SSS Awakening: All My Clones Have Divine Bloodlines!
Chapter 165: Guardians of Order"Seems like you still underestimate me. Do I need to remind you what my concept is?" Seraphine replied.
"You didn’t actually think you could kill me with that cheap trick, did you?"
At those words the plant seemed to react violently, the tremors in the ground growing stronger, and with them the tone of the avatar’s voice.
"Your concept of origin? You’re just a creature of an inferior world. It’s not possible for you mortals to resist the power of us guardians of order. You’ve only learned a fraction of your concept, there’s no way for you to resist us. Something must have gone wrong. He can’t have lost to you." The voice was growing more frantic, as if trying to deny the reality in front of it.
Hearing this exchange, Evan couldn’t help but wonder exactly what they were talking about.
’Who is he? Another Abyss god?’ Evan thought.
At that moment he remembered a scene, precisely, he remembered Seraphine’s state when he’d met her in that strange dream beneath the ruins of BranLeaf. The Tree of Life had been cut down back then, everything in ruins, strange beings raging in the distance over what looked like the Forsaken Lands. And her, she had appeared to him then, her state poor, but what drew the most attention was that she’d shown clear signs of void corruption, signs the current her didn’t have.
Was that what this avatar was talking about?
Evan had his questions, but this wasn’t the time to ask them. Right now he had to get rid of this avatar and move forward. He’d have all the time in the world to talk with her afterward.
Seraphine, hearing the avatar’s words, made a smirk, and said with what looked like a provocative smile.
"Oh, him? He’s been eliminated. Died recently, actually," she said, in a voice that sounded almost sympathetic, as if offering condolences, but the mockery behind it was obvious even to Evan.
’Damn, she really doesn’t hold back,’ Evan thought, feeling a bit of sympathy for the avatar in front of him, which reacted violently to those words.
"Killed? impossible! We cannot be killed. It simply goes against our nature. I don’t know what you’ve done, let alone how you’re still alive, but you won’t stay that way for long," said the being, finally seeming to calm down slightly.
"Oh? And why do you think you can kill me now when you couldn’t do it even when you were at your strongest?" Seraphine asked, a bit curious.
"Hahaha, don’t worry, you’ll find out soon enough," the plant said without continuing, and Evan understood this meant the small conversation was about to end.
"And you, I don’t know why you turned against us, but it doesn’t matter. We’ll take care of you too," the voice said, threatening and dark.
Evan wanted to point out that he’d never been on their side to begin with, that it clearly had misunderstood something, but he felt there was no point in doing it.
He understood that his ability to use void energy had probably confused the avatar, but it didn’t matter, not when he had already decided to eliminate it.
The entire plant suddenly began to shudder, a sign it had finally decided to act.
The flower at the tip of the stem began to tremble, then opened further, its petals splitting apart beyond any natural logic, revealing something far worse than a simple bud. Toothed mouths sprouted across the entire body of the plant, dozens of them, some tiny, others wide enough to swallow a man whole.
Eyes opened everywhere, on the stem, on the petals, even on the roots visible at the base, some shut and bleeding, others wide open and glassy, rolling in their sockets as if searching for something to fix on.
The fruits hanging along the vines began to warp, their smooth surfaces twisting into something like human faces, expressions of pure terror frozen on their plant-skin, some mouths opening in silent screams, others letting out a sharp, anguished sound, as if something inside those fruits were truly suffering.
The air around Evan grew denser, more oppressive, as if it had turned heavy.
He felt something trying to worm its way inside him, a cold, faint touch at the edges of his mind, a corruption so subtle that if he weren’t used to sensing void energy, he might not have noticed it at all.
[Ding! The Avatar has activated its Domain: Abyssal Domain]
[The Domain corrupts all mana-based living beings within it, weakening their abilities while strengthening those based on void energy.]
Evan suppressed a smirk.
’Hm, activated its domain right away, seems like it isn’t planning to hold back,’ he thought, feeling the corrupted energy flow through the air around him like an invisible river, seeking every crack, every weak point in his mind and body through which to seep in.
Too bad Evan had strong affinity with void energy, so it didn’t work on him.
[Ding! You are now under the influence of an enemy domain]
[Ding! Due to your high affinity with void energy, you are not subject to the debuffs]
[Ding! Your void-based attacks are boosted by 10% within the domain’s area]
’Just as I thought.’
The system told him the domain was ruin for every living being that wasn’t, in essence, a Hollow, but though he wasn’t one, he carried void energy, a fairly high affinity, and even some control over it. The domain wouldn’t affect him, and given what the system had just told him, it was strengthening him instead.
The avatar, now fully awake, made the entire clearing shake with a growl that came from no mouth in particular and from all of them at once.
The eyes across its entire surface moved in unison and fixed on him.
Seraphine stepped aside, without saying anything else. This was Evan’s fight and she knew it, she hadn’t interfered in his battles before because she knew he could handle them, and she wouldn’t interfere now.
She wanted to see how strong he’d become.
