Supreme Bloodline Evolution System
Chapter 232: New Goal: Destroy them allThe black sphere settled around Parahdon, cutting the capital away from the night sky as the last traces of mana disappeared into Max’s body. The Imperial soldiers surrounding him tried to activate their weapons again, but the golden runes remained dark, leaving them with nothing more than ordinary steel in their hands.
Max continued walking toward them.
The first soldier rushed forward while shouting for the others to attack. His sword never reached Max. Black mist rose from the ground and wrapped around his arm, spreading beneath the armor before pulling every trace of mana from his body. The man stumbled, his skin rapidly losing color as the void continued taking more, dragging away the heat in his blood and the strength holding him upright.
He collapsed before Max’s feet, but the darkness did not release him. His flesh dried against his bones, his eyes sank into their sockets, and the last remains of his body broke apart into black dust before being swallowed by the mist.
Something moved inside Max’s mind.
More.
The voice almost sounded like his own, but its hunger came from somewhere deeper, connected to the Void Heart and the Death Bloodline waiting to awaken.
Max smiled and allowed the darkness to spread.
Dozens of Imperial soldiers attacked at once, throwing blades, arrows, and spears after realizing their magic would not respond. Some weapons fell after losing their enchantments, while others vanished inside the void before reaching him.
Dark tendrils rose between the soldiers and entered every opening in their armor. Screams filled the road as their mana was ripped away, followed by their blood and life, while pale fragments of their souls entered the Death Bloodline. Max could feel all of it entering him before disappearing into an emptiness that appeared to have no end.
The soldiers closest to him died first. Their bodies shriveled and collapsed, only to break apart when the mist passed over them again. Those standing farther away turned and ran toward the gates, pushing one another aside while shouting for the city to be sealed, but the darkness had already entered Parahdon and covered every street.
Do not let them escape.
Max lifted one hand.
The void gathered around the fleeing soldiers and pulled them backward. Men were dragged from the walls, torn through windows, and ripped from behind doors they had attempted to lock. Their bodies crossed the streets before gathering above Max, hundreds of soldiers hanging in the air while black mist tightened around their throats and limbs.
He closed his fingers.
Every body folded at once. Armor cracked, bones shattered, and streams of golden mana were torn from the soldiers before their remaining life followed. The mist swallowed everything, leaving broken pieces of empty armor to rain across the ground without the corpses that had once filled them.
The voice inside Max released something resembling a satisfied breath.
Yes. Feed me.
The Death Bloodline responded as more lives disappeared. Pale energy mixed with the mist, allowing Max to sense every person trapped throughout the streets, houses, towers, and underground shelters.
His void magic continued growing as it consumed them. The soul rune carved into his Magic Soul became darker and heavier, taking in more power than it had ever contained. Max had spent a long time forcing the Rune Realm forward, yet the surrounding deaths pushed it toward its limit within minutes.
Something new began forming beside the existing soul rune.
It was little more than a thin mark at first, but every life taken by the void made it stretch farther across his Magic Soul. Max did not understand what it would become, and he did not slow down to examine it.
He entered Parahdon.
The Frankindian citizens fled when they saw him walking through the broken gate. Some recognized his face and shouted that King Maximus had returned, while others dropped to their knees and begged him to save them from the Imperial Court. Max ignored their pleas as darkness moved through the buildings around him, searching every room for the person he had crossed the human lands to find.
"Where is Clotilde?" he demanded, strengthening his voice until the entire street shook.
Nobody answered.
Max dragged a group of Frankindian soldiers from a nearby building and threw them into the road. Their black armor carried the silver crest of the kingdom, though none of their weapons showed signs of having been used recently.
"Where is she?"
The soldiers exchanged frightened looks. One claimed Clotilde had disappeared after leaving the palace during the battle, while another said the Imperial Court might have taken her. None knew whether she remained alive, and their conflicting answers only made the hunger inside Max grow stronger.
"You hid while she ran outside alone," Max said.
"We were ordered to protect the king," an officer answered as he lowered his head. "Commander Clotilde disobeyed His Majesty and abandoned the palace. We could not follow her."
Max stared at him for a moment before black mist entered the gaps beneath his helmet.
The officer screamed as the void drained him from within. His mana vanished first, followed by the life inside his flesh, leaving his armor standing for several seconds before it collapsed into an empty pile. The remaining Frankindian soldiers tried to retreat, but darkness wrapped around their legs and spread upward until their voices disappeared alongside their bodies.
The citizens watching from the surrounding houses finally understood that Max had not returned to rescue them.
Panic spread through Parahdon. Families rushed into basements, wounded soldiers attempted to climb the ruined walls, and groups of Frankindians gathered inside temples while praying for protection. The sphere surrounding the capital allowed nobody through. Anyone touching its surface lost their mana immediately, and those who continued pushing against it began losing their lives as well.
Max walked toward the palace while the void followed him through every street.
Imperial soldiers gathered in formations and attempted to block the roads, only to disappear beneath the darkness before their commanders finished giving orders. Frankindian warriors who raised their weapons met the same fate. Max no longer separated the people who had invaded the city from those who had hidden while he fought outside its walls. Every death strengthened his magic, awakened more of the pale power inside his bloodline, and fed the voice whispering from the back of his mind.
More. There are still so many.
The black mist entered homes as he passed, pulling people through doors and broken windows. Mana and life flowed from their bodies in multicolored streams before becoming colorless inside the void. Nothing remained behind except clothing, armor, and personal belongings falling onto empty streets.
By the time Max reached the palace, nearly the entire capital had fallen silent.
The surviving royal guards sealed the entrance and gathered behind a defensive formation powered by crystals stored beneath the floor. Max placed one palm against the barrier and drained it dry. Cracks spread across the transparent surface before the entire formation collapsed, allowing the void to rush through the entrance and swallow the warriors waiting behind it.
They died without slowing him for a single step.
Max entered the throne room and found King Clovis the Third surrounded by Gunthar, the remaining royal guards, and the same officials who had sheltered inside the palace during the battle. Their black armor remained clean compared to the equipment worn by those who had defended the walls, and several still carried enough mana to prove they had done almost nothing while Max fought the six enemy warriors alone.
"Where is Clotilde?" Max asked.
Clovis stared at him with wide silver eyes, unable to hide his shock upon seeing the man Augustus had killed standing before his throne. His gaze moved toward the repaired center of Max’s chest before returning to his face.
"I do not know," the king answered.
Gunthar stepped forward and accused Max of bringing the invasion upon Frankindia, but darkness reached him before he finished speaking. His body lifted from the floor as mana poured from his mouth and eyes, followed by a pale stream of life that disappeared into Max’s chest.
The sight caused everyone else to attack.
Max opened both hands, and the throne room became black. Void magic filled every space between the pillars, passed through armor, and entered the bodies of the officials and guards. Their screams lasted only seconds before they fell apart, leaving Clovis alone upon the throne as the darkness consumed everyone who had hidden beside him.
The new mark upon Max’s Magic Soul stretched farther. His Rune Realm had reached its limit, yet the power continued entering him, pressing against that boundary while something unfamiliar prepared to emerge.
Max looked toward Clovis.
The old king attempted to rise, but void magic wrapped around his body and dragged him from the throne. He flew across the room before stopping in front of Max, suspended several feet above the floor with his arms forced apart.
"You remained here while I died protecting your capital," Max said as the darkness tightened around him. "Now you will tell me everything you know about Clotilde."
Clovis opened his mouth, but his words became a scream as Max began draining him. Silver mana poured from the king’s body, followed by his strength and lifeforce, while the voice inside Max’s mind grew louder than ever.
