System Mission: Seduce the Final Boss [BL]
Chapter 211: You’re can’t be gone in meBlake was falling, or perhaps floating.
It was difficult to tell.
There was no wind against his skin, no sensation of gravity pulling him downward. His body simply drifted through an endless darkness, slowly descending as though the darkness itself were carrying him.
He couldn’t see anything or hear anything.
But he wasn’t afraid, really. If anything, he felt bored, as if missing something.
Eventually, his body softy landed on a smooth surface.
He was simply continuing to look at nothing, laying down with no thought.
Then, he felt a gurgle, which made him look down.
A beautiful red color was sprouting from his body.
It spread outward in delicate, almost organic shapes, bright against the surrounding darkness.
Blake stared.
He couldn’t tell where it was coming from.
There was no wound ot pain.
Nothing that should have caused it.
He simply watched.
Then, tired, he closed his eyes.
When he opened them again, someone was standing in front of him.
It was Blake, with an unbearably sad expression on his face.
He was holding out a tiny ball of light.
"*****, why are you still questioning this?"
He took a step backward.
"What do you mean?"
The real Blake’s face scrunched up, tears gathering in his eyes.
"That beautiful color."
His voice trembled.
"You saw it."
He stared at him.
The real Blake suddenly flickered, his outline distorting.
His face shifted for a fraction of a second, then returned to normal.
Then it kept happening, over and over.
He felt something surge inside his chest.
"Why are you smiling?"
Blake’s face immediately shifted.
He didn’t know.
He didn’t understand.
The real Blake’s body continued to glitch.
"You can’t get rid of me."
Blake’s heart suddenly stopped.
"What?"
His body began fading.
Not the real Blake.
But himself.
He looked down. His hands were becoming transparent.
"No."
Panic finally reached him.
He stepped forward.
The real Blake held the little ball of light between them.
He lunged, his hands pushing against him.
That beautiful ball of light touched him, as the real Blake was thrown backward.
The light vanished.
Only a faint warmth remained against his chest.
For one moment, they stared at each other.
The real Blake’s expression wasn’t angry.
It was bitterly sad.
Then, he disappeared.
The warmth disappeared with him.
And suddenly, he felt himself again.
His hands.
His body.
His heartbeat.
Everything.
Yes.
How happy.
Blake smiled.
He looked upward.
There was nothing.
Only darkness.
And he continued smiling.
***
Blake opened his eyes.
There was a familiar black ceiling.
He stared at it.
For several seconds, he didn’t move.
His eyes remained fixed on the same spot.
Nothing happened.
His chest rose and fell, over and over, just like how he fell within that dream.
His fingers rested uselessly against the sheets.
He didn’t know what he was supposed to feel.
He didn’t know why his throat felt so tight.
His eyes moved slightly.
A fluorescent light was reflected in them.
The room smelled faintly of disinfectant.
Something was attached to his arm, it was an IV.
Blake stared at it, his eyes and fingers twitching.
He could hear something beeping slowly and consistently.
He swallowed.
His mouth was dry.
"You!"
Blake flinched violently.
His head turned.
Alexis was standing several steps away.
His expression was furious.
Behind him, Myles was already moving.
He had crossed half the room before Alexis even finished speaking. He stopped beside the bed.
Estelle was there.
Tania.
Zlatan.
All of them entered the room.
Blake stared.
Something inside his head clicked.
The hospital.
The mission.
The flower.
The system.
The collapse.
Alexis.
Being carried away.
Everything returned at once.
Blake opened his mouth.
"—"
Myles gently lifted his head.
"Drink."
A glass touched his lips.
Blake froze for a second, then complied and started drinking. The water was cool, he hadn’t even realized how thirsty he was.
He swallowed several times before Myles lowered the glass.
Blake looked at everyone again.
He had been about to say something.
What?
He couldn’t remember.
Actually... maybe he’d never had anything to say.
He stared at them.
Somehow, he’d gotten comfortable around them, as they were spending more and more time together.
That shouldn’t have happened.
He had originally intended to earn their trust and make himself useful, to prove that he wasn’t some burden they had to kill.
Then, he could help them... until they wouldn’t wish the world to end.
He was supposed to retrieve the files.
He had failed.
His eyes watered, a tiny shimmer gathering along his lower eyelids.
Everyone noticed, which made them stiffen.
Blake’s lips trembled.
’I had to win them over.’
His chest tightened.
’I had to find those files, so that they would acknowledge me.’
But suddenly, the dream came back.
That strange feeling.
That empty space inside his chest.
As though something had been removed from him.
Blake looked down.
He felt childish.
What he was going through wasn’t even half of what these people had endured.
They lost years, didn’t get to have any family to rely on. Their parents’ bodies had been experimented on, and now they’re forced to be fugitives.
All of them didn’t even know where they came from.
And here he was... crying because he missed his family.
His parents.
His sibling.
Blake’s fingers curled into the blanket.
Then, something surfaced.
A memory.
His mother. She had been pregnant.
Blake remembered being excited.
He remembered asking questions.
He remembered wondering what his sibling would look like.
He remembered the happiness.
He remembered how he’d wanted to be there when the baby was born.
Then, nothing. Then he was here.
The memory disappeared beneath the fog again, leaving behind only the ache of something precious he’d lost.
Blake slowly exhaled.
He looked at Alexis.
"I’m sorry."
His voice trembled.
Alexis’ expression shifted.
Blake looked at everyone else.
"I failed."
His eyes dropped.
"I shouldn’t have been so arrogant. I thought I could do everything because I improved so much..."
His throat tightened.
"I’m sorry."
A tear slipped down his cheek.
"But please..."
Another followed.
"I..."
Blake pressed his lips together, not able to stop them anymore.
"Don’t dislike me."
His voice broke.
Alexis’ expression twisted.
"Drop it already."
Blake looked down, his shoulders trembling.
Alexis stepped closer.
"You weren’t that useless."
Blake slowly looked up.
Alexis looked absolutely furious, but there was something else there too.
Embarrassment.
He looked away.
"Nobody expected you to retrieve anything major."
Blake blinked.
"But—"
"And yet," Alexis continued, "you still retrieved some pretty important things."
He pointed toward Blake, raising his voice.
"So stop being so arrogant and crying this pathetically! You’re pissing me off!"
Estelle immediately pushed Alexis’ face away.
"Could you stop being so terrible at comforting people?"
"I’m not doing anything, you old hag!"
"I’m in my thirties, give me a break! Stop speaking to him if you can’t do it any differently than this."
Blake sniffled.
Estelle sighed.
"You have the alien body parts, Blake."
Blake looked at her.
"Those samples, together with what you retrieved, can give us something useful. We can compare the biological information from those experiments with the tissue samples."
Tania nodded.
"And compare our own DNA against them."
Blake’s eyes widened slightly.
"So..."
"We may finally be able to identify similarities," Estelle said. "Even if they don’t directly match any of us, they’ll tell us which experiments are relevant."
Zlatan folded his arms.
"And there is something else."
He reached for a folder.
Blake stared at him.
Zlatan opened it.
Inside was the photograph of that woman.
Blake recognized her immediately.
The same face.
The woman who looked remarkably similar to Myles.
Blake’s breathing stopped.
His eyes widened.
Then his face crumpled, tears falling harder.
Zlatan quietly closed the folder.
Myles looked at him.
"Enough."
Everyone stopped.
Myles’ voice was calm.
"Get out."
Alexis opened his mouth.
Myles looked at him.
"All of you."
Alexis clicked his tongue.
Estelle gently pulled Tania along.
Zlatan followed.
Alexis was the last to leave, glancing toward Blake before shutting the door.
Silence.
Myles remained beside the bed.
Blake’s breathing was uneven.
Myles leaned down.
He pressed a gentle kiss against Blake’s cheek.
Then wiped away the tears.
And, without hesitation, the little bit of snot that had accompanied them.
"You have to rest now."
Blake stared at him.
"There are..."
His voice was barely audible.
"There are so many things I regret."
Myles froze.
Blake looked toward the ceiling again.
"There were so many things I wanted to tell my family."
His voice shook.
"But..."
He swallowed.
"I forgot."
His eyes closed.
"I don’t remember the words anymore."
A shaky breath escaped him.
"I don’t even know what I wanted to say."
His fingers tightened around the blanket.
A pause.
His voice became smaller.
"I don’t know anymore."
Myles remained silent.
Blake’s fingers moved beneath the blanket.
His hand slowly emerged.
The arm without the IV.
He reached toward Myles.
His fingers trembled.
Myles immediately understood.
He took Blake’s hand.
Blake’s fingers closed weakly around his.
For several seconds, neither of them spoke.
Blake’s breathing gradually slowed.
The beeping beside the bed continued at a steady rhythm.
He wasn’t falling.
