System Mission: Seduce the Final Boss [BL]
Chapter 201: Chemistry in other fields’Okay, huh...’
Blake looked down.
Then immediately looked back up.
’I wasn’t flying this high earlier!’
The ground was... really far away.
Much farther than he had expected.
The city beneath him looked almost miniature from this height, the buildings blending together into one enormous grey carpet.
Blake swallowed.
"Okay."
He glanced at his boots, then right ahead.
’I’m definitely not falling, right? Because if something suddenly stops working...’
He imagined the propulsion system shutting down.
The stabilization failing, the helmet malfunctioning, the armor suddenly deciding that it had had enough of him.
Blake’s expression slowly became horrified.
’Nope. Don’t think about it, this was made by Myles’ coworkers. Estelle and Alexis would be pretty offended if they knew I doubted their work!’
He lowered himself slightly.
Then slowed down.
Much slower than he actually wanted.
His stomach felt strange whenever he looked down, and every little mechanical noise coming from the suit made him wonder whether something was about to break.
Even if he does somewhat trust Alexis and Estelle to build this thing, that didn’t mean he had suddenly developed absolute faith in technology.
Especially technology that was currently keeping him hundreds of meters above the ground.
’I mean...’
He glanced toward the route on his visor.
’I’ll be with Myles anyway, so maybe I’ll Sneak For My Lover won’t even be relevant.’
He paused.
’Still, I don’t want to waste it.’
That settled it.
Blake took a breath, then accelerated, the wind immediately hit his suit harder.
His stomach lurched.
"Ah—!"
He gritted his teeth and kept going.
This was definitely faster than the elevator, but at least the elevator had walls, which made the process more reassuring.
Flying through the open sky had none.
Blake forced himself to ignore the uncomfortable feeling in his stomach.
The suit was working.
The stabilization was working.
The propulsion was working.
Everything was fine.
He simply had to trust it.
Soon, the first location appeared on his visor.
Blake slowed down.
The building was ahead.
Then a warning appeared.
[ Warning: "I’ll Sneak For My Lover" will now be available for 10 minutes. ]
Blake blinked.
"Oh."
Ten minutes... upon seeing that, he deactivated the skill immediately.
The propulsion cut.
Blake dropped.
"WHOA—!"
He quickly reactivated the suit’s stabilization and adjusted his position.
His boots slammed against the ground.
THUD.
Blake stumbled forward.
"...Ow."
He looked down.
Actually, it didn’t hurt.
He straightened.
"Who cares."
A few meters ahead, Myles was already looking at him.
Blake waved.
"Hi!"
Then he jogged toward him.
Myles waited patiently.
"Our target isn’t hiding here."
He pointed toward the building.
Blake looked.
"...An abandoned building like always."
"This is the first of four locations."
Blake sighed.
"They’re all distant from underground entrances and public CCTV coverage. That makes them suitable hiding places."
"Right."
"They’ve installed our own surveillance devices around the area."
Blake nodded.
"So we’re being watched too..."
"Yeah."
"And whoever is inside could attack us."
"They would, but there’s nobody in there."
Blake paused.
"Man... is that so? Then what are here for?"
"We will have to inspect the building in either case, and see what was left behind."
The two approached the building.
Myles studied the exterior.
He examined the windows, roofline, entrances, and surrounding terrain.
After a few seconds, he looked toward one of the upper windows.
Then simply flew inside.
Blake stared.
"Right."
He activated his boots.
The propulsion kicked in.
Blake flew after him.
Unfortunately, he wasn’t nearly as graceful.
He nearly collided with the window frame.
"Ah—!"
He twisted sideways at the last second and stumbled into the room.
Myles looked at him.
Blake straightened.
"I meant to do that."
Myles said nothing.
Blake cleared his throat.
There was no one inside, just as Myles accurately heard. The building appeared completely abandoned.
Dust covered the floor, old furniture had been pushed against the walls and the air smelled stale.
But then Blake noticed something.
Cats.
Several of them.
They were lying around the building.
Not moving.
Blake’s expression changed.
"Those are the surveillance animals!!"
Myles crouched beside one.
Then, without hesitation, he opened the animal directly from the abdomen.
Blake’s entire body stiffened.
"Oh."
He immediately turned around.
’Nope.’
He walked toward another part of the building.
"I’ll search over here."
Myles didn’t comment.
Blake activated thermal vision. The visor shifted.
The building was truly completely devoid of humans, apart from him, and half of Myles.
Blake slowly looked around.
Then he glanced back at Myles.
The contrast was a little uncanny.
Myles stood among the cold, abandoned surroundings, his own body giving off almost none of the warmth Blake associated with living people.
His blood was cold, his skin was cold.
Everything about him seemed unnaturally cold.
Standing beside dead cats in an abandoned building made the whole scene feel even stranger.
Blake shivered.
Myles stood.
"These things are useless."
He turned toward the window.
Then flew out.
Blake remained still for another second.
"...What an absurd experience."
He immediately followed.
Outside, Myles was waiting several meters above the ground.
"The next location is also in a deserted area."
"Where?"
"Near the beach."
Blake looked toward the horizon and sighed heavily.
"That’s far..."
They flew.
This time, Blake tried not to look down.
The forest stretched beneath them as they crossed it, sunlight flickering between the trees.
Slowly, ge became more comfortable, probably also because he was near Myles.
He adjusted his posture.
Then his speed.
Then his turns.
He was still cautious, but again, the suit really was intuitive.
Eventually, the forest ended.
Ahead stood an old factory near the coast.
Myles slowed.
"This is the location."
He landed beside him.
"There are people this time."
Blake immediately nodded.
"I’ll ambush them."
Myles looked at him.
"Be careful."
"I will."
"Yeah, I mean... we don’t know what they’re willing to do with the blueprints. If they have them, they may destroy them rather than allow anyone else to obtain them."
Myles nodded.
"We won’t give them time. If anything goes wrong with your stealth, I’ll intervene."
Blake smiled.
"Got it."
He looked toward the factory.
Then mouthed without a sound:
"I’ll sneak for my lover."
Myles immediately grabbed him.
Blake blinked.
"Uh..."
Myles stared at him.
Apparently, he still hadn’t gotten used to the effect.
Blake gently pushed his hand away, the immediately flew inside.
The factory was a little chaotic, which would’ve been difficult to tell from outside.
People were shouting.
Several men were moving between machinery.
And they were fighting.
Blake slowed.
’What the hell?’
One man shoved another into a metal table.
Someone else shouted that they needed to leave.
Another person was searching through boxes.
There was no obvious sign of the blueprints.
’It is a bit of a pain that I’ve got no idea what they look like...’
Maybe this wasn’t the specific group they were looking for.
Still, they had served Ren.
Even after his death, they were clearly involved in whatever remained of his organization.
He deactivated the skill.
Then accelerated.
He shot toward one of the men.
"HEY!"
The man barely turned before Blake’s fist struck him.
BOOM.
The man was launched several meters backward, crashing against the concrete floor.
Blake stared at his fist.
"Okay."
That attack had felt stronger than expected.
But the man wasn’t down. He immediately got back up.
Myles landed from behind him.
Blake turned.
He entered the room.
The atmosphere changed instantly.
Several men stopped fighting.
Then they all attacked.
Myles disappeared.
One second he was beside Blake.
CRACK.
He appeared behind one of the attackers, striking him across the back.
The man dropped.
Another rushed toward Blake.
Blake ducked beneath the punch.
He retaliated with an elbow.
The impact barely moved the man.
"Seriously?!"
The man swung again.
His defensive enhancement, plus his armor, prevented any damages.
BOOM.
The blow hit his armor.
The force pushed him backward several meters.
His boots scraped against the floor.
"Okay..."
Blake shook his arm.
"That could’ve hurt."
Myles appeared beside him.
"Don’t fight them directly."
"I noticed..!"
"Use the environment."
Blake looked around, then smiled.
"Right."
A metal beam hung overhead.
Blake flew upward.
The attacker followed.
Blake suddenly stopped.
The man overshot him.
Blake grabbed the beam, swung around it, and kicked the man in the back.
The kick wasn’t enough to seriously injure him.
But it sent him crashing into another opponent.
Myles immediately capitalized.
He moved through the opening Blake had created, striking one man in the ribs before twisting around another’s attack.
Blake landed.
Another enemy charged. Blake raised his arm.
The suit reinforced itself.
BANG.
The attack connected.
Blake held his ground this time, then he punched.
The man staggered.
Not down, but it was enough.
Myles appeared beside Blake.
"Left."
Blake reacted instantly.
He ducked.
Myles’s strike passed over him and hit the attacker behind him.
"Right."
Blake turned.
He saw another man approaching.
He activated the propulsion beneath one boot.
His body spun.
His shoulder slammed into the man’s chest.
The man stumbled.
Myles caught his arm and threw him aside.
Blake stared.
"...We work pretty well together."
Myles didn’t look at him.
"Focus."
"You know I’m right...!"
Another man attacked.
Blake raised his arms.
Myles stepped behind him.
The attack struck Blake’s armor.
Myles used the opening to strike the attacker.
Blake immediately followed with a kick.
The man fell.
There was almost no hesitation between them.
Blake would create openings.
Myles would exploit them.
Myles would force an opponent into a bad position.
Blake would capitalize.
They weren’t equally powerful, but their movements complemented each other surprisingly well...
Blake couldn’t overpower second generations, but he didn’t need to if he had one by his side.
His mobility gave him options.
The suit gave him speed.
And Myles gave him precision.
One opponent tried to circle behind Blake.
Myles noticed first.
"Behind you."
Blake turned too late.
The man’s fist came toward his helmet.
Myles caught the attacker’s wrist.
Blake immediately punched the man’s stomach.
The attacker doubled over.
Myles twisted his arm behind his back and slammed him against the floor.
Blake stared.
"That was smooth."
Myles released him.
"You’re distracted."
"I’m appreciating our teamwork."
"Do it later."
Blake grinned beneath his helmet.
"Fine."
Another attacker rushed them.
This time, they moved simultaneously.
Blake flew upward.
Myles stepped sideways.
The attacker passed between them.
Blake rotated in midair and struck him from above while Myles swept his legs from beneath him.
The man crashed down.
Silence followed.
Blake landed beside Myles.
He looked around.
Most of the men were either unconscious or struggling to get back up.
Blake exhaled.
"Still no blueprints."
Myles looked across the factory.
"Then we search."
Blake nodded.
"Right."
Their fight had been messy.
But somehow, it had worked.
