Chapter 118: Chapter 118: Several Kinds of Superpowers

Luna Dawson smiled at the group. She had never been happier than she was today—she had finally reunited with Susan Vaughn at Kensington Base.

As the off-road vehicle rolled forward, Blake Blue pulled out his ID card and swiped it over the entrance scanner. A soft BEEP chimed before the heavy alloy gates slowly ground open, granting the group entry into the Eighth District.

Shortly after entering, a quarantine zone stretching across their entire field of vision came into view. It was hundreds of meters wide, acting as a defensive buffer clearly blasted open by heavy artillery fire beforehand.

Behind them, a colossal reinforced concrete wall over twenty meters tall wound into the distance like a giant python, completely severing the Eighth and Ninth Districts from the now-unsealed Seventh District. The barrier’s surface was still marred by the charred remnants of artillery strikes, giving it a grim, imposing presence.

The quarantine zone was in utter ruins, with chunks of concrete and twisted rebar scattered everywhere. The edges of countless craters left by artillery shells were glazed with glass-like substances formed by extreme heat, emitting a faint burnt odor. Aside from a narrow main passage cleared through the center, mottled black stains were visible all over the surrounding areas. These were the silhouettes left behind after human bodies had been vaporized by extreme heat, silently telling the tale of the tragic slaughter that had taken place here.

Tens of thousands of corpses lay scattered at the base of the wall separating the Containment Zone. They were piled layer upon layer, radiating outward from the wall toward the restricted area. Frozen into ice sculptures by the bitter cold, they exuded an eerie, macabre beauty.

While the rest of the group marveled at the sight upon entering, Nancy Sullivan quietly turned and hugged Shane Shaw. Having lived in the villa district this whole time, she had never truly witnessed a zombie horde; her only combat experience came from clearing out the stragglers in their neighborhood. This harrowing scene finally forced open her eyes to the true reality of the apocalypse, making her realize that it had always been her brother holding their family together.

Kevin Keane coldly swept his gaze over the scene outside the window. He pulled out a pre-printed map of Kensington and marked the base’s current location, circling over twenty resource points in red within the major sealed areas.

"The Ninth District International Hospital is nearly fifty kilometers away from here. Miles, you sit in the front and navigate," Kevin said, handing the map to Miles Dawson.

Miles took the map, fully stepping into his role as a human GPS. "Got it. We’ll run over any zombie below the Third Rank on the way and head straight for our destination."

Looking at the ruined walls and debris outside the window, Nancy asked with a trace of worry, "What if Ron Rivers is already dead?"

Luna calmly held up a photograph of Ron and distributed copies to the group. "If he’s dead, I’ll bring his corpse back for Chief Rivers! I can just charge him half price when the time comes!"

Everyone was speechless.

Shane glanced toward the back of the car and frowned. Several teams had followed them into the Containment Zone. "We’ve got a few tails. Should we shake them off?"

Evan Olson looked up. "We’re heading straight to the Ninth District. Let them follow if they want."

The vehicle continued down the roads of the Eighth District. Along the way, the group gradually noticed something strange: whenever a zombie came within a ten-meter radius of their vehicle, it was as if someone had pressed the pause button. The creatures froze in place, completely immobilized, unable to take another step.

Luna had her eyes closed, a faint smile on her lips. "Little Sweet Potato," she called out softly.

The sweet potato ring on her finger immediately reacted. Its pale purple leaves trembled gently as they unfurled, looking just like they had just woken up. After affectionately rubbing against her fingertip in response, the little fellow slowly crawled to the window and nudged it open with a soft CLICK.

The entire sequence of movements was fluid and obedient. In the next second, dozens of pale purple vines suddenly shot out from the ring, slithering in all directions like agile snakes. They moved so fast they were nothing but a blur, precisely and ruthlessly harvesting the surrounding zombies! Even the ones hiding deep within the dilapidated buildings couldn’t escape the vines’ search.

Seeing Little Sweet Potato in action, Rollo and Tina immediately sat on their haunches, letting out eager WHIMPERS. They were anxious and wanted a chance to show off, too.

In an alleyway not far away, a few private combat teams were struggling in a chaotic brawl against scattered zombies.

Suddenly, they felt a fierce gust of wind brush past their ears as a blur of pale purple vines flashed by, accurately piercing the skulls of the roaming undead nearby. A moment later, the previously roaring zombies collapsed to the ground one after another. The noisy environment instantly grew quiet, leaving behind only the fading engine roar of the off-road vehicle and the ragged GROANS of the few struggling zombies still at their feet.

The private combatants stood frozen in place, looking at each other in utter bewilderment. For a moment, no one could process what had just happened.

"Whoa!"

"Is this what absolute domination looks like!?"

Gasps of amazement echoed continuously within the car. Shane, in particular, stared intently at Luna. The girl before him was the same age as his younger sister, yet her strength was unfathomably profound.

They didn’t even have to step out of the vehicle along the way. The small basket next to Rollo was already filled with one or two hundred First and Second Order Crystal Cores, as well as two Third-order Crystal Cores!

"Little Sweet Potato and Rollo are already at the Fourth Rank," Luna said. "Unless something above the Fourth Rank shows up, nothing else is a threat."

She raised her hand and gently pulled aside her face mask, revealing a slightly pale face. Taking out her water bottle, she swallowed a mouthful of spirit spring water to rest and recover. She didn’t dare use her spiritual power anymore; after all, they still had to rescue their mission target later.

Kevin took all of this in. His eyes darkened slightly as his gaze landed on her pale face, a fleeting trace of imperceptible worry flashing in his eyes. "Take it easy, little boss. Does controlling zombies drain a lot of spiritual power?"

Hearing this, the others finally realized the truth: Luna had been the one controlling all those immobilized zombies!

"You can manipulate zombies?!"

"Controlling them?!"

"My sister did that?!"

A flurry of questions erupted all at once.

Luna didn’t hide it. "Yeah, but the range is very limited. It only works within a ten-meter radius, and they have to be below the Second Order."

In reality, Luna had been trying her best to use threads of her spiritual power to strangle the zombies, but despite countless attempts, she just couldn’t make it work. Currently, she could only disrupt the movements of low-level zombies.

Shane could no longer remain calm. There were only four dual-element Superpower Users in the entire base, and it was said that only the Spiritual System Superpower User among them could influence zombies. How could Luna do it too? He wondered, "Is she a triple-element Superpower User?!"

Throughout the entire journey, no one else had lifted a finger except for Luna.

Shane cautiously asked, "Luna, how many superpowers do you... actually have?"

Luna looked at him with amusement. "I only have my Water Ability," she thought to herself, though she obviously couldn’t say that out loud.

"I just have a Space Ability and a Water Ability," she explained instead. "This trick is like projecting my space outward, and having that spatial force act in reverse on the external environment. It consumes an extreme amount of spiritual power and superpower reserves."

Luna continued to spout nonsense. It didn’t matter anyway—none of them would understand it.

Aaron Palmer turned his head, his gaze fervent. "Could Nancy do that too?"

Luna looked at Nancy. "Everyone’s talent is different. Some people’s Space Ability can only be used for storage, others can mutate it into spatial barriers, and some can even wield a Space Blade. It all depends on your own experimentation. The techniques I practice might not necessarily suit you."

Nancy gazed at Luna, her eyes sparkling with stars. She felt as though Luna was practically glowing right now! She had never imagined that a Space Ability could be pushed to such limits. In her mind, leveling up a Space Ability only meant being able to store more supplies. The spectacle she had just witnessed completely shattered her preconceptions.
