Aaron helps get a few more things set-up for the slayers at the outpost before finally preparing for his departure.

Sylvia and I both have also been helping out with any other things that they may need our help with. It hasn’t been anything difficult or hard to figure out.

Mostly making the place look like an actual outpost again, even though we cleaned up all the bodies... It still felt off.

I think it’ll always feel that way to me since the battle happened here. It’ll probably be something that plagues me for a good while.

"Kain," Aaron calls out my name.

I turn around to see him ready to go.

"Leaving now?" I question.

"Yep. I just wanted to make sure I gave a proper goodbye to you," Aaron responds with a smile.

"Understandable. It was an honor to fight alongside you," I say with a genuine tone.

He pats my head.

"Just make sure you watch out for Sylvia," He replies with a cheerful tone.

"Of course," I say without hesitation.

I would’ve done that regardless since that is the right thing to do when traveling with someone. Otherwise I’d be a terrible companion to have on these trips.

"Cya later Kid," Aaron replies as he turns around.

I watch as he walks off into the distance, getting farther and farther until he finally disappears from sight.

I’m sure that won’t be the last time that I see Aaron since we are all slayers at the end of the day. Our war against the dragons is also far from being over yet.

It’ll be quite the time.

~At least you are starting to make more allies.

That is true. I just don’t know what to do with any of this right now since I’m learning.

Learning what it is like to have people who rely on you for things, who want to help fight the same battle as you. It’ll take a lot of getting used to still.

I’m also still struggling with the people I couldn’t save...

~That is why you have to keep pushing forward. Remember those who died during the war and use it as fuel Kain.

Right... Fuel to bring the fight to them.

That is easy enough for me to do. I’ll focus on the battles to come and make sure that those lives weren’t lost in vain.

Footsteps approach once again but this time I turn around to see Sylvia is back.

"So what do you want to do Kain?" Sylvia asks with a bit of curiosity.

"Shouldn’t we start preparing to leave as well?" I respond while looking back at everything.

"If you think it is best, then we’ll continue," Sylvia says with a casual tone.

I don’t think there is any reason for us to stay behind here when everything is all cleaned up and dealt with. There is plenty of time for them to handle themselves as well.

The outpost will live to fight another day.

Scratch. Scratch.

After scratching my head I walk towards one of the gates.

"Continuing would be smart since we have a lot of dragons to kill still," I reply with a serious tone.

"Do you only think about dragons?" Sylvia asks with a bit of curiosity.

I tilt my head slightly as I glance back at her.

"Not entirely but they are the main focus most days," I answer.

A small smirk forms on her face.

"Hmm. Follow me," Sylvia says while gesturing for me to come along.

I move away from the gate and follow her over to a small tent away from everyone.

"What are we doing here?" I ask with a bit of confusion in my voice.

"Don’t you ever get worn out and need a bit of a break?" She responds with her own question.

I am a bit exhausted after everything that’s happened lately but I thought we’d take a break after leaving here. At least that is what my original thought was before this.

"Occasionally," I say with a quiet tone in my voice.

"That reminds me, how old are you Kain?" Sylvia asks out of nowhere.

That’s quite a shift in conversation... But today is the 7th of Cyvel. That means I am 18 as of yesterday. I didn’t think about how fast the days have been going lately since I started killing dragons.

My birthday wasn’t far to begin with...

The only reason I even know today is the 7th is because I remember seeing one of the specials on the way out of the town.

"I’m 18 now," I answer.

"Younger than me. I’m 20," Sylvia says before letting out a small chuckle.

She drags me into the tent.

"What are we doing Sylvia?" I question.

She pushes me over onto the bed roll.

"So I haven’t really met anyone that I could trust like this... But I think it could be nice to have some peace..." Sylvia responds as she climbs onto the bed roll.

I can feel my heart beginning to flutter as she gets closer and closer to me.

Her hand runs along my arm until it reaches my chest.

"I... I’m definitely a bit lost here," I say with a nervous tone revealing itself in my voice.

"Kain I just want company from you for a bit," Sylvia replies while pulling my down next to her.

She lays her head on my chest.

I don’t know much about anything... Especially not when it comes to relationships or romance in general. My parents didn’t really talk about how they met or how things came to be.

The girls in the village also didn’t really bother with me much because I was busy with various things all the time.

"Don’t overthink it Kain. We’re just laying together for a bit," Sylvia speaks with a bit of a teasing tone.

"It is just new to me..." I reply nervously.

It is a bit harder for me to keep a calm tone in this situation.
