Chapter 109: Chapter 109: The Coveted Villa

Kevin Keane looked at Luna Dawson, who still seemed a bit groggy from sleep. He took off his scarf and wrapped it around her neck, then reached out to pull it up, covering most of her cheeks.

Luna sniffled and whispered, "Thank you."

Jack Palmer hurried over. "I’m so sorry, Miss Dawson. We’ve disturbed everyone."

Evan Olson was talking to the military officer. The officer then walked over to Luna and extended his hand. "Hello, Miss Dawson. From now on, I’ll be in charge of the security and zoning for the surrounding villa areas. My name is Finn Pierce."

Luna’s gaze shifted to the man. He appeared to be in his thirties, tall and lean. Even in his thick winter military uniform, she could make out the well-proportioned, subtle muscle definition hidden beneath the fabric. With his fair complexion and refined, relaxed features, his entire being exuded a gentle, scholarly air. Yet, hidden within this scholarly demeanor was an inviolable, awe-inspiring sense of righteousness.

The crisp winter uniform made his posture look even more composed. His extended hand had prominent knuckles, and the palm was covered in thick calluses—clearly the result of years of handling firearms.

Luna smiled in response and shook his hand. "Hello, I’m Luna Dawson. What’s going on here?"

Before Finn could answer, the chubby man nimbly pushed Jack aside and squeezed his way to the front. With a blatant look of wanting to cause trouble, he scanned the people present before locking his eyes on Luna and Finn.

"Captain Pierce, my request isn’t unreasonable, is it? After all, you were the ones begging my entire family to come to the base. You talked such a good game back then, but now you won’t even give us a decent villa?" He held his head high, his nose pointed at the sky, and his arms crossed over his chest.

Leon Sterling initially only wanted to use his father’s status to make a scene and see if he could bully his way into the villa area. Now that he saw such a beautiful girl living next door, his desire to move in grew even stronger.

A villa? Luna was a little confused. She thought, "I paid for this house in full with my own hard-earned money! According to the base’s requirements, I even have to pay residential management fees every month. I have all the documents, ID cards, and fee payment vouchers to prove it!"

Finn looked equally exasperated, his brow furrowed. "Leon Sterling, this is someone else’s property! The house has complete documentation and procedures. Making a scene and acting like a rascal won’t change anything. Everything must follow the base’s regulations!"

Meeting Luna’s confused gaze, he explained, "Villa 102 next to yours is empty, and he’s making a fuss about wanting to move in. I’m sorry for the disturbance!"

Luna instantly understood. This guy had his eyes on her farmhands’ house!

After the base stabilized, the population in the villa area experienced massive shifts. Those who had been squatting or borrowing places were forced to move out. Furthermore, over half of the original owners couldn’t afford the villa management fees. They sold their villas entirely to the base in exchange for a massive amount of points and living rights in regular apartment buildings, leaving them with plenty of points to support their families.

Lately, the endless stream of people moving in and out had been a grand spectacle. Many of the base’s leaders had moved into Dragon Lake. The situation in the neighboring Aurelia and Aromas Peak Villa Districts was largely the same. After all, even if you owned a house, you couldn’t necessarily afford its upkeep. Currently, Villa 102 was indeed the only empty unit left in the Dragon Lake Villa Area.

But even if it was empty, no one else had the right to covet it! She had paid for it out of her own pocket with Crystal Cores, and the farmhands worked for her. Ergo, that villa was effectively hers!

Her face immediately darkened. Her fiercely protective instincts flared up, and she made up her mind to guard her property at all costs.

Jack was also deeply embarrassed. He tugged at Leon’s arm, trying to drag him away. However, the man was quite heavy; Jack pulled a few times but couldn’t really budge him.

"Mr. Sterling, if you have any issues, let’s go to the District Three Command Center to discuss them. Coming here to make a scene is completely unreasonable. It would be the same even if your father were here."

Leon continued loudly, "Why don’t you think about the fact that my dad is in that house with no heating and no electricity! Our whole family is relying on the two or three electric blankets and the charcoal you issued to stay warm. If he doesn’t get enough rest or gets sick from the cold, how is he supposed to do his research?!"

Hearing this, Luna realized what was going on. It was yet another person with a powerful background. She had noticed lately that Kensington was truly crawling with well-connected big shots. Nowadays, any random clerk or supply distributor turned out to be so-and-so’s relative.

She silently pulled a handful of sunflower seeds from her pocket and started cracking them. "You guys continue. I’m bored anyway."

Finn looked at the unreasonable Leon, then glanced at Luna, who was clearly enjoying the show. His perfectly maintained, refined expression was on the verge of cracking.

Seeing that the woman in front of him completely disregarded him, Leon flew into a rage. "Are you looking down on me?! Do you believe I’ll have my dad ruin you?!"

Luna remained expressionless. "I believe it. Go on, let your dad ruin me."

Leon hadn’t expected Luna to not lose her temper at all, and for a moment, he didn’t know how to retort. Turning to see Finn’s ugly expression, he chose to yell at Jack instead. "I don’t care! I’m going to live in Villa 102! My dad might have a good temper, but I don’t!"

Jack pointed out, "So many people are still living in makeshift prefab housing by the wall. Your family lives in a garden apartment on a low floor with three bedrooms and a living room. That’s already one of the best houses the Research Institute has to offer."

"Is this how you treat the families of the zombie virus researchers?! You’re just going to brush me off like this?!"

Leon’s demeanor was unbelievable; he looked exactly like a bristling porcupine.

Luna couldn’t help but laugh out loud.

"What are you laughing at?!" Leon barked.

Luna answered honestly, "Laughing at you."

Leon swept his gaze around, looking at the group of people who clearly didn’t take him seriously. His eyes finally locked onto Luna’s petite figure. Rage completely clouded his judgment, and he lunged at her! His figure moved so rapidly it left an afterimage.

Oh, he was a Speed System Superpower User.

Leon thought maliciously, "Surrounded by all these big, burly men, my only option is to grab this woman by the throat to show them I’m not to be trifled with!"

Luna had previously drunk the upgraded spirit spring water. Right now, Leon’s rapid sequence of movements looked as clear as a slow-motion replay to her. Her eyes turned cold. Just as she was about to raise her leg and kick him away, Kevin Keane, who was standing beside her, struck instantly.

His left hand shot out like lightning, accurately clamping down on the neck of the charging Leon. With just one hand, he lifted the man into the air as easily as picking up a helpless little chick!

Jack and Finn’s hearts skipped a beat, their faces full of disbelief. They thought, "The files clearly stated that Luna is the only Dual System Superpower User in this household. How does this man with a Thunder System superpower possess such terrifying physical strength?"

Although Leon wasn’t tall, he easily weighed over eighty kilograms. On top of that, he was a Speed System Superpower User, yet he was being effortlessly held mid-air by his throat!

Kevin’s grip tightened slightly. Leon’s feet left the ground, his limbs flailing uselessly. The color quickly drained from his face, gradually turning a bruised purple.

He was filled with absolute horror. He thought, "I used my full strength to sprint at close range with my Tier-One Speed System superpower, yet he predicted my move and caught me dead to rights!"

In just a second or two, the pressure on his neck grew heavier, and his lungs could draw in less and less oxygen. What chilled him to the bone even more was the terrifying, murderous intent radiating from Kevin, tightly enveloping him!

Seeing this, Finn and Jack hurriedly stepped forward to intervene. "Please, show some mercy! We’re so sorry about this, but let him go first! We can talk things out calmly!"

Luna turned her head to look at Leon suspended in the air, then reached out and gently tugged on Kevin’s sleeve.

Getting the message, Kevin loosened his grip. Leon collapsed onto the ground like a dead dog, sprawling on the floor and gasping heavily for air. The look in his eyes as he stared up at Kevin was now filled with sheer terror!
