Chapter 341: Overwhelming[+120 Soul Points]
Kyle exhaled softly as he slashed his blade through the open air, flicking the blood from its edge.
Before him, the four Ghouls lay defeated, their bodies already beginning to fade from existence now that they had been slaughtered.
Veronica could only stare in wonder. Had a completely new rank of hunter just been introduced to the world without anyone noticing? She had never seen someone fight with such efficiency and precision, never giving their opponent even the slightest opportunity to exploit.
Kyle had not overwhelmed the Ghouls through sheer strength or speed. Instead, he relied on his wits, his awareness, and his proactive approach to combat. He never remained in one place for more than a moment, constantly shifting his position while keeping his eyes fixed on the weaknesses of his opponents. Every strike was deliberate, aimed at ending the battle before the monsters could even reveal the extent of their strength.
He was not here to duel with them.
He was here to end them.
That was the clearest impression Veronica had taken from the battle.
"What happened?" Kyle asked casually as he approached her.
Veronica glanced toward the rift before turning her attention back to him. "How come they were all attacking at once rather than summoning an army of Majins? That’s how they usually fight."
Kyle nodded. "True. But as I said, the rifts from here on will be more concentrated and filled with higher-quality monsters. They’re testing the waters this way, then they’ll prepare accordingly."
As he spoke, his eyes traveled downward before he said, "PSC works fast. The building is almost empty now."
Veronica was startled. "Oh." She glanced around before adding, "They must be close by. They couldn’t have responded this impossibly fast otherwise."
It had been barely five minutes since she made the call, which was precisely why their arrival surprised her.
"Ah, this is annoying," Kyle muttered, his attention returning to the rift.
It did not take long for Veronica to understand what he meant.
The crack began spilling Ghouls once again, and this time, the flow showed no sign of stopping.
"Woah... why don’t they stop?" Veronica exclaimed. More than ten Ghouls had already emerged by the time the rift finally stopped trembling.
Kyle narrowed his eyes as he faced the ten monsters. Each one differed in size and strength, but together, they possessed more than enough power to unleash massive chaos if they were allowed to run rampant.
Veronica immediately prepared herself as well, her body coiling with Genesis as she glanced toward Kyle, ready to move the moment he did.
However, just then, Kyle slowly straightened.
His posture changed completely, becoming so relaxed that it looked like anything but a battle stance.
"Kyle?" she called out in panic as half of the monsters had already lunged forward, their claws extended as they prepared to tear into them.
Kyle closed his eyes. Genesis erupted from his body like a powerful heartbeat, rippling through the air as he slowly raised one hand. His index and middle fingers pointed straight ahead.
Veronica reacted instantly, preparing to intervene and block the claw aimed directly at Kyle. However, her intervention proved unnecessary.
"Huh?"
Her hand met neither flesh nor steel. In the next instant, every monster was violently dragged backward at once.
Veronica landed on the concrete and immediately turned around.
DHAK!
CLANG!
THUD!
The Ghouls were pulled into one another as though an invisible, unbreakable rope had been wrapped around all ten of them and then yanked with overwhelming force. Their bodies slammed together, limbs twisting awkwardly as they were dragged toward a single point.
Veronica could only stare in disbelief.
All ten monsters were being crushed together, their footing completely gone and whatever resistance they attempted proving utterly futile against the force binding them.
"Khaaaag!"
"Raaargh!"
They roared and thrashed desperately, claws scraping against whatever bodies they could reach, but the pulling force continued to surge. Their bodies were compressed tighter and tighter, the sounds of snapping bones and tearing muscles soon filling the space around them.
Kyle narrowed his eyes before lunging forward.
He leapt high into the air, raising one hand above his head as a golden orb began to form at the tip of his index finger. The condensed Genesis gathered into a single point, radiating a dense and almost oppressive power.
Then, while still suspended in mid-air, he released it.
The condensed Genesis dropped directly into the mass of writhing monsters.
For a moment, nothing happened.
Then the cries intensified.
"GAAAAAHHH!!"
"KIIIIHHH!!"
The Ghouls’ bodies began to melt and fade away, their forms dissolving under the overwhelming force of the Genesis.
The conjunction of their bodies had created a point of resistance, but against the concentrated Genesis, there was only one possible outcome.
The purer form prevailed.
Kyle returned to Veronica’s side and received the notification.
[+300 Soul Points]
Kyle exhaled briefly. "That was disappointing."
Veronica’s lips parted in shock. "That was disappointing? How can you even say that?"
Even she, who was regarded as one of the strongest hunters in Guhang and possessed years of combat experience, would have needed considerably more time and suffered far more injuries to deal with so many Ghouls simultaneously.
Ghouls were not merely commanders of weaker creatures. Each possessed magical abilities that varied from one individual to another, making them dangerous in entirely different ways. Identifying the nature of their magic while simultaneously contending with their physical strength required time, patience, and considerable caution.
Yet Kyle had dealt with all ten of them in less than a minute. He had simply restrained them, crushed their resistance, and left them to meet their demise.
And somehow, after all that, he still looked dissatisfied.
Kyle shook his head. "I wanted to crush them using the gravitation pull. But I am lacking magic and practise. A shame."
"...." Ah...what should she even say? Comfort him? She was absolutely stunned right here how efficiently he killed them and he apparently wanted more perfection.
She decided to remain silent and gather her thoughts so she could talk to him about this better.
Just then, the rift began to tremble violently, expanding like never before.
Veronica’s whole body froze as she sensed it. The darkness was approaching.
Kyle gave the disturbance his full attention before muttering. "Here it comes."
