All three of us rush back towards the outpost where dragons have finally landed inside. There are two maybe three dragons that chose to land in here to fight.
A fully red scaled dragon, brown, and silver.
My grip tightens around my sword as I glance at each dragon, trying to get a gauge on at least one to start with.
But before I can even make a move, Aaron is already charging in towards the silver one without any hesitation. His sword already lifting into the air before he swings it down.
I thought for sure that the dragon would just dodge the attack or that maybe it would use a claw..
Slash!!!!!
His giant sword cuts right through its chest and blood begins to spill out almost immediately.
The other two dragons let out roars as the silver ones completely collapsed onto the ground. Completely defeated by one lethal blow from Aaron’s sword.
The difference we have in experience really is vast. I didn’t expect him to hit a lethal blow on the dragon in one attack but that’s five years worth of experience.
He knew exactly how to swing his sword and what direction to bring it down. I also think the dragon underestimated him since it didn’t really appear to fight back.
~It is normal for a dragon to underestimate its prey occasionally as they sometimes judge off of appearance.
But they know this is a slayer outpost... There’s no way they don’t.
~Slayers can be underestimated too Kain.
That is true.
Ba-dum. Ba-dum.
My heart is still racing from the previous fight as pain lingers in my back. The wounds I sustained from the battle are getting to me ever so slowly.
I look towards the red scaled dragon.
Even though I’m in pain and exhausted... I can handle killing a few more dragons.
Dash!!!!
The wind blows past me as I bring my sword down towards the dragon. Its eyes lock with mine almost instantly as it goes to block against my attack.
Break!!!
I slam my feet into the ground and stop myself just before attack and dash back once more.
It will be smarter to do what I did to the captain.
Dash!!!!
Once, twice, three times, and finally one fourth time from the left side.
SLASH!!!
I bring my blade up across its left side, completely cutting up through its scales.
ROARRR!!!!
It lets out a deafening roar as the pain probably begins to overwhelm it. Green blood covers my blade as I finally rip it out from the dragons flesh.
But before it can turn around I drive my blade into its chest and start to twist it to the right.
Tear!!!! Tear!!!!
I can hear its flesh tearing apart until finally my sword rips out from the front of its chest.
~You really have improved the way you fight.
Adapting is how you survive, right?
THUD!!!!
Its body falls onto the ground as blood begins to pile around it.
No reason to take any chances that it might get back up. I’ll just do this for my own benefit here before taking its essence.
PIERCE!!!!!
Without hesitation I drive my blade deep into its throat and watch as its eyes go wide one last time before all the movements disappear.
It lays motionless now as the others rush in towards the last dragon standing.
~I’m afraid the essence from this dragon has disappeared.
Disappeared?
~Some dragons slip away faster than others I’m afraid.
Interesting. I didn’t think they could just disappear on me like that but I guess you learn something new everyday.
With that I pull my sword out and wipe it off before putting it back into the scabbard.
All while the last dragon lets out one last roar before I hear the sounds of the other slayers finishing it off. I still glance over just once to see what it looks like over there.
As expected, it is getting attacked simultaneously by multiple slayers.
I think we definitely pushed them out from this outpost like we intended to. Though, I don’t think they expected someone to kill the captain that was with them.
They all seem kind of unorganized now that the captain has died. He must’ve been good at calling the shots before this.
It makes sense when I think back to the forest ambush.
THUD!!!
The last dragon finally hits the ground as they finish it off.
Tap. Tap.
I turn my head to see Sylvia standing right next to me now.
"It looks like we finally got them pushed out from the outpost," Sylvia says with relief in her voice.
"Definitely appears to be the case," I reply while crossing my arms.
Pain lingers in my back as I look at everything around us.
"Are you going to be okay?" Sylvia asks with concern in her voice.
"Of course," I respond without hesitation.
She glances at my back.
"We should probably patch you up at the very least," Sylvia says as she continues to examine me.
"If you want to, go ahead," I reply calmly.
Right after I said that I can feel her beginning to press something against my back. It feels as if she is cleaning the wounds before bandaging them.
"I think this should do just fine for the time being," Sylvia says with confidence.
"Thank you," I reply with a genuine tone.
She walks past me and turns back around.
"No need to thank me. Just looking out for you like a good companion should," Sylvia says with a smile on her face.
"Right," I reply quietly.
Footsteps begin to approach and I slightly turn my head to look past her. It is the other slayers from this outpost that are approaching us.
They all look pretty worn out from the battle but at least they survived.
Aaron is also alongside them which will make this a bit less awkward. He is pretty good at breaking the ice.
"This is Kain!" Aaron shouts as they finally reach us.
