The Apocalypse Took Everything, This Time I Hoard It All First
Chapter 116: Enemies on a Narrow PathChapter 116: Chapter 116: Enemies on a Narrow Path
A pink puffer jacket hugged her curvy, voluptuous figure tightly, and her complexion was unbelievably rosy.
She stepped out of the car, holding a thermos, and walked gracefully toward Lynn Shelby, who was sitting to the side basking in the sun with Little Tiger in his arms.
"Damn it, what a professional people-pleaser!" Luna Dawson spat viciously in her mind.
In her past life, she always saw this woman pouring tea and fetching water everywhere to curry favor with others. Now, in this life, a water bottle was still glued to her hand. She must have had incredibly rotten luck in her previous life to have run into her!
Having only gone on two missions with her—the first resulted in Little Tiger losing its life, and the second implicated several Superpower Users who died tragic deaths. This woman was a literal jinx! Fortunately, that mutated Komodo dragon had appeared right on time back then, giving her a chance for revenge.
At that time, Luna’s superpower was weak, while Susan Vaughn always had a steady stream of powerful Superpower Users protecting her. Exacting revenge was next to impossible. Her mind was consumed by a single thought: even if it meant mutual destruction, she had to avenge Little Tiger!
When they had finally scrambled onto the military truck to retreat and it suddenly sped up to escape, she seized the opening. She grabbed Susan in a death grip and jumped out of the vehicle, dragging them both tumbling toward the mutated Komodo dragon...
Rhonda Dawson and Nancy Sullivan stood nearby. Seeing Luna staring unblinkingly in Lynn’s direction, they were startled in the next second by the intense killing intent and bloodthirsty excitement that suddenly erupted from her. Even the two little dogs squatting on the ground were so terrified by this dreadful aura that they instantly sat up straight. They bared their fangs warily in the direction Luna was staring, their fur puffing up all over.
"W-W-What’s wrong?"
Nancy had never seen Luna like this. Even during their first encounter, Luna had merely flown into a rage and beaten people up. She had never been like this, with eyes that looked as if they were going to shoot fire. In her memory, the Luna she met later was always enthusiastic and lively, always in a good mood whenever they saw each other.
Rhonda had also never imagined that Luna could erupt with such intense killing intent. "Luna, what do you see?"
The corners of Luna’s mouth curled up. "I saw a woman. I’m very interested in her."
"A woman? Interested? What kind of alpha-male CEO line is that?" Nancy asked.
"Interested? I think you want to kill someone," Rhonda said, curiously peeking over. "A woman in a pink puffer jacket is heading toward Lynn..."
Luna walked over, silently watching to see what the woman was trying to do.
On Lynn’s side, he was happily holding Little Tiger, letting it step on the snowflakes on the outdoor stool for fun. Little Tiger let out two happy cries, "MEOW! MEOW!"
He quickly coaxed it gently, "Oh, baby! Little sweetie, even stepping on a snowflake is so cute."
As soon as Susan arrived at the entrance of the Eighth District, she had spotted these people. Each of them was well-built and fully equipped. Even Chief Rivers’s special forces lacked the imposing aura these people had. One look was enough to tell they were no ordinary bunch!
She hurriedly prepared her steeped herbal tea. Now that she was a Second Order Water Superpower User, as long as they drank her water, she was eighty percent confident she could bring them under her command!
Lynn was pouring his heart and soul into praising Little Tiger when he heard a gentle female voice sound beside him.
"Excuse me, sir, which combat team are you from?"
Lynn frowned, shifting his gaze away from Little Tiger in his arms, and looked up to ask, "Are you asking me?"
As Lynn looked up, Susan forgot all the recruiting pitches she had prepared.
This man’s beauty was utterly androgynous!
Susan’s eyes widened as she stared up at his face. An extreme urge to possess the man before her surged in her heart! She had always considered herself a great beauty, but in front of him, she paled in comparison, momentarily forgetting to reply.
He had an intensely cool, pale complexion, with fine, flawless skin that appeared even more translucent and radiant against the backdrop of the vast snowy landscape. His nose was tall and delicate, and the brightly colored mole on it added an indescribable charm, giving his beauty a unique layer of recognizability. He didn’t look feminine, nor did he have the roughness of ordinary men. Instead, he exuded a breathtaking, flawlessly clean allure.
"I... I... I wanted to..." Susan stammered, unable to form a complete sentence for a long while, her eyes darting between Miles Dawson, Kevin Keane, and the others chatting nearby.
Lynn turned to look at her with deep impatience, his face clearly reading that she’d better have a good reason for bothering him. "Out with it."
Choked by his cold words, Susan instantly snapped back to reality. She asked softly, her voice as sweet as honey, "May I ask if you all have a combat team yet?"
Luna had already stepped forward. Her body radiated irrepressible excitement, and her fingers even trembled slightly, but her voice was freezing cold. "No, we don’t. Why?"
"And who might you be? I was asking them." Susan asked in a drawn-out, soft tone, her eyes filled with the cautious fear of being bullied by Luna. Her expression made it look as though Luna had done something terrible to her.
"She’s my boss," Aaron Palmer said.
"She’s my sister! Do you have a problem?" Miles Dawson asked at the exact same time.
"Boss? Pfft..." Hearing this, Susan covered her mouth and giggled. "I’m sorry, I just thought you guys were teammates." After saying that, she even blinked coquettishly at Aaron.
Luna wanted to see what kind of tricks this woman had up her sleeve. "They are all my people. What about it?"
"Your people? But he said you were just their boss." She covered her mouth as she spoke, looking a little embarrassed as if she had just exposed someone’s lie.
Luna said, "They signed a lifelong servitude contract."
Everyone was speechless.
Kevin Keane was very tactful. "Yes, whatever the little boss says is right."
Aaron unceremoniously fired back at Susan, "Are your eyes cramping or something? Why were you blinking at me like that?"
Listening to their familiar banter, Susan’s face stiffened. She quickly collected herself, poured a cup of water from the camper van parked nearby, and held it out to Blake Blue, who was the closest to her.
Putting on a humble, pleading expression, she said, "It’s really cold out. Please, have some water. On behalf of the Sixth District’s officials, I’d like to thank everyone for bravely coming to the Containment Zone to participate in the clearing operation."
Blake took a step back, completely ignoring her, as if afraid that some filth might rub off on him.
Luna rolled her eyes, cursing inwardly, "Damn it, why is she always serving water? She wants every living soul to drink her water!"
"Huh? Wait a minute?! Could it be?!" Luna thought in sudden realization. She asked coldly, "What is your superpower?"
"Well, big sister, I have a Second Order Water superpower." She spoke with a hint of smugness. These words not only showed that she was a Superpower User but also that she represented the Sixth District. She had plenty of trump cards to suppress the other party and poach their people.
Before Luna could say anything, Nancy, who had walked over with Rollo and Tina, burst into laughter.
"Auntie, you look so old. Aren’t you ashamed to be calling her ’big sister’?"
"Pfft!"
"Haha."
"Nancy’s got a great eye!"
Everyone present burst out laughing, offering their praises. As soon as this woman had opened her mouth, they had felt she was up to no good.
That single "auntie" shattered Susan’s defenses. She was only twenty-two years old!
Susan’s face darkened. In a fit of pique, she forcefully slammed the thermos in her hand onto the stone table next to Lynn. The loud BANG startled the people nearby who were preparing to head to the registration gate, causing them all to look over.
