
Sylvia is relying on me to help her with the dragon so I can’t let her down. I’ll help kill it quickly.... Then we can save whoever is left in the village.
Dash!!!!!
In an instant I find myself right underneath the dragon, on top of the rooftop.
One more.
Dash!!!!
I swing my blade upward as it finally connects with the dragon.
Slash!!!!!
Just barely it breaks through the scales and part of the skin as green blood begins to splurt out from the wound.
ROARRRRRR!!!!
It cries out as it crashes into one of the houses.
"Noooo!!! Damnit!!!" I shout with frustration in my voice.
The screams that once came from the house in front of me are completely gone. They were definitely crushed by the dragon as it fell into the house.
~You cannot save everybody Kain.
I... I know. I’d just like to avoid more death, okay?
Is it that hard to ask for such a thing?
The green blood drips off of my new blade and I stare down at the dragon in the distance.
Sylvia’s barrier is no longer around, in fact... I don’t see her anywhere.
ROARRR!!!
The dragon cries out once more as I finally see where Sylvia is; she is on top of the dragon with her blade plunged deep into the side of its neck.
Before I can make it over there, everything goes silent.
Its body is finally limp as she stands on the top still, looking back at me with a calm expression on her face. Not upset or angry in the slightest.
Not with me at least.
I wouldn’t blame her if she was.
The people I originally saved from the house are also dead now. The whole village has gone silent.
