Ava’s lips pressed into a thin line, and her eyes trembled. Alex immediately understood what that meant, and his heart tightened with worry, but he kept his expression calm because he did not want to make his sister even more afraid.
"Don’t worry. They’ll be okay. I’ll make sure of it," he said gently.
Ava’s expression became slightly better after hearing those words. Alex could not guarantee that his parents were safe, but he intended to keep his promise regardless of what stood between him and them.
After talking for a little longer, Alex decided it was time to start moving. He had to look for his parents, and return to Hell Difficulty. As for his body, his bones were not broken, but they were still brittle, while his organs and muscles had been healed but remained weakened from the injuries he had suffered.
He carefully began circulating mana through his body and used it to reinforce himself before trying to sit. However, before he could raise himself properly, Ava immediately reached out and stopped him.
"The principal said you’ll be healed completely in a few hours, so please wait until then. I know you want to go look for Mom and Dad, and I’ll also come with you, but please wait until you’re healed," Ava said, her eyes filled with worry.
Alex stared at her face for a few moments. He did not refuse her, because he understood that she was worried about him, so he simply patted her hand where it rested on his arm and gave her a small nod. "Okay."
Ava looked relieved by his answer, and Alex leaned back against the slightly raised bed. He had no intention of resting, because there was no time for it, but he also did not want to make his sister worry more than she already was. So, he would get healed quickly then move.
Five hours had passed since he arrived on Earth, and he had already promised his team back in Hell Difficulty that he would return within four hours. He still had not found his parents either, so every additional minute made him feel more pressed for time.
Even so, getting healed first was the sensible choice. If he could level up, his body would recover almost instantly, allowing him to move again without having to wait for the natural healing process to finish.
While Alex was thinking about it, Ava picked up an apple from the stand beside the bed and began peeling it. Alex reached into his inventory and took out his phone, but before he could check anything, loud cheering suddenly came from outside.
"Thank you, Alex!"
"Thank you for protecting everyone!"
"Alex, we’re grateful to you!"
The voices continued, with more people joining in as the cheering grew louder. Alex stared at the phone in his hand before turning toward the window with a confused expression.
He immediately began using Mana Sense, adjusting the spell’s angle to determine where the voices were coming from. He quickly realized that there were hordes of people gathered outside the building, and since he was on the first floor, the voices were coming from the ground level directly below the window.
Ava also looked surprised by the noise, but after seeing the crowd, she smiled. "Someone must have told everyone that you woke up. I think they all wanted to come and thank you."
Alex nodded slowly. He felt somewhat awkward because he had never experienced anything like this before, and he had no idea how he was supposed to respond when so many people were thanking him. So he simply kept a plain expression.
Ava looked at him for a moment before smiling as though she understood what he was thinking. "I’ll deal with it."
She walked toward the window and raised her hand, causing several people below to notice her. The cheering slowly became quieter until the entire crowd finally fell silent.
"Everyone, my brother is happy to hear your words, and he says that he only did what was necessary to protect everyone. He really appreciates all of you coming here, but he is still recovering, and the doctors have told him that he needs to stay somewhere quiet so his body can heal properly," Ava said.
She added, "Please give him some time to recover. He is happy that everyone is safe, and he understands how grateful you are, but he needs to rest for now."
The crowd remained quiet for a moment before several voices answered.
"Okay!"
"We understand!"
"Thank you again, Alex!"
"Please get better soon!"
"I love you, Alex! Please be my boyfriend!"
"We’ll leave now, but thank you for saving us!"
Ava smiled and waved before closing the window. Alex watched her return to the bed and took a slow breath, still feeling slightly awkward about everything that had happened.
He had once again realized that his sister was much better at dealing with people than he was. His parents had often nagged him that he should learn from Ava and become more like her, something that used to annoy him whenever they said it.
Now, remembering those moments only made him miss them.
Alex took another breath and calmed himself before looking at Ava. She had returned to peeling the apple and was sitting beside his bed again.
"Thanks," he said quietly.
"You’re welcome." Ava smiled.
Alex then looked down at his phone and opened his messages. There was still nothing from anyone in Hell Difficulty, which was strange considering they should’ve returned to Earth by now.
He had told his team that if he was late, they should contact him when they returned to Earth. He had exchanged IDs with them. However, there were no messages from them, still Alex did not immediately think something had gone wrong and instead assumed there might be network problems.
He sent a message to every member of his Hell Difficulty team, explaining that he had been delayed by the monsters on Earth and would need a few more hours before returning. He also sent a message to Emma, the idol, through her hidden personal account, the one she had told him only a few people knew about.
Alex noticed Ava occasionally looking at his phone, probably wondering what he was doing. Fortunately, Emma’s account displayed her name and profile picture, but most people would probably assume it was a fake account, so Ava did not ask about it.
