Blake kept walking, avoiding to look back.
His heartbeat was still unusually loud in his ears, and although his skill continued to make everyone around him ignore his presence, he couldn’t shake the feeling that something had changed.
Captain Caine.
’He left a weird impression when I saw him... I mean, he did basically threaten the staff and their families.’
As he continued to walk ahead, he noticed that on both sides of the corridor, there were a bunch of soldiers lined up.
"Don’t just stand there, line up."
Blake immediately went at the end of the row and positioned exactly like the other soldiers.
A moment later, he could hear slow but loud footsteps approaching.
"At ease."
He stiffened at the sight.
’It seemed like those soldiers were just about to contact him... how is he already there?’
The same imposing person he remembered was there, not even glancing at the soldiers.
’What is that thing he’s wearing? Sunglasses? I mean, it must be some sort of device.’
He let out a heavy sigh, looking down for a second.
’Just scram... I have other things to do!’
He hadn’t noticed it immediately, since he’d been too focused on getting away from the archive.
But when the man had stopped, Blake had looked up.
And for one brief second, their eyes had met. Or at least, he thought they had.
Captain Caine had frozen only for a fraction of a second.
But that was enough to make Blake’s entire body go tense.
’Is he looking at me?’
His danger sense had practically screamed at him.
But then Caine’s head had shifted, his expression remaining unreadable. He simply continued walking.
Blake hadn’t breathed until he’d turned the corner.
’Seems like that was just my imagination.’
He couldn’t afford to spiral.
"What are you waiting for? Keep moving."
That sudden voice startled him. Regardless, he felt grateful for that wake up call. He continued deeper into the facility.
The archive had given them something, even if not what they’d wanted.
’I mean, they have been experimenting on aliens for almost a century...’
And that one successful subject... Blake still couldn’t stop thinking about it.
Stable integration.
Two words, and they weren’t enough to explain anything.
’But I mean, a face like hers... she looked at lot like Myles.’
Blake passed another security door.
The next section appeared to be some kind of research storage area.
Unlike the archive, there weren’t rows of cabinets.
Instead, there were dozens of small rooms.
Each had a glass window, an inside were various objects, like equipment, containers, samples, old machinery, and so on...
Some were clearly labeled, while others had no identification whatsoever.
Blake walked past several of them.
"Anything useful?"
Momentarily deactivating his skill, he replied, "Not yet."
"Then keep searching."
He moved into another corridor.
The deeper he went, the stranger the rooms became. One contained old medical equipment.
Another had several empty containment chambers.
A third contained shelves of sealed glass containers, and inside was a collection of biological samples. He picked one up, and put it inside his own storage.
Blake walked away, entering other rooms, but there was nothing he could use.
He was starting to think they had gotten everything they could, at this point.
’Maybe it’s in another section entirely...’
Then, he saw a beautiful azure.
Blake stopped. It was sitting inside a small glass recipient.
The flower itself was tiny.
Its petals were a soft, almost luminous azure, arranged in a delicate cluster around a warm yellow center.
It looked completely out of place.
Everything around it was metal, concrete, glass, and machinery.
And there it was, a little flower.
Blake stared at it.
’What? Why the hell do they have a flower stored here?’
He frowned as he stepped closer.
The flower looked dried, but somehow preserved.
It wasn’t particularly beautiful and it certainly didn’t look valuable.
Yet Blake found himself staring at it.
For some reason, he wanted it.
"Blake."
"Yeah?"
"What are you looking at."
Blake hesitated.
Then, ignoring Alexis, he reached toward the glass. His fingers touched the container, and nothing happened.
Slowly, he lifted it.
The instant his fingers wrapped around the glass...
Crack.
A sharp, overwhelming pain exploded through his head.
"AH—!"
Blake dropped the container, his knees buckling, hands flying toward his head.
"What is it?!"
Alexis’s voice came through the communicator.
"What happened?!"
Blake couldn’t answer.
His vision blurred, while his surroundings disappeared.
The underground facility was gone.
Instead, he saw a child standing in front of him.
Blake couldn’t see the child’s face clearly.
Everything was distorted.
But he could see their small, delicate hands.
They were holding the same flower.
The azure petals with the yellow center.
The child looked toward him, then smiled as they held it out for him.
Blake’s breath caught.
"What..."
The child moved closer.
The flower was placed into Blake’s hands.
The moment he touched it, the vision shattered.
"AHHH!"
He collapsed onto one knee. His head felt like it was splitting apart. His heartbeat was pounding violently while his body trembled.
[ !WARNING! ]
Blake’s eyes widened.
[ System will have to reload in: ]

"What?"
[ 2 ]
"Wait—"
[ 1 ]
The strange sensation that had always been sitting somewhere inside his mind.
Gone.
Blake stared blankly.
"No."
He touched his head.
"Spoon?"
Nothing.
"Spoon!"
Alexis was shouting.
"Blake! What happened?!"
Blake raised his head, his vision still shaking.
Soldiers were entering the corridor.
And suddenly, they noticed him. Every single one.
Blake’s blood ran cold.
"Huh?"
Looking down at his body, he was clearly looking as he wanted.
"What are you waiting for?! Fight and run!"
Alexis’s voice was sharper than Blake had ever heard it.
"The mission is over!"
Blake stumbled upright.
A soldier shouted.
"The intruder is here!"
Another raised his weapon.
Blake ran, not thinking straight.
The corridor behind him erupted into movement.
Soldiers chased him.
Blake reached into his uniform and grabbed his regular gun.
He turned around while running, and shoot.
The beam struck a soldier in the leg.
The man collapsed.
Blake immediately turned and continued.
Another soldier appeared from the side.
Blake ducked.
A fist passed over his head.
He slammed his shoulder into the man’s chest and staggered past him.
"Get him!"
Blake’s body screamed at him.
Without his skills, everything felt heavier.
His head still hurt.
His vision kept flickering.
He felt at his weakest.
But he couldn’t stop.
He fired again, the bullet struck another soldier’s shoulder.
The man fell backward.
Blake kept moving, his breathing becoming ragged.
"Alexis!"
"I’m coming."
"Where are you?!"
"Keep moving toward the way you entered."
Blake ran.
The corridor seemed endless, every turn looking the same.
’Remember the way, remember! I studied it by heart! Blake...’
He nearly tripped, his hand catching the wall.
His head throbbed.
’Why Spoon disappear?!’
He couldn’t think about it, as he reached another intersection.
Two soldiers appeared.
Blake raised the weapon and shoot.
The soldiers stumbled, and he ran between them.
He could hear more approaching.
’There is just too many...!’
He was almost there, at the hospital.
The entrance.
The tiles.
He recognized the corridor.
Blake’s eyes widened.
"There!"
He stopped in front of the locked door.
He started punching it. He couldn’t lose his time!
The alarm was still blaring underground.
People were shouting.
Doors were opening.
BOOM!
The explosion came from behind him.
Blake was thrown forward.
The entire corridor shook as concrete collapsed.
Dust filled the air.
Blake hit the ground and rolled.
He coughed, his ears ringing.
Behind him, the passage had collapsed.
A huge section of the underground entrance had caved in.
Concrete and debris blocked the soldiers’ line of sight.
For a few seconds, nobody could see through the dust.
Blake stared.
Then, a hand grabbed him.
"Got you."
Alexis.
Blake barely had time to react before Alexis lifted him.
They shot upward.
Looking back, he saw a gun pointed right at Alexis.
Instinctively, Blake shifted.
Bang!
Blake immediately looked at Alexis, clinging to him tighter.
"Be careful—"
"Fuck!"
Alexis pulled him higher up, looking pissed... and panicked.
Blake looked at where he was looking, and say a beautiful red blooming from his side.
They burst out through the hospital’s upper access route.
Alexis immediately carried Blake away from the building.
The wind struck Blake’s face as he looked at himself.
The hospital was already disappearing behind them.
His breathing remained uneven.
His hands were shaking.
That beautiful azure.
"We’ll figure it out. An injury like this won’t kill you."
Alexis spoke as if Blake was scared about dying. That frantic tone didn’t suit him
Blake swallowed.
"What if..."
He couldn’t finish.
Blake closed his eyes.
The child’s small hands appeared in his memory again.
Alexis just looked ahead.
Neither of them spoke again for a while.
Behind them, deep beneath the hospital, the collapsed corridor remained buried.
And somewhere beneath all that concrete and steel... the old records were still there.
Along with the room where Blake had found the flower.
