A faint light suddenly flickered before Ethan as a familiar cerulean screen materialized.

[Your recent reward—Soul Agreement—has been used!]

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

[An agreement between two parties has been detected.]

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

[Terms of Agreement:]

■ Ethan Graves must first free the Ironfeather Eagle from its current confinement.

■ In return, the Ironfeather Eagle must assist Ethan Graves in protecting his subordinates from the current threat.

■ After the assistance has been completed, neither party may intentionally harm the other party or their respective subordinates in any way.

■ Once Ethan Graves’ subordinates have been successfully saved, the Ironfeather Eagle shall regain its complete freedom.

[Do you agree?]

For a moment, Ethan simply stared at the screen. Then he noticed something truly strange.

The system’s voice hadn’t merely appeared in his mind; someone else had heard by someone other than him as well.

The Ironfeather Eagle’s enormous eyes shifted slightly as a mysterious voice echoed directly within its mind.

There was no screen before its eyes, nor could it understand where the strange voice had originated from. Yet it could sense a faint authority permeating from its words.

The eagle remained silent for a few moments before Ethan finally answered in a low voice. "I agree."

The moment his words fell, a faint white light emerged from Ethan’s body. It wasn’t particularly bright, nor did it remain for much longer. The light merely wrapped around his body for an instant before disappearing, leaving behind not even the slightest of its trace.

Ethan’s eyes immediately shifted toward the eagle, waiting for its answer.

The enormous creature slowly opened its beak as a low growl escaped its exhausted lungs. "Grrr..."

The sound was weak compared to its previous roar, but it was enough as a faint white light flickered across its enormous body before dissipating completely.

The agreement had been established!

With the Soul Agreement in effect, there was no longer any reason for him to doubt the eagle’s intentions.

More importantly, he could finally rely on its strength.

"Now, please don’t fight this," Ethan said as he quickly approached one of the eagle’s open wounds.

There was no time left for hesitation since the system was continuously informing him of the losses occurring within his colony, and the number had only increased throughout their conversation.

Nearly fifty zombie blood ants had already died. Compared to the total number of his subordinates, that figure wasn’t large. In fact, it wasn’t even worth noticing.

Nevertheless, the deaths were only increasing. Who knew just how many deaths would occur in the colony if he decided not to intervene?

Ethan slowly brought his hand closer to the side of his head. The blood around his ears had yet to completely dry from the eagle’s previous roar. He smeared his green fingers through the crimson liquid before pressing them against the eagle’s exposed flesh.

The moment his fingers touched the wound, the eagle’s eyes widened.

Something eerie suddenly entered its body and spread through its flesh at a frightening speed, invading its blood vessels and consuming everything in its path.

It was the zombie virus.

In essence, the virus was vicious, as it relied upon the host’s own blood to spread throughout the body, multiplying at an astonishing rate while consuming the nutrients contained within the flesh.

Under ordinary circumstances, a powerful creature might have been able to resist such an infection. Some might even possess skills capable of completely eradicating it.

But the zombie virus wasn’t something that could simply be ignored. If insufficient biological matter was available, it would eventually begin consuming the host’s own body. In a sense, it seemed nothing more than a curse.

The Ironfeather Eagle’s body began changing rapidly. Its bright brown feathers gradually lost their former luster, becoming darker with every passing second.

The change spread outward from the wound, as its skin followed soon after, gradually turning the same eerie shade as Ethan’s own body. Its bright yellow legs darkened into a dull brown, while its enormous claws slowly became pitch black.

The deep brown color that had previously filled them faded away, replaced by a cold jade-green glow.

The transformation was frighteningly fast, even more so since the eagle didn’t resist.

It had already agreed to the contract.

And because of that agreement, it trusted Ethan’s actions.

Instead of attempting to fight against the foreign substance invading its body, it lowered its guard and willingly allowed the zombie virus to spread.

Within mere moments, the Ironfeather Eagle had completely transformed into a zombie.

To its surprise, the eagle didn’t feel weaker, but quite the opposite.

Its exhausted body suddenly felt as though an enormous weight had been removed from it. The pain that had accompanied every breath for the past several days gradually disappeared, while its muscles began responding again.

The Nox channels, which had been damaged and suppressed for so long, started to recover.

Most importantly, a tremendous amount of strength began returning to its body.

The eagle slowly raised its head in astonishment, feeling its body properly responding to its commands.

If it were given enough time, it could probably break the chains by itself, but Ethan didn’t have time.

"Now!" Ethan immediately jumped onto the eagle’s enormous body.

His feet landed against its back as he grabbed one of the thick chains wrapped around its body.

"Your body can withstand far more pain now, and you’re capable of regenerating!" He yelled at the top of his lungs, tightening his grip around the metal.

"Don’t wait any longer! Rip the chains out!" Immediately, he poured every bit of his strength into his arms and started pulling the chains.

The veins across his forearms and forehead bulged out of his tightened muscles.

Unfortunately, nothing happened. The chain barely even moved under his strength.

Noticing this, he couldn’t help but frown. ’Too strong.’

Until now, he had only fought against F-rank monsters, an E-rank non-combat-type monster, and a half-formed E-rank monster. Against those opponents, his strength had always been enough.

But the Ironfeather Eagle was different. Even while being heavily injured, it was still a C-rank boss monster.

The chains binding it were clearly designed to restrain something far beyond Ethan’s current level, and to move such chains, he naturally needed more strength.

Immediately, Ethan called out within his mind. ’System, add ten points to Strength!’

The response came almost instantly.

A powerful sensation suddenly surged through Ethan’s body. His muscles tightened even further as an entirely new wave of strength flooded through his limbs.

The metal chain trembled within his grip, and this time, it moved!

Seeing the giant metal chains move, his eyes brightened as he pulled even harder.

"Come out!" A faint voice escaped through his gritted teeth.

The chain slowly began to shift to the side. At the same time, the Ironfeather Eagle pulled its enormous body in the opposite direction.

Its claws dug deeply into the ground as the creature exerted its newly recovered portion of its strength. The anchor embedded within its body began moving—slowly, painfully.

The metal scraped against its bones as Ethan and the eagle continued pulling from opposite directions.

The sound that accompanied the process was unpleasant, yet neither of them stopped.

The anchor had been driven deeply into the eagle’s wings, and because of that, ripping it out wasn’t as simple as breaking the chain itself.

The metal scraped against its bones before gradually tearing through the surrounding flesh, but the eagle didn’t cry out. Instead, it simply continued pulling.

Its jade-green eyes remained fixed ahead as its muscles strained. And eventually, the anchor broke free with a loud snap.

*CRACK!*

The enormous piece of metal flew backward before crashing into the ground. Ethan immediately moved toward the next chain and repeated the process one after another.

Some struck the ground with enormous force, cracking the metallic platform beneath them, while others dug deeply into the surrounding soil.

The eagle’s bones had already begun turning dark beneath the effects of the zombie virus, while the flesh surrounding its wounds gradually decayed into a deep green color.

Considering how long it had starved and struggled, such deterioration was inevitable. On the other hand, the zombie virus also brought another strange advantage.

The moment the eagle’s flesh began decaying, the chains embedded within its muscles became much easier to remove.

It was almost like scraping softened butter with a knife.

At last, with yet another loud sound, the final chain was removed.

For the first time in nearly a week, the Ironfeather Eagle felt the taste of its lost freedom.

Its enormous body remained still for several seconds, digesting its joy.

Then it slowly stood up, its two legs firmly planted against the ground as the creature raised its head toward the crimson sky.

Despite all the changes that had occurred to its body, the pride that belonged to the Ironfeather Eagle remained untouched.

The creature slowly spread its wings as far as it could, revealing its true size to Ethan.

The wingspan was enormous—several times larger than the eagle’s own body.
