Chapter 1306: Chapter 1285: Ghostly Youth
Who is this character? Xiao Yue couldn’t help but gasp. He had never seen or heard of such a person before. If he were famous in the underworld, this appearance would definitely have been mentioned, and he wouldn’t be unaware of it.
Xiao Lin had similar suspicions. If this person had never shown up in the underworld, then he might very well be one of them.
The child bared his teeth with a fierce light in his eyes, flicking up the corpse beside him with his toe and kicking it towards Xiao Lin, who frowned. At the same time, the child hid behind the corpse and moved to approach Xiao Lin.
The child’s claw-like hand brushed past Xiao Lin’s forehead, and a wave of pain surged up instantly, prompting Xiao Lin to let out a fierce roar. He had been careless and realized he couldn’t afford to show any mercy, even to a child. With this thought, he surged with energy, leaping up from the ground and stabbing towards the child’s hand claw.
Do not underestimate this child. Though his hands still had a bit of baby fat and appeared fleshy, the strength in his fingers is not inferior to any adult.
The fingertip was sharp, and with a whistling wind, it confronted Xiao Lin’s attack head-on, displaying no fear.
A raw force forced Xiao Lin to retreat a few steps, the countless claw strikes creating a net that trapped Xiao Lin beneath. From the side, Xiao Yue couldn’t see Xiao Lin’s figure, only watching the child flitting up and down, left and right, rapidly darting around, growing faster and more urgent.
Just as Xiao Yue hesitated on whether to intervene, the child’s figure suddenly stopped and spun without warning, pressing his claw forcefully towards Xiao Lin’s leg as he turned ghost-like to Xiao Lin’s back, his right claw following swiftly, aiming for Xiao Lin’s spine.
Xiao Lin was startled, having never seen such an eerie body technique. His body was blasted away by the attack from behind. Mid-air, he managed to stab into a tree trunk with a spike to steady himself, preventing a disastrous fall, but his anger was stoked. At such a tender age, the child was already so vicious. If not eliminated today, it would surely become a future threat.
The child’s eyes were fixed intently on Xiao Lin, who hung in mid-air on the tree. His paused posture also aroused Xiao Yue’s curiosity to look upwards, an invisible sense of pressure infiltrating from above, causing unease in the hearts of those present. Even from afar, Xiao Yue couldn’t help but shiver at this oppressive weight.
The child remained still, sensing the undeniable aura emanating from Xiao Lin. With a growl, his roar sounded eerie in the night, especially as it hadn’t fully transformed.
Xiao Lin gripped the spike with both hands, pushing his feet against the tree trunk. The spike stretched forward as he channeled all his body’s strength into his upper body, spinning towards the stationary child.
The speed was so fast that Xiao Yue could hardly believe his eyes. The child repeatedly retreated, not daring to recklessly confront him. Shifting three steps to the left, he clawed towards Xiao Lin’s legs with both hands.
Xiao Lin shouted abruptly, flipping his body, thrusting his waist upward, propelling his still airborne form back, his stance changed mid-air, redirecting the spike towards the child’s right side.
Sizzle! The spike scraped the child’s right arm and pierced into his shoulder pit, a pillar of blood spurting out as the spike was drawn back, and the child roared in pain, his eyes wide in disbelief. Despite the injury, his attacking claws did not stop, reaching towards Xiao Lin’s ankle.
"Watch out!" Xiao Yue couldn’t help but shout in alarm.
The child suddenly altered his attack trajectory, swiping a palm towards the source of the cry. Xiao Yue raised his arms to block, forced back a step by the palm’s force, as Xiao Lin, seeing this, leaped up.
Focusing all his strength in his left arm, channeling the power into the spike, a ringing sound ensued. This change startled Xiao Lin momentarily, but didn’t affect the direction of his attack.
Feeling the chill behind him, the child continued to strike towards Xiao Yue’s hiding place, making several rapid strikes, before retracting and leaping forward towards Xiao Lin. Just as the spike was about to arrive, he audaciously clutched at it with his right claw, attempting to grab the bare blade with his empty hand, a technique Xiao Lin rarely used unless his life was at stake.
The child seemed unaware of what fear was, turning the spike continuously in his hand, visibly spitting blood from the wound, yet he appeared impervious to pain, clawing the spike fiercely with his right hand.
In this stalemate, Xiao Lin couldn’t pull the spike from the child’s grip, having never encountered an opponent like this, finding it somewhat amusing. Releasing one hand from the spike, he struck the child’s abdomen with his left palm.
Deprived of a foothold, the child somersaulted downwards but unpredictably rebounded off the ground, attacking Xiao Lin with legs that seemed propelled by motors, each kick landing with a dull thud on Xiao Lin’s blocking arms.
The spike became a weapon in the child’s hands once again, as he roared and aimed it at Xiao Lin’s head.
Xiao Lin growled deeply, after blocking the final strike, he swung his right leg outward in an arc, kicking towards the child’s lower body with the force of his palm wind, dodging the spike’s attack with a tilt of his head, reaching with his left hand to entangle the spikes, causing a metallic grinding noise.
Grasp tightening, the child instantly felt as though his spike was magnetically pulled, the pushing force of the intertwined spikes dragging him toward Xiao Lin.
Crack!
The sound of bones being crushed resonated in Xiao Yue’s ears. The child could have dodged Xiao Lin’s kick, but his off-balance posture caused him to lose a second’s balance, directly struck by Xiao Lin’s hard leg, followed by a direct punch to the chest.
The body that had already hit the ground bounced up again and flew out, crashing into a tree and sliding to the ground. Mouthfuls of foul blood spurted from his mouth.
"I’ll leave the rest to you!" Xiao Lin saw no need to pursue further. This person’s identity could be handled by Murong Lengyue. He had already made up his mind; they were the same group as those at ’Wagangai’. Whether it was Quan Mingyuan’s doing or Shao Qinyi’s, it didn’t matter.
"They came for you." Xiao Yue glanced at the person collapsed under the tree.
"Mm! Got a smoke?" He patted his pocket to find he was out of cigarettes and gave Xiao Yue a glance, catching the cigarette tossed to him with one hand and lighting it. "This is the Murong Family. I’m aware of his identity. How you handle it is your business. Just let your Family Head know I’m leaving now."
Amidst his words, there were still a few sporadic gunshots, but they could no longer threaten or harm the Murong Family residence.
"Ah, just send the car back to Sin City later!" As if remembering something, Xiao Lin flipped over the wall and shouted to Xiao Yue before disappearing over the wall.
Descending along the mountain, entering the streets, a horn sounded. Xiao Lin exhaled smoke, glanced at the car, and approached. "Meisai, what are you doing here?"
"I was waiting for you."
Xiao Lin glanced at the road he’d come from and got into the car. "Waiting must mean it’s not a small matter. It’s been so long since you last sought me out, I’m a bit surprised."
"These are photos of the bodies. Can you determine the cause of death?"
Right off the bat, a pile of body photos was spread before Xiao Lin. Meisai gave him no buffer time or opportunity to refuse.
"Didn’t you hear the gunshots earlier?" Taking the photos, Xiao Lin examined them carefully. The body was of a girl, naked. Her clothes were likely removed later to make the photos more impactful.
"I heard them, but there were orders from above. Since we didn’t receive a notice, we’re handling it as if we didn’t hear anything." Meisai leaned against the car door while Xiao Lin scrutinized the photos closely, occasionally holding them up to the car lights for comparison. "Can you tell the cause of death?"
"Your forensic team concluded it’s death without poison or wounds, right?"
The photos were taken so clearly for their visual impact that even the pores on the skin were easily visible. Indeed, there wasn’t a single wound or puncture on the body. Aside from the livor mortis, the skin didn’t show signs of discoloration, unlike poisoning. The pupils indicated a state of natural death. No traces of blood from the orifices suggested intact internal organs. This cause of death was indeed hard to guess.
"I want to see the body." The fact that Meisai sought him out suggested it was related to him.
The car quickly started and headed for the police station. Along the way, Xiao Lin roughly understood the situation. He had apprehended Shao Weihua after the fire; Meisai was unaware, only noting Shao Weihua hadn’t been seen since the fire. However, Wang Zhanting had visited the police station to identify a body and demanded a speedy resolution to the fire-related case. Shao Weihua’s whereabouts didn’t seem to concern him much, a point worth investigating.
Xiao Lin’s reminder was also where Meisai’s suspicions lay. "Hong said she knew this girl, lived on Caesar Street, a habitual thief. I suspect someone hired her as an eyewitness and then killed her to shut her up."
Xiao Lin chuckled. "The Chief hasn’t suspected that I did it?"
"Instinct! You wouldn’t stoop to such things."
Xiao Lin laughed out loud, unsure if it was self-mockery or something else, and Meisai found his laughter eerie. "Has Hong’s livor mortis not faded yet?"
Xiao Lin changed the topic; he’d only know what was going on upon seeing the body. Indeed, it was suspicious, and the scent of conspiracy might be keener to the Chief’s nose than his own.
"Mu Rongyun seems to have disappeared in this city, and recently a body was found in a residential house. Based on the attire, it’s the same group from ’Wagangai’."
"Ah!" Xiao Lin knew whom the Chief was referring to. "How is the Chief aware of ’Wagangai’? There’s not a whisper or news, and it’s definitely not a typical shooting case!"
"The higher-ups are directly handling it; the case hasn’t reached our police station. So, Young Master Xiao, the people you’ve offended this time might be beyond my help."
"Yes, I know." (To be continued. If you like this work, feel free to vote and recommend tickets on qidian.com. Your support is my greatest motivation. Mobile users, please visit m.qidian.com to read.)
