Tempting Him to Lose Control
Chapter 149: Hosting a Table for Her Ex-BoyfriendsChapter 149: Chapter 149: Hosting a Table for Her Ex-Boyfriends
Miles Warren tossed the tissue into the trash, his gaze raking over Felix Warren.
"A broken nose, fractured jaw, deep lacerations on his back. I avoided all the vital spots."
He chuckled softly. "Felix Warren, you should be thankful I’m a doctor."
Victor Warren’s expression shifted. He softened his stance and turned to Louis Warren.
"Dad, Felix just got back from abroad. He doesn’t know the rules. But Miles Warren was clearly trying to kill him! If word of this gets out, how can the Warren family show its face?"
"Heh. And if word gets out that your son was harassing his aunt, the Warren family will have face to show?"
"You..." Victor Warren was speechless, his eyes darkening. "How can you compare a woman’s trifles with a man’s life?"
"Enough! Stop arguing!" Louis Warren barked. His cloudy eyes, heavy with pressure, fell upon Miles Warren.
In the solemn silence, Miles Warren rose and slowly walked over to Victor Warren, stopping before him. His voice dripped with sarcasm.
"If you really cared so much about the Warren family’s reputation, you wouldn’t have done something so full of holes."
Miles Warren opened the bag in his hand and unhurriedly pulled out a stack of documents: the medical records and lab reports for the eight-month-old infant girl, detailing her medication.
"That nurse, I’ve already found her."
A single sentence made a vein on Victor Warren’s forehead throb violently.
Louis Warren frowned, not understanding. "What nurse?"
"The ICU nurse from the infant’s medical malpractice death. Victor Warren bribed her to inject a contaminant into the baby’s medicine to frame me."
"That nurse... Absolutely impossible!"
"Why is it impossible? Because you gave her a ten-million-dollar fortune in hush money?"
Miles Warren said sarcastically, "Anything that can be done with money, I can do by spending more."
"Victor, is what he’s saying true?" Louis Warren slammed his cane on the floor.
"Dad, it’s not like he says..."
"Then what is it like? Were you involved in the infant girl’s case or not!"
Seeing Victor Warren’s silence, Louis Warren understood most of it. He turned to Miles Warren and questioned him coldly.
"So, what do you want?"
Miles Warren casually tossed the evidence onto the hospital bed.
"My terms are simple. Declare my renunciation of inheritance null and void. As of today, all pharmaceutical companies under the Warren Group are under my management."
Victor Warren shot his head up, refusing. "No!"
The pharmaceutical sector was the industry that built the Warren Group. It had declined in recent years, but it was still an indispensable part of the company.
’Give one of those important "limbs" to Miles Warren?’
Miles Warren’s eyes were icy, his tone leaving no room for negotiation.
"You can refuse. But tomorrow, the headline ’Warren Group CEO Murders Infant’ will be on every major app. I’m very curious to see who folds first—me, or the Warren Group."
"You..." Victor Warren was so angry his hands were shaking.
He had calculated every possibility, but he never imagined that Miles Warren would voluntarily ask to return to the Warren Group.
Even Claire Kendall, standing beside him, was slightly stunned. She looked up at the man next to her.
’He wants to go back to the company? Isn’t that the place he despises most?’
After a moment of silence, Louis Warren sighed heavily. "Fine. We’ll do it your way."
"But you must bury this matter with the infant girl. Let it rot inside you. Don’t let it affect Felix."
Miles Warren didn’t reply. He took Claire Kendall’s hand and left the hospital room.
Outside the hospital, he pulled Claire Kendall into the car.
She asked softly, "Why the sudden decision to go back to the company? Don’t you hate it there? And what about your work at the hospital..."
Miles Warren started the car calmly.
"I’ll make arrangements at the hospital. I’ll only handle the more difficult and complex surgeries."
"As for the company," the man glanced at her, his gaze deep. "I just felt like going back. A change of work might be nice."
"Let’s go to Wallace Sutton’s place and deliver the qipao."
The car stopped in front of the Wallace Apparel office building.
Having just set up in Aethel, its scale wasn’t large, but the decor was new and radiated an unstoppable vitality.
An assistant saw Miles Warren and immediately led them into a VIP reception room.
Wallace Sutton adjourned his meeting midway and hurried over.
He looked at the brocade box on the table, excited and grateful. "Thank you, thank you so much, Dr. Warren, Ms. Kendall. You two are too kind. For something this small, I could have just gone and picked it up myself."
Claire Kendall quickly shook her head and waved her hands, her face full of respectful gratitude.
"Mr. Sutton, please don’t say that. A few days ago, when something went wrong at the OCHH new product launch, it was all thanks to you lending a hand. I haven’t even had the chance to thank you properly. How about I treat you to a simple dinner tonight?"
"No need to thank me, no need. If it weren’t for Mr. Warren being willing to..."
...willing to let Wallace lease over twenty landmark properties on Wall Street for free for a year. No matter how much he valued their relationship, he wouldn’t have made such a loss-making deal to "save OCHH."
Wallace Sutton started to say subconsciously.
Miles Warren gave a pointed cough, and after a quick glance at him, Wallace Sutton immediately changed his tune.
"Dr. Warren? What about him?" Claire Kendall had been listening intently, her face filled with confusion.
"If it weren’t for—" Wallace Sutton drew out his words, "the life-saving grace Dr. Warren showed my mother. It’s a small thing, I had to help where I could."
Wallace Sutton deliberately changed the subject.
"Oh, the design world has been quite turbulent recently. Ms. Kendall, aside from things here in Aethel, you should also be wary of a certain design company over in Quillmore."
"I heard they were taken down about three months ago. The heir to the Sinclair Group personally flew over. They’re also trying to claw their way back from a low point, and their situation is much worse than OCHH’s."
’Quillmore? The Sinclairs?’
At those two keywords, Miles Warren’s eyes lowered. His fingers, resting on his knee, subconsciously began to stroke the ring on his ring finger.
Claire Kendall’s brow furrowed slightly. "Taken down?"
"Yeah. No idea who it was, but they must have some incredible power. The Sinclair Group’s business in Quillmore collapsed overnight. I wouldn’t believe it if someone said there was no foul play," Wallace Sutton said, clicking his tongue in amazement.
"Oh—" Claire Kendall drew out the sound, her brow arching slightly as she cast a subtle, sidelong glance at Miles Warren.
She asked a couple more questions. "I haven’t kept up with the situation over there for a long time. How is the Sinclair Group doing now?"
"They should be doing alright. The Sinclair heir might be coming back."
Miles Warren poured a cup of tea, his expression still calm and indifferent, but the intense jealousy and possessiveness in his eyes were about to overflow.
Wallace Sutton sensed that the atmosphere had turned a bit strange and quickly fell silent.
"Let’s go back," Miles Warren said, suddenly standing up.
Claire Kendall politely said goodbye to Wallace Sutton and followed behind Miles Warren.
His jawline was tight, and his pace was much faster than when they arrived.
"Hey, wait for me... OOF—" Claire Kendall ran into his back, her nose stinging with pain.
Miles Warren immediately cupped her face to check on her, then just as quickly let go when he saw she was fine.
She reached out and poked his side. "What are you so angry about?"
He stared down at her, his voice low.
"Claire Kendall, let’s get married."
