Upon reaching the fort again, I am brought to the medical tents. Sylvia follows alongside them and it doesn’t take them very long to patch me up.
I watch as the healers leave the tent.
It is nice that they didn’t put me in a crowded tent, but this is definitely new to me. My recovery thing usually feels like it can handle the wounds.
Even if it is a bit slow compared to what they did in here.
Magic really is incredible.

"Onyx didn’t seem too upset about this."
I look over towards Sylvia.
"Why would he be upset?" I question with a bit of curiosity.
"It was a pretty risky thing you did back there."
"I just attacked the dragon like we were already doing."
She looks down at her hands for a moment.
"I’m talking about how you took the attack from the tail like you did."
Honestly I forgot about that for a second. It kept Laz from getting hurt in the process so I figured that was a smart move.
Though, I could’ve found a way to get us both out of the way in time. Again, this is all new to me.
Working with a bunch of slayers is completely different from when it was just Sylvia and I. I just can’t wrap my head around it all yet... Especially when it has only been a few days.
"Kain?"
"Sorry, I was just thinking about it. I probably could have gone about it better."
"It’s okay. This is all new."
I’m happy she understands.
A couple of hours pass by as everyone gets settled back into the fort. Sylvia left to go get some food for us since I still have to stay here for a bit longer.
The curtain to enter the tent moves and I see Laz come in.
"Hey man."
"What’s up Laz?" I question with curiosity.
"I just wanted to thank you. You didn’t have to take that attack for me, but you did."
"It just comes with the job."
"No man, that doesn’t. You aren’t required to take a hit for another person."
I let out a small laugh.
"It really is fine. I’m glad we won the fight."
"Yeah it is definitely good. Onyx is already prepping for the next one."
He definitely moves pretty fast when it comes to the dragons... Which is a good thing. I could probably learn a thing or two from him.
Learning how to properly ambush a dragon would be helpful for the future. I’d be able to take out stronger dragons if I do it all properly.
"When are we going?" I ask curiously.
"That hasn’t been decided yet."
"Hmm. I guess it does take some time to figure out."
"That and we don’t want to take any big risks right now."
Big risks? I don’t really know what he’s talking about right now.
"Big risks?"
"Another ambush so soon after that one will draw more attention than we can handle right now," Laz explains.
"Makes sense. So how long would we wait?" I ask with a serious tone.
"Usually a couple days, maybe a week."
Spreading out the attacks makes a lot of sense, considering what they are capable of.
Honestly I’m surprised they haven’t attacked the fort, unless they did in the past. I didn’t really think about asking anyone.
This fort definitely has been attacked before though. I’ve seen the damage done to the walls outside, but it isn’t anything recent from what I could see.
~Why would you care about any attacks on the fort right now?
Because it is strange that they haven’t just attacked the fort again. We are in a pretty open spot with a lot of potential spots for them to attack from.
"Onyx will probably come in here shortly to check on you." He continues.
"I was surprised he didn’t come in here sooner."
"Being a captain is no joke."
"I can believe it."
Laz turns around.
"Maybe one day you’ll be a captain Kain. Seriously, thank you. I’ll come talk with you more later."
He quickly exits the tent after that and I’m left here by myself for a little while.
I don’t mind sitting around by myself, but I did get used to having Sylvia around. She really knows how to bring out the best in me which I appreciate.
It has helped me get through a lot of terrible thoughts lately.
Shit. I also didn’t get to find Niko before everything happened.
The one person I needed to talk to about the black flames... I guess it’ll have to wait for another time. The visions are something I need to get a grasp on as well.
A way to suppress them is probably the smartest decision I can make.
I can’t be losing focus in battles again.
~A way to suppress the foresight? I didn’t think you’d need such a solution.
It can’t keep happening, especially not when people can die because of me.
~I don’t believe there is a solution at the moment.
Then why even speak on the matter? I can just linger with my own thoughts at that point.
Footsteps approach once again, this time they definitely sound heavier. It isn’t Sylvia yet.
The curtain pulls to the side as Onyx steps into the tent this time. He doesn’t look upset or concerned in the slightest.
"That was a really brave thing you did back there Kain," Onyx says with a genuine tone.
"You aren’t mad or anything about it?" I question.
"No. I don’t think it is smart to get hurt on the battlefield, but I do believe in protecting your comrades when necessary."
"Thank you."
"No need to thank me, just don’t get hurt so easily in the future kid."
"I definitely don’t intend to."
