Chapter 1296: Chapter 1295: Design Blueprint

"He said he wanted to come and see." Jiang Cheng said.

"Manager Wu? When?" Bai asked.

"Right now." Jiang Cheng said.

Sure enough, within a few minutes, Wu Lei came in with a beaming face.

"Is it really done? So quickly?" Wu Lei seemed very shocked.

"Take a look." Jiang Cheng stepped aside to let Wu Lei see.

"Wow, for real? I thought I was dreaming. It’s really amazing," Wu Lei said. "We’ve been on this project for five years, and this bottleneck has been stuck for many years. We have the best workers in the country here. But...

Where have you been, Jiang Cheng? Why didn’t you show up before?" Wu Lei choked up a bit, not saying anything further.

Jiang Cheng thought to himself that he hadn’t been able to come before.

"Let’s have a celebration." Wu Lei suggested.

"Oh? No, no, no. It’s not completely solved yet, I plan to continue the research." Jiang Cheng said.

"Sigh, what’s the rush? This really deserves to be celebrated." Wu Lei said.

Jiang Cheng was unsure what to say.

"Let’s wait until it’s completely finished," Qiu Qingqing said.

Only then did Wu Lei notice Qiu Qingqing, whom he hadn’t noticed before. "Hmm, that works too." Wu Lei couldn’t explain why, but he felt Qiu Qingqing’s words had a certain power.

After speaking, Wu Lei received another call, seemingly something that needed his attention.

"I have to go. I have something to attend to. Keep up the good work." Wu Lei said with a smile.

"Brother, my mom said to come home for dinner tonight," Bai said. "I originally planned to take you out to eat." Bai pouted.

"Sure, your mother’s cooking is delicious," Jiang Cheng said happily.

After speaking, Jiang Cheng returned to the lab bench, continuing to examine the chips and simulators on the table, checking the data on the computer.

Bai watched Jiang Cheng working hard and moved to stand beside him, looking at the unfinished tasks. Qiu Qingqing was also there, studying and calculating.

It wasn’t until seven in the evening that Bai’s mother called him again. Only then did Bai realize it was late. He noticed Qingqing and Jiang Cheng still engrossed in their data.

"Brother?" Bai called out, and Jiang Cheng looked up, "What’s up?"

Jiang Cheng asked.

"It’s already past seven. My mom said we should probably head home for dinner. Should we come back tomorrow?" Bai asked.

Jiang Cheng noticed it was nearly dark outside, with streetlights and distant skyscraper lights illuminating the lab brightly.

"Have they all left?" Jiang Cheng asked about the Yi Company employees.

"I don’t know, but they should have finished for the day, considering the time," Bai said, feeling as if the hunger he’d ignored while focused on building the Time Machine was now making his stomach uncomfortable.

"Alright, let’s call it a day," Jiang Cheng said. "The design and models are mostly done. We can find someone to build it officially tomorrow." Jiang Cheng said.

With just himself, Bai, and Qiu Qingqing, creating something so large wasn’t feasible.

"Yeah, I’m really hungry," Bai said.

"What about Qingqing? Aren’t you leaving?" Bai asked, noticing that Qiu Qingqing hadn’t moved.

"I’ll leave later," Qiu Qingqing said softly without looking up.

Bai and Jiang Cheng didn’t say much else, leaving first. Arriving at Bai’s house, his mother welcomed them as soon as they entered. "You’re back so late. Are you hungry?" Bai’s mother asked.

"Hungry, Mom," Bai pouted, "Why didn’t you come back earlier? Were you out playing?" Bai’s mother knocked on Bai’s head playfully.

"I swear, I was with Brother the whole time at the company, really working tirelessly. If you hadn’t called, I wouldn’t even know the time," Bai said, looking aggrieved.

"Oh, really? But Xiao Jiang looks quite worn out," Bai’s mother said while looking at Jiang Cheng.

"Isn’t that right, Mom? I’m telling you, once Brother starts researching, he just doesn’t eat or drink. But he’s really amazing," Bai said.

"I see, I don’t know much about your work, but Xiao Jiang seems like a very outstanding kid." Bai’s mother said with a smile.

Jiang Cheng scratched his head, unsure of what to say.

"Come, come, sit down and eat!" Bai’s mother invited Jiang Cheng over to the table.

Without being shy, Jiang Cheng sat down, ready to eat.

Bai quietly sat next to the dining table, thinking that every time Brother came over, he seemed to forget about his son...

Jiang Cheng noticed the dishes today were even more plentiful than yesterday’s, a feast for the eyes.

"How does it taste, Xiao Jiang?" Bai’s mother asked.

"Delicious," Jiang Cheng said with a smile.

"Glad you like it, eat more," Bai’s mother said while serving Jiang Cheng more food with serving chopsticks.

Bai silently continued eating.

"Bai, can you help Xiao Jiang?" Bai’s mother asked.

"Mom, am I just causing trouble then?" Bai rolled his eyes.

"I’m just worried you might cause trouble. Of course, it’s best if you can help." Bai’s mother said.

"Even though I’m not as brilliant as Brother, I really enjoy the process - calculating, programming, testing performance. I always feel those machines aren’t lifeless; they’re part of our lives. Whenever there’s progress, I get especially excited," Bai said, his face full of joy.

"Yes, I know you like it, but are you sure you want to do this for your entire life?" Bai’s mother asked.

"No, after finishing this project, I plan to help at your company," Bai said.

Jiang Cheng looked at Bai, whose expression suddenly turned calm, devoid of the excitement from earlier, but also not dejected, just speaking calmly.

"Are you serious? I used to pressure you so much, and you didn’t go. Why now?" Bai’s mother put down her chopsticks, looking at Bai.

"I just suddenly figured it out. There isn’t really a reason," Bai said with a smile.

Bai’s mother saw Bai smiling, but felt it seemed forced. She recalled how much Bai loved robots as a child, playing with them every day, his father always playing along too. She had been managing the company by herself. Later, when Bai’s father passed away, Bai wasn’t as lively, yet he still loved to look at computers, chips, and play with robots. Seeing him so happy talking about robots just now, it seemed like ages since he was that happy.

"Bai, tell Mom, do you really enjoy what you’re doing now?" Bai’s mother asked.

Bai looked at her, "Yes, I like it." "Then go for it. The company’s got me. What do you need to help me with? It’s been just me for all these years. Who said you had to help?" Bai’s mother gave Bai a look, saying those words.

Bai stared blankly at her, silent for a long time, "But I should take over eventually."

"That’s not something for you to worry about. Just remember, if you like it, give it your all and make yourself happy. Understood?" Bai’s mother said.

"Mom..." Bai was choked with emotion.
