Chapter 228: The Intercontinental Gates, A Desperate Beacon

Dante stood in the center of the VIP suite, staring at the highly encrypted, magical distress signal hovering in his system interface.

[Incoming Transmission: The Blade-Saint]

[Message: Champion. The pact is invoked. The descendants of the Vanguard are under siege. The Beast-Emperor marches. We require immediate extraction.]

"Sera, the business celebration is going to have to wait," Dante announced, his voice dropping the casual tone entirely. He walked toward the massive mahogany table and projected the distress signal onto the holographic display for the squad to see.

"The Blade-Saint?" Lila asked, reading the glowing text with a deep frown. "The NPC who gave you the class scroll? Why is he asking for help now? I thought he was stuck in Outpost 404 playing the tutorial guide."

"He is," Dante confirmed. "His physical avatar is bound to the starter zone. But his descendants aren’t. They live on the Beast-Kin continent."

Nyx immediately pushed her dark glasses up, her fingers flying across her datapad as she pulled up the global API data.

"Dante, that’s impossible," Nyx stated flatly. "The Beast-Kin continent is currently under absolute, systemic lockdown. The Zenith Protocol isn’t scheduled to trigger the ’Intercontinental Expansion’ update until the second year of the cycle. The transit gates linking the Human continent to the other realms are completely sealed by administrative code."

Dante reached into his infinite void ring.

He didn’t pull out a massive weapon or a pile of gold coins. He pulled out the small, intricately carved key forged from pure, translucent crystal that he had looted from the Crucible of Realms.

[Item Appraised: The Key to the Continents]

[Tier: System Artifact]

"The gates are locked for standard players," Dante corrected her smoothly, holding the crystal key up to the light. "But the Crucible reward granted me administrative access. I can forcefully unlock the transit network right now."

Nyx stared at the key, her analytical mind rapidly calculating the geopolitical implications. "If you open the gates early, you completely break the server’s intended progression curve. The entire player base will flood into the new zones looking for higher-tier loot."

"Let them," Dante shrugged indifferently.

Dante looked out the floor-to-ceiling window at the bright blue sky above Aethelgardia.

"The system is terrified of us," Dante explained grimly, remembering the massive green eye of the Arch-Administrator and the deletion beam he had absorbed. "It tried to execute me and failed.

It tried to rig the Crucible and failed. Now, it’s actively trying to stall our progression by triggering massive, lore-heavy events early."

"It’s forcing the Beast-Emperor to march on the Blade-Saint’s descendants because it knows I made a promise to protect them,"

Dante continued, his red eyes narrowing. "It wants to bait me into a war on a completely unfamiliar, highly hostile continent to keep me away from the Capital."

"So it’s a trap," Mei concluded cheerfully, leaning casually on her massive, cast-iron frying pan.

"It’s a massive trap," Dante agreed. "The Beast-Kin continent isn’t like the Human territories. It’s wild, primal, and filled with hyper-aggressive, incredibly high-level flora and fauna. And if the Emperor is marching, we are looking at a localized army that makes Silas’s Vanguard look like a beginner’s tutorial."

"So we don’t go," Casanova suggested hopefully, slowly edging toward the heavy oak doors of the suite. "We stay right here in the completely indestructible building and count our billions. The NPCs can sort out their own family drama."

"I made a promise to a Guardian," Dante stated, his voice completely flat, leaving zero room for argument or cowardice. "I don’t break contracts."

He turned to Sera and Nyx.

"You two stay here," Dante ordered the corporate analysts. "Aegis Vanguard is officially a Level 5 guild. We have fifty thousand elite members and a massive treasury. Manage the new auction houses. Consolidate the guild’s wealth. If the remnants of Vanguard’s Legacy or the Apex Coalition try to restructure and push back, crush them financially."

"Understood," Sera nodded briskly, her business persona fully re-engaged. "We’ll lock down the Capital’s economy. The Emporium is safe."

Dante turned back to Lila, Mei, and Casanova.

"You three are staying too," Dante said.

"What?" Lila blinked, genuinely surprised. "You just said we’re walking into a massive trap on a hostile continent. You need your support squad!"

"I need my support squad holding the fort," Dante corrected her gently. "The system wants me distracted. If I take the entire core roster with me, the Arch-Administrator might try to trigger another event here in Aethelgardia while the Emporium is undefended. I need you guys protecting Sera and Nyx."

"Boss, you can’t solo an entire continent," Casanova pointed out, though he looked incredibly relieved that he wasn’t being dragged into another war zone.

"I won’t be solo," Dante lied smoothly, tapping the dark purple plating of his armor. "I have Erebus. I have Aura. And I have [Voidsever]. I’ll scout the territory, secure the descendants, and figure out exactly what the system is trying to hide over there."

"I don’t like it," Mei pouted, crossing her arms. "I wanted to see if Beast-Kin drop better loot than regular players."

"Next time," Dante promised.

He didn’t waste any more time arguing. He turned and walked out of the VIP suite, leaving the rest of his anomaly squad safely locked inside the indestructible sanctuary of the Astral Emporium.

He navigated the bustling, pristine white marble streets of the Capital alone.

He headed directly for the massive, highly restricted Grand Transit Hub located near the center of the city.

The Hub was a massive, open-air pavilion filled with dozens of swirling blue portals connecting the Capital to various mid-game outposts and dungeons. It was crowded with players organizing parties and trading gear.

But at the absolute far end of the pavilion, isolated on a raised dais of polished obsidian, stood a massive, towering archway forged from dark, heavy metal.

The archway was completely dark. There was no swirling blue light. The portal was dead.

Dante walked up the steps of the obsidian dais.

The system interface immediately popped up, flashing a stark, red warning.

[System Alert: Intercontinental Transit Gate.]

[Status: Locked.]

[Access Denied. Current Server Cycle Phase insufficient for inter-realm travel.]

Dante ignored the warning. He didn’t try to force the gate open with [Abyssal Cleave].

He pulled the translucent crystal [Key to the Continents] from his void ring.

He stepped up to the center of the dark archway and firmly pressed the glowing crystal key directly against the cold, unyielding metal of the gate.

The Zenith Protocol’s server architecture groaned.

It was a deep, resonant, mechanical sound that physically vibrated the cobblestones of the entire pavilion.

The thousands of players milling around the active portals stopped talking, turning their heads to stare at the massive, dark archway.

The crystal key dissolved into a stream of brilliant, blinding white light that aggressively traced the intricate carvings on the metal frame.

[Administrative Override Accepted.]

[System Parameters Updated.]

[Intercontinental Transit Gates: UNLOCKED.]

The dark archway didn’t just activate; it violently erupted.

A massive, swirling vortex of deep, vibrant green and primal gold energy tore open inside the metal frame.

The ambient air pressure in the pavilion violently shifted, a hot, humid breeze smelling of rich earth and dense jungle instantly spilling out of the portal and washing over the stunned crowd.

Dante didn’t wait for the players to start asking questions or swarming the new gate.

He pulled his heavy, starry [Mantle of the Void-Dragon] tighter around his shoulders.

He stepped through the swirling green vortex, leaving the familiar, structured civilization of the Human continent entirely behind.

The transition was significantly rougher than a localized fast-travel jump.

Dante felt the immense, crushing weight of crossing an actual continental server boundary.

The spatial pressure squeezed his avatar, rattling the gold plating of his [Evil Spirit Armor].

He was spat out of the portal, landing heavily on a massive, moss-covered stone platform.

He immediately drew the [Dawn-Breaker Blade], dropping into a low combat stance. His Intuition stat flared instantly, scanning the new environment for immediate threats.

He stood up slowly.

The environment was absolutely staggering.

He wasn’t in a pristine, white marble city or a dusty, ruined canyon.

The Beast-Kin continent was completely, unapologetically wild.

He was standing on a high cliff overlooking a massive, sprawling jungle that stretched endlessly to the horizon.

But the trees weren’t normal. They were colossal. The trunks were the size of small skyscrapers, their massive canopies completely blocking out the bright, golden sun, casting a deep, twilight gloom over the jungle floor below.

The ambient noise was deafening. It wasn’t the sound of player chatter or marching boots. It was a cacophony of massive, aggressive wildlife. Deep, resonant roars, piercing shrieks, and the heavy, rhythmic thud of gargantuan beasts moving through the dense underbrush echoed across the canopy.

[Zone Alert: The Primal Wilds]

[Current Location: Beast-Kin Continent]

[Warning: You have entered an Uncharted Realm. Players maps are disabled. Hostile fauna density is extreme.]

Dante sheathed his sword, taking a deep breath of the hot, humid air.

"Alright," Dante muttered to himself, checking his empty party interface. "A solo run in a hostile country. Just like the old days."

Before he could activate the flight passive on his cloak to scout the area from above, his Intuition stat pinged sharply.

It wasn’t the heavy, localized threat of a massive boss. It was a chaotic, disorganized flurry of combat signatures located near the base of the cliff he was currently standing on.

Dante walked to the edge of the mossy stone platform and looked down.

About a hundred feet below him, cutting through the dense, overgrown roots of the colossal trees, was a wide dirt path.

Moving slowly down the path was a small, heavily battered caravan. The wagons were crude, constructed from thick timber and massive, jagged bones.

Surrounding the caravan, fighting desperately to hold a defensive perimeter, was a group of roughly twenty players.

But they weren’t human.

They were Beast-Kin. They possessed humanoid bodies, but their features were heavily spliced with animal traits. Towering, heavily muscled warriors with lion manes and sharp claws wielded massive iron axes. Sleek, agile rogues with panther ears and tails darted through the brush with jagged daggers.

They were currently losing a very bloody battle.

The caravan was completely surrounded by a massive pack of mutated, six-legged reptilian hounds. The beasts were easily the size of small cars, their scales dripping with a highly corrosive, glowing purple slime that melted the Beast-Kins’ armor upon contact.

Dante didn’t recognize the players, and he didn’t care about the generic loot the hounds would drop.

But he needed information. He didn’t have a map of this continent, and he had no idea where the Blade-Saint’s descendants were hiding.

"I guess I’ll play the hero for a minute," Dante sighed.

He stepped off the edge of the cliff, plummeting toward the chaotic melee below.
