Chapter 2 - First time using Magic!

Following the easy instructions on the pass, I finally reached the doors labeled as the library in the pass and looked at the massive two door metal door ahead of me. When I thought about how to enter the place, I felt a tugging sensation from the pass in my hand.

Then the pass violently jerked out of my hand and pasted upon the massive metal doors. Then the doors opened to a rather grand library full of dust.

Coughing from the sudden rush of dust floating in the air, I saw that the pass returned to my side at one point. I guess as a location with magic books the library should be well protected.

Looking around, I found a button on the wall that when the dust was brushed off had the label of 'clean' on it. I pressed it and watched as a hatch opened from above the room and released more dust. Then a sharp vacuuming sound came from the top and quickly cleared the air of most of the dust and debris.

Seeing the cleaner surroundings, I finally gave a sigh and then first sensed the library for magic particles.

Although it was a little harder due to the current state that the library was in, I was able to finally concentrate and indeed the books here had particles attached to them. What I noticed is that some of the magic particles were not clung onto books. Namely the powers of Time and Fate.

I guess that makes sense that those magic books would not be around since the element is already so rare. But surprisingly, Space magic was actually present. It was not as abundant as the other elements even the composite ones, but their presence made me rather happy.

According to the introduction of the various elements, the composite elements and Light and Darkness were all at a level higher than the basic elements. This is not because the basic elements could not compete, but the magic made using those elements have a higher effect with a smaller cost in mana.

This is because the composite elements fuse different elements to make reactions larger than the individual pieces. Light and Dark are different as they are mostly the racial exclusive to Humans and Demons. There are other races that can use it, but they are more so bloodline abilities rather than magic that can be constantly iterated and developed.

But above all of those are the three most primordial elements. It is said that Space is king when not in the presence of Time and that Fate is beyond the constraints of both. That is not to say any of these three elements is above the others, but the spells of space have more practicality and value while time affects all elements first. Fate is the most abnormal as the range and conditions of its magic are all dependent on outside aspects. Because of this, even the weakest Fate magic user can still cause some crazy effects at the right time.

With all of that said, since Space is all that is available then it is what I should focus on.

There are also other categories of spells like nature and mind, but space should still be my priority for now. It provides me with strong escape capabilities while also having top tier offense and defense even at a low level.

Because of this, I first looked for the book with the least amount of space particles around it. I then found three books that each had its own set of knowledge.

There is one called An Introduction on Space, Spatial Sensing 101, and Void Eye Sensation.

I obviously started with the Introduction on Space as it would lead me to learning space magic. Reading through the first few pages, it just reiterated what was on the introduction on magic as a whole so I easily skimmed through it. Where it got interesting was in sensing spatial particles.

According to the author, sensing spatial particles is actually quite difficult due to how illusive the particles are. Even though it says that, I could clearly recall easily sensing the particles in the air when I started sensing it. Just to make sure I was feeling it right, I went to meditation and indeed easily sensed the spatial particle. Then I went on to the next section which was on how to attract the spatial mana.

Reading through all of the book seriously, when I confirmed I could recite the knowledge I read, I started following what it said.

For me though, the difficulties that were spoken of in the book were once again disregarded. When I mentally started trying to attract the spatial element, I could sense the element hopping in joy and heading right to me. I kept staying in that situation until all of the free spatial elements in the room were gone.

Opening my eyes I quickly looked into my status screen for confirmation of what I guessed.

Status Screen

Name: Alice Mir Devir

Title: Daughter of the Demon King, Reincarnated One

Race: Demon

Level: 3

Magic: Dark magic (1), Space Magic (2)

Skill: Reading (1), Etiquette (1), Appraisal (1)

I was quite surprised that I had already exceeded my level in Dark Magic by just absorbing that much mana. Since that is what the screen said, I checked the book on leveling the magic.

After reading the conditions for leveling up, I found that I most likely reached one of the conditions that was called mana capacity.

There are three main ways in which magic levels up. First is through having thorough knowledge on the subject. Then there is through proficiency with an element. Then there is the way I did which is through mana supplication.

The third way is a sort of cheat method where the level increases based on the amount of that element of mana in the body. This is the way many magic beast go through and also the reason why they can release powerful attacks of their element without full knowledge of the element themselves.

As a person, I should not continue along this path. Since there is so much ready made knowledge, I should just focus on learning till my proficiency with the element and knowledge catches up with my mana capacity.

So I decided to shelve meditation for now. Well, meditating without absorbing mana anyways.

Reading through the introduction on space, I had a clearer understanding on how this series of spells works. I then found that the most important book for me is actually Spatial Sensing 101.

As a precise and dangerous series of spells, space requires an exceptionally accurate hand in magic control which is aided by the most powerful type of perception among regular magics known as Spatial sensing.

There are other spells that can compete in depth of perception, but none can compare with space in terms of range and practicality.

With this new body, I found that I was able to easily remember anything that I looked at so I first skimmed through the book with my eyes before analyzing all the information I found in my head.

This process took a few hours, but it saved me days of studying and research in the long term.

With that confirmed, I started with the most important spell for spatial mages, Spatial sensing.

Like what I did just now, I first skimmed through the book with my eyes before studying it in my head. When I thought the I had a good grasp on the theory of the spell I started with trying it for real.

Thankfully this spell was a perception based one so I was able to test it in the library. Still, I went to a more open and less cluttered area to test in case my mana went wild. Standing in the middle of the area, I first reviewed every step of the process in my head. After I finished, I took it step by step and tried casting the spell.

Unfortunately, the first time casting had failed. I already knew this element would be difficult to use though so I kept trying.

It was not until an hour later that I finally was able to cast the spell properly. Due to my affinity with the element, I could sense the spatial particles trying to correct my spells each time so I simply followed it to the conclusion. Since this spell is so important for space mages, I decided that I would keep trying this spell for today.

Rather than a rough mastery over each spell, I wanted to fully understand this magic and element to its fullest. While the spell may not look all that impressive, the sensation it gave me felt quite magical.

Playing around with the spell the rest of the day, time passed as the guard came to the library to serve me dinner. After practicing all this today I was starting to get the hang of it to the point I could successfully cast the spell without the aid of the elements with a 100% guarantee in casting.

I was getting a little tired from all of that casting so I headed back to my room under the secret watch of the guards nearby.

I knew this because of my new spatial sensing capabilities. There is a reason this spell is so famed among all perception magic as the stealth capabilities of the guards were all seen through by me just starting already.

What I did not know at the time was that it was my affinity with the element that let the spatial element work at 200% capacity and even thoughtfully cloak the spell for me so the guards could not notice. For any other space mage at the early levels, this level of capabilities would have been easily seen through by these guards.

After all, they were guards for protecting me, the daughter of the Demon King.

Laying in my room, I quickly fell fast asleep eagerly awaiting the next day.

When the sun arose on this day, I quickly sprang to life and washed up. Then after eating the breakfast provided for me, I quickly headed back to the library to increase my proficiency with my spatial sensing.

After another day of training it, the sensing had reached an unimaginable level of precision and ease. I was able to train it to the point I could passively sense space. Looking through the book, I saw no mention of the spell becoming a passive, but it still works.

Confirming that this passive was indeed correctly spatial sensing, I decided to look into the lats spell in this beginner space magic set.

Void Eye is actually a spell that is generally less functional than my spatial sensing. The spell creates a sort of camera eye that allows me to see things at a distance. I can attach the camera to specific places and sense through it even if I am nowhere close by. The unfortunate thing is that like a camera, I can only sense what the eye itself is looking at so I knew that I should just know it enough to use it before heading to the next spell.

That didn't even require a few hours since I had already mastered a more powerful spell for perception that this spell was quite easy to learn. I wonder if all spells were like this.

According to the Introduction on Magic, learning your first spell within a week would make you be considered a genius. I guess that makes me a super genius then.

Since I was already at the level of two, I could start learning from the next level of magic books. This set corresponded to the levels of 2-4 so I quickly grabbed all the books that had particles that were originally quite unmoving in my perception that were now flowing like liquid atoms.

Taking them all off of the shelves, I found that many of them corresponded to a specific spell known as the Void Hand and its variants. The spell allows the user to solidify space in an area the shape of the user's limb of preference that can freely move around in space and can be used for experimenting and convenience.

Learning the spell was rather convenient as my Spatial sensing allowed me to easily sense a space equivalent to my hand in size and then expelling other particles to create a spatial hand by manipulating spatial mana the same way the Void Eye was created allowed em to very quickly create a void hand.

Now, to be proficient in this spell, I need to be able to make four of these hands and be able to freely manipulate the hands like the limbs on my body.

This was proving to be rather difficult as unlike the void eyes that only have a limited set of movement capabilities and generally stays in one place, the void hands should be flexible like a real hand yet even more capable since it is detached and can move everywhere.

Maybe it is due to my perception, but the spell looked extra stiff in my eyes. Thus I spent the next week in the library trying to get this one hand to the level of my real hands.
