Leon turns around and walks back over to us.
"I won’t always step in for you when we encounter each other, but they were annoying so I did," Leon explains.
"It would’ve been fine regardless of if you did or not," I say with a calm tone.
Leon puts his hands back into his pockets.
"Fair enough man. Well, good luck to you both," He replies before starting to walk away.
"Good luck to you too," I say quietly.
Leon and the girls with him finally part ways from us but something still feels off about the whole situation. Instinctively I look back towards the entrance of the guild hall.
None of them are even looking our direction, so why do I feel concerned about it?
"Kain?" Sylvia calls out.
I turn my head to the sound of Sylvia’s voice.
"Yes?" I question.
"I think we should get going since Driften could be attacked at any moment," Sylvia responds.
"You’re right. I’m ready," I say while beginning to walk.
She walks along with me as we make our way out of the kingdom. Figuring out the direction of Driften is the first thing we have to do.
I look around for any other signs that could point to a different exit in the kingdom. Right as I notice a sign, Sylvia starts to drag me along.
"I found the right way to go," Sylvia says with confidence.
"Great," I reply.
Aerithel has been quite the chaotic stop so far and I wonder how Driften is going to be. These attacks are going to say a lot about what I can handle since it isn’t related to dragons...
Humans attacking other humans. I don’t look forward to handling it but if it helps save some lives... That is what matters.
Sylvia continues to pull me along until we finally reach a different gate for us to leave through. The guards don’t hesitate to open it since we are leaving.
After a minute or two they let us through.
Step. Step. Step.
Back into the desert itself. The road ahead of us is quite clear at least, I can actually see where it leads to.
"Driften is ahead of us. It’ll just be a little bit of a walk," Sylvia speaks up.
"How much is a little bit?" I ask curiously.
"Almost an hour maybe," Sylvia answers with a bit of uncertainty in her voice.
"You don’t sound very certain about that," I tease as we walk.
She chuckles for a moment.
"I just went off of a map by the gate. It is the best guess I got," Sylvia replies with a casual tone.
"Better than any guess I would’ve made. I don’t know much about reading maps," I joke.
It isn’t entirely a joke... I don’t know about maps but it works.
"There really is a lot to show you, haha," Sylvia says before letting out another laugh.
After that the hour goes by...
We mostly talked about what happened back there in Aerithel with Leon. Both of us don’t really know what to make or him since he doesn’t match the common image of a reaper.
At least according to Sylvia that is the case.
But the town of Driften is finally ahead of us. Mostly wooden buildings lie ahead with a bunch of different styles for the rooftops.
Some made out of a strange green stone while others appear to be the standard grey cobblestone. Actually, the wood itself looks different for a lot of the buildings too.
I’m surprised that the people who built Driften decided to build everything with wood. I feel like it sticks out of place in a desert like this.
Brick, stone, or just any sort of rock might be better for this environment.
I can’t really judge them though... Our village didn’t really have a crazy variety for the buildings or houses. It was a cozy place.
"I’d be ready for people to look at us like Aerithel did," Sylvia warns.
"You think we’ll be seen as a threat?" I ask with a serious tone.
"Yes," Sylvia answers almost instantly.
After constant attacks I wouldn’t trust anyone who comes into the town either. That might be the main reason no one is taking the quest in the first place.
They don’t want to take the risk that someone in the town might actually attack them as well.
It means extra caution when you are just trying to help with the situation... This might be a pain in the ass. I don’t usually think like this but these people are scared.
I finally enter the town behind Sylvia, people immediately glare at us from their windows. Some come out from the stores, but they don’t really move much.
That’s when I hear the sound of these boots hitting the ground as they approach.
Turn.
I look to see a group of people approaching us.
They aren’t from inside of the town. I think these might be the bandits that were mentioned in the quest. That could be why the people are looking at us like they are.
I’m willing to bet that it is them assuming we are with the bandits.
"It seems like we’ll be handling the problem sooner rather than later," I speak up while drawing my sword.
"They probably watched us enter the town from a distance," Sylvia says.
She draws her sword too. Now we both watch as these bandits slowly approach us, each one wearing some heavy iron armor with patches of chain mail slipping through.
They wear bandanas to cover their faces, except for two or three of them who wear an actual helmet.
I watch as they continue to approach... Until I notice someone stepping ahead of the group. He is wearing some heavy black armor with a black knight helmet to block his face completely.
Just some red symbols painted across his armor and a fairly big sword on his back.
Is he the leader of them?
