Chapter 115: Chapter 115: Seeing Susan Vaughn Again

While Stan Stone was racking his brains early in the morning to recruit High-level Superpower Users, a scene unfolded inside the bathroom of a house in the Sixth District of the base. Susan Vaughn clenched her fists, her nails almost digging into her palms. Her expression was exceedingly dark.

"Dammit, dammit, dammit! Ron Rivers is a complete loser!" Susan stomped her feet angrily in front of the mirror. Gripping her toothbrush tightly, her nails dug fiercely into its handle.

As soon as they returned to the Kensington Base, Ron Rivers and Luke Locke went to see Raymond Rivers, the District Chief of the Sixth District. But Ron—the moment he went in, he broke free from her influence and told Luke to get lost, insisting on forming his own Superpower User squad. This ruined her chances of ever getting close to Luke again, making it impossible for her to win over that powerful man! She had clearly been guiding him to make Luke stay, yet his willpower resisted exceptionally strongly.

And that old geezer, Raymond Rivers, was heavily on guard. He didn’t even let her see him once; it was hard enough just trying to serve him a glass of water! He even had his guards come to warn her, telling her to just quietly be a good girlfriend and not cause any trouble. Could Luke Locke have said something to him?! He wouldn’t even allow Ron to bring her back to live in the Aurelia Villa District, forcing her to hole up in this small three-bedroom apartment in the Sixth District.

Over the past half-month or so, she had accompanied Ryan Rivers in recruiting many Superpower Users. Ryan had also managed to trick his father into giving him one hundred Water-type Crystal Cores, allowing her to smoothly upgrade to a Second Order Superpower! Overflowing with confidence, they named their squad the Eternity Squad and led twenty-seven members toward the Containment Zone. They had intended to make a name for themselves in one battle and impress Raymond Rivers and the entire base!

Unexpectedly, Ryan was incompetent and gave blind commands. He completely ignored the advice of the team’s strongest member, the Second Order Thunder System Superpower User, Ken Vance. Before they could even charge into the hospital, they had lost half of their members! Their squad had six Second Order Superpower Users, yet upon encountering that mutated plant, they were beaten into a hasty retreat in no time! Fortunately, Ken reacted quickly, carrying her on his back and running downstairs, escorting her all the way back to the safe zone.

She had barely escaped with her life, only to face Raymond’s accusations! Somehow, the fact that she had abandoned her teammates had already spread. This kind of embarrassing scandal involving a second-generation official spread like wildfire. Since they escaped yesterday, almost everyone in the Seventh District knew about it! What embarrassed her even more was that many people she ran into actually mocked her both openly and covertly to her face, insinuating that she was a vixen who failed to cling to the powerful and ended up dragging Ron down instead.

But that wasn’t even the most detestable part! Ron’s father, Raymond Rivers, didn’t even ask a single question before directly ordering his subordinates to disband the Eternity Squad! Didn’t this let all those onlookers know that Raymond disapproved of her?! Now, she could only squeeze into this small apartment. After all, renting a villa cost a lot of Crystal Cores, which she couldn’t afford.

Susan took a deep breath, suppressing the humiliation and resentment in her heart. She was burning with anxiety. There was no way she could latch onto Luke Locke; the man was now the Commander-in-Chief of the Special Operations Department and had never even looked her in the eye. Francis Grant and several other second-generation officials were even harder to track down; she didn’t even have a chance to meet them. But she absolutely couldn’t just sit around waiting for her demise!

A ruthless glint flashed in Susan’s eyes, her fingertips trembling slightly. Her superpower had not fully matured yet; she needed to rely on someone else’s protection to establish a firm foothold in the apocalypse. Ron was no longer someone she could count on. He was still trapped in the Ninth District, his fate unknown. She had to quickly find her next target to manipulate—someone powerful enough who could be firmly controlled by her superpower!

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK.

There was a knock on the bathroom door. Susan hurriedly put down her toothbrush, adjusted her expression in the mirror to put on a heartbroken, fragile look, and opened the door.

"Brother Kevin?"

Ken Vance held a bouquet of mutated flowers and handed them to Susan. For some reason, ever since he saw Susan during the squad recruitment, he couldn’t help but pay attention to her, unable to extricate himself. However, she was the captain’s girlfriend, and he was only the vice-captain. He couldn’t do anything despicable.

"I saw these flowers blooming brightly in the buffer zone of the Eighth District, so I picked some to put in your room to cheer you up." His gaze toward Susan was very gentle, afraid that she might think he wasn’t doing enough.

Susan walked over and took the flowers, smoothly grasping his hand. "Ron is still trapped in the hospital right now. I really want to rush in and save him!"

If Ron died, she, Susan Vaughn, would have no one to provide for her anymore. She had to find a way to rank up; only then would her Superpower Water be more effective. After all, for Superpower Users of a higher rank than her, drinking her water had very little effect!

Feeling the softness in his palm, Ken’s heart trembled violently. He wondered if Susan could have feelings for him too. He hurriedly replied gently, "Then let’s go to the entrance of the Eighth District and recruit a few more Superpower Users. As long as we have ten people—since I’m at the Second Order Peak now—I have the confidence to rescue him!"

"Okay!" Susan looked back at Ken with sparkling eyes. The two set the bouquet down and headed to the Eighth District to recruit Superpower Users.

---

After Luna Dawson and Stan Stone swiped their ID cards on the portable terminal and successfully accepted the rescue mission, Stan hurriedly rushed back to the Sixth District. He still had to go back and clean up a lot of messes, and also inform the District Chief that several Third-tier Superpower Users had accepted the mission, so he wouldn’t get too anxious. Luna exchanged a few pleasantries with him, and the two waved goodbye. At this time, the others, who had finally finished registering, walked over.

Rhonda Dawson and Nancy Sullivan briefly told everyone about just having accepted a rescue mission. Luna, on the other hand, was full of excitement, happily squatting to the side to feed ice cream to Rollo and Tina.

"What are you thinking about? You’re smiling so hard your face is about to split." Kevin Keane took an ice cream cone and also squatted down to feed Rollo.

"Thinking about a man," Luna replied.

Kevin’s face darkened. "Which man?!"

Luna looked up and smiled sweetly at him. "That Ron Rivers is basically a humanoid Crystal Core. The reward of two thousand First Order Crystal Cores and two hundred and sixty Second Order Crystal Cores must be mine!"

Kevin finally understood, his eyes smiling. "Alright, they’re all yours."

Luna finished feeding the puppies and looked at the siblings, Shane Shaw and Nancy Sullivan. "The mission we accepted is quite dangerous. Will you two and Tina still follow us?"

Nancy looked at Shane. He nodded to his sister; as long as Nancy wanted to go, he would accompany her.

"My brother and I originally wanted to go with everyone to gain some combat experience," Nancy said. "If you don’t mind, of course we want to go together!"

Luna petted Tina and said with a smile, "Alright then, let’s go together. There are a lot of supplies in the hospital. If you follow along and bring some back, it’ll be enough to exchange for quite a few points."

Shane looked at everyone, his tone sincere. "Thank you all for being willing to bring us siblings along."

Aaron Palmer threw an arm around Shane’s shoulder. "What are you thanking us for! We’re all friends!"

Blake Blue also smiled and said, "Alright, let’s look at the map of the Ninth District and get ready to set off."

"Okay!" everyone responded.

Just as Luna was about to bring her car out, a pink figure appeared next to Lynn Shelby. As if sensing something, Luna’s gaze pierced straight through the conversing crowd and looked over there.

The next second, her pupils suddenly contracted—it was a face etched into her very bones and blood across two lifetimes, a face she could never forget!

Susan Vaughn!

It was actually her!

Compared to the way she looked when they met nearly a year into the apocalypse in her previous life, the current Susan Vaughn was obviously doing much better!
