Slayer: I Kill All Dragons For Power
Chapter 76: The Attacks In Driften [1]The bandits behind him stop after he gets a bit ahead of them.
"Two slayers here to fight bandits? That feels kind of wrong," He speaks up with a muffled voice.
I can understand him but the helmet definitely muffles his voice quite well. He also immediately can tell we are slayers which poses a problem.
"If you know what we are that should worry you!" Sylvia shouts with a serious tone in her voice.
The man doesn’t respond immediately.
Instead he slowly reaches behind himself and grips the handle of the massive sword resting against his back.
Something about the way he moves feels strange, there isn’t any hesitation.
He doesn’t seem nervous about fighting two slayers either.
Most people who encounter a slayer would either respect them or understand that we are quite strong. This guy doesn’t seem to care for either.
~I’d recommend being cautious.
Already planned on it.
The other bandits begin spreading themselves out instead of remaining directly behind him.
They’re surrounding us? I should have expected that.
My eyes quickly move between each one.
There are at least nine of them from what I can count right now. Sylvia and I could probably handle ordinary bandits without much trouble...
This might be quite a challenge since I don’t really know what to expect when it comes to humans. Even with me being one... I haven’t fought against other humans.
I don’t know what kind of strength they possess or what they are capable of doing.
"Doesn’t worry me," The armored man finally responds.
SHING!
His giant sword slides free from his back and he brings it down beside himself.
THUD!
The tip hits the ground hard enough to kick up some sand.
Not a normal sword in the slightest... It looks a lot like a slayer’s weapon.
"Who are you?" Sylvia questions.
"No one important," He answers without hesitation.
Definitely not an answer but we can’t expect the enemy to give us a proper response.
Sylvia glances towards me.
I don’t need her to say anything since we’re both thinking the exact same thing.
There’s something wrong with this guy.
"Take care of the girl," The armored man orders.
Immediately the other bandits begin moving.
So he wants me? I guess I’ll take care of the potential slayer before me. There’s no telling how this is going to go.
Three of the bandits rush towards Sylvia while the rest spread out around the street.
People inside the nearby buildings immediately close their doors and windows.
They’ve probably been through this enough times to know what happens next.
These people can’t even walk around their own town without worrying about bandits attacking them.
Step.
I move forward as the armored man does the same.
"You’re pretty young," He says.
I don’t respond since there’s no reason to.
His sword shifts slightly to his right.
My hands tighten around my own sword.
He probably wants me to attack first... Exactly why I won’t do it. This guy is definitely quite dangerous.
~His stance is strange.
You noticed it too?
~Yes.
That isn’t helpful but at least I’m not imagining things.
CLANG!!!
A loud clash comes from behind me as Sylvia blocks one of the bandits.
I don’t turn around.
She can handle herself. Sylvia is a strong slayer who is just dealing with some bandits.
I need to focus on the person standing in front of me.
"You don’t talk much," The armored man says.
Still nothing.
He lets out a quiet laugh from underneath the helmet.
Then he moves.
DASH! Fast!
His giant sword sweeps towards my side.
CLANG!!!!
I bring my sword down against it.
The impact immediately sends pain through both of my arms.
What the hell?!
His weapon doesn’t stop.
My boots slide across the sand as the force pushes me several feet to the side.
He is a lot stronger than I initially anticipated... But that just means I need to try harder. Learning on the go is my biggest strength.
I break away from the clash before his sword can push me any further.
The armored man doesn’t chase.
He just stands there.
Watching.
He must be testing me?
I shift my footing and lower my sword slightly.
~The Valtor Stance?
I don’t know enough about him to use the stance yet. Dragons wouldn’t expect it because of the way it works but a slayer can probably read it a lot more easily.
So using everything immediately could be deadly for me.
The armored man tilts his head.
"Interesting," He says.
He rushes forward again.
SWOOSH!!!!
His sword comes down from above.
I step sideways.
BOOM!!!!
The blade slams into the road where I was standing.
Sand and pieces of stone fly through the air.
I immediately swing towards the opening near his side.
CLANG!!!
He pulls the sword from the ground much faster than I expected and blocks.
Our blades scrape against one another.
He turns his sword.
Wait—
My sword is suddenly forced away from his body.
WHAM!!!!
His shoulder slams directly into my chest and I stumble backwards.
That wasn’t even an attack with his sword. He really is quite experienced...
I barely recover before I see his leg move so I shift to the side.
WHIFF!!
His boot passes right beside me.
If that connected I would’ve been on the ground. I can’t let him do that to me or it is definitely over.
Humans fight completely different than what I’d expect from a dragon. I knew it was going to be the case but this is a huge difference.
A dragon would’ve tried tearing me apart with claws or biting my head off. Only the captain I fought against was using actual martial arts and a sword.
But this guy is using everything.
His sword, body, and even my balance.
I can’t do anything obvious or he’ll definitely notice with the way he’s watching my movements.
CLANG! CLANG!
More fighting continues behind me.
Sylvia doesn’t sound like she’s struggling.
Hopefully she won’t need me whatsoever since this is going to take me a good while... And a hell of a lot of luck.
The armored man takes another step towards me.
"Someone taught you how to stand like that," He speaks up.
He noticed my footing?
"Who trained you?" He asks.
I don’t answer.
He raises his sword again.
