Chapter 3 - The first battle!
A few weeks had gone by since that day. The day that I came onto this body was this girl's birthday and so about a little more than a month has gone by since I started learning magic. This was my status screen now
Status Screen
Name: Alice Mir Devir
Title: Daughter of the Demon King, Reincarnated One
Race: Demon
Level: 5
Magic: Dark magic (1), Space Magic (4)
Skill: Reading (3), Etiquette (2), Appraisal (5)
In this time, you could see the drastic changes in my various stats in my screen.
The Level section had increased which I learned was because I was learning knowledge so well. Defeating or killing enemies is never the only way to get strong so the level section reflects that with theoretical knowledge being key to helping out growth for me thus far.
Ever since I obtained my Spatial Perception, I have been constantly keeping it on which helped to increase the amount of levels that I had in my Appraisal skills.
I'd at first I was able to just scan the names of others while looking at my own status screen, now I could tell the basic conditions of those I scan and the magic that they nest have an affinity for.
In this time, I have truly mastered my Void Hands capability and have been using it to make life easier for me. Washing my face and hands in the morning has become quite easy as I quite literally do not even have to lift a finger. It also makes it easier to grab books from the bookshelf by simply sensing the book I want and sending a void hand.
It has become so easy that I have decided to master the spell further than what the book said is mastery of it so now I could have eight hands that could each do a different task all at the same time.
Of course, this achievement I have to give some credit to my Spatial sensing as at this point I could do more than simply detect where people are.
Due to the similarities between Void Eye and Spatial perception as well as some of the auxiliary books of this level in the library, I was able to combine both spells so I could see within the range of my spatial perception which has grown to the point it could cover the castle.
Unfortunately, my father seems to have some spatial barriers in place around the periphery of the castle as well within certain rooms like the library. I get it that security is important, but it makes my perception feel like its useless since I could not see through it.
Of course, if I said such a thing to any other space mage out there, I would have been flamed by the amount of contempt and envy they would have of me.
The barrier around the Demon King's castle is nothing short of a masterpiece in anti investigation. Filled with various traps for those who attempted to perceive it. I was simply able to get away with sensing inside the castle because the spatial particles all instinctively helped avoid dangerous areas of their own volition so the security measures never activated upon me. This was something I would only discover much later.
Speaking of discoveries, I found that the library here has a lot of secret effects that you would expect out of a place like this. For example, through my spatial sensing I was able to find a trap door in the library that lead to an underground training facility. It was almost like it was made for me as it would help me study some more destructive effects.
The main thing, though, was that the training ground also had a bunch of buttons that could activate very special effects. Reading through the instruction manual that was kept in a drawer inside the training ground, I knew that this place had a simulated combat effects o I could simulate fighting various different enemies.
What was most important was the fact that there was the numerical data for even other Heroes and Demon Kings within the database for me to try on.
Ever since I learned the Void Hands, I have only ever used the spell for functional purposes. But the thing is that the spell was originally used for offense and defense at mid range. I never had an opportunity to test it, but now that I know of this training ground I can use it to train my combat experience without the threat of actual death.
Setting up my opponent in the device, I first started tame with a simple Horned Rabbit. According to this device, there are levels of enemies for almost every level of strength and this Horned Rabbit happens to be recommended for those at the level of 3-5.
Although I am sure that I can easily kill it with my space magic, I could never be too certain. Maybe I would freeze up in my first taste of true combat?
So a projection of the horned rabbit appeared and once I started the battle the rabbit looked around till it locked eyes with me. Then I easily squashed it with my Void Hands without leaving it a chance to retaliate.
It seems that like I said, the power of space magic is way too overwhelming for this current level of combat. Just to be certain, I tried different environments and fought various foes at this same level of combat and found myself utterly overwhelming to this level of opponent.
In this time, I was more so getting used to using the void hands for combat so when I was done warming up in the various environments I quickly scaled the fighting to fit a level 10.
Now this happens to be a good time to start to explain the different power levels of each level.
Unlike skills that can only reach a limit of ten in level, actual levels go from 1 to 100.
1-10 is the beginner levels and are the levels that beginner kids yearning to be adventurers and the level of regular adult peasants.
11-20 is a different level in terms of strength. At this level, people tend to start actually learning combat skills for combat whether it be magic or skills like swordsmanship.
21-40 is at the level where people would be able to defend a small town alone. Most wild monsters are usually capped at this level do towns have to make sure there is always someone stationed at the town at this level of strength.
41-60 is the level where someone would be considered the main stay at the city level. Many City Lords are at this level and the monster equivalent would be that of a teenage Dragon or a low to mid tier dungeon lord. Dungeons are sort of pocket dimensions where after going through a series of challenges the user would be rewarded. The strongest dungeon lords of small to medium dungeons are at this level like I stated.
61-80 at this level, the person would be at the level of guarding an entire kingdom. This is also the level that many generals of stronger empires would be at. High level dungeon lords would usually cap at this level.
81-90 this level is another stage up even from the other levels so far. Generally at this level, the person would be able to guard even an empire with their strength alone and only the most dangerous of dungeons would be at this level. But there is still one fabled stage above even this one.
90-100 is known as the Hero or Devil level as only the Heroes of legend and Demon Kings of the past have reached this level. Even my dad who has slain a hero has not reached this level of power.
Now that I was facing a level 10 opponent, I knew that if I could face this battle at all, I would be considered at least able to easily slay an ordinary healthy adult human.
My opponent for this level was a strong beast known as the Gray Wolf. It has no special abilities of its own, but it has strong speed for the level and the ability to work in teams using moderate levels of intelligence.
When it was spawned in, it reacted different from the other beasts of a lower level, it immediately laid low and quickly found me whether from scent or other sensing capabilities.
Unlike the other beasts, it was able to sense my first attack and was able to leap and dodge my first punch. Then my subsequent strikes were all rather misshapen and were all dodged with the wolf's flexible body.
Then the wolf rushed towards me to bite me which I was able to sense and prepare to dodge in advance.
The battle became a back and forth as the wolf kept chasing and dodging while I kept escaping while attempting to squash it with my void hands.
Eventually the match ended once I consumed all of my mana and fell prone to the wolf's attack.
When the wolf bit my head, although I could not really feel that pain, my mind could feel that pain as the simulation ended and I sat at the training grounds exhausted.
That battle could have gone better, but at least it showed me where I could improve.
Leaving the grounds, I started looking into it and found several books that I had overlooked in the past because of my pursuit for convenience. With the power and omnipotence of space, there were of course ways to mitigate almost every shortcoming belonging to this magic. The most obvious one was a spell made to match the Void Hand spell that materialized solidified space into weapon shapes for my hand to wield.
There are also ways to turn the hands into weapons, but I think that the form of hands would be more convenient for me to learn in. Especially since I have trained so far into this form.
So the days passed by without a trace as I continuously got stronger and stronger with my various capabilities. I even found some neat tricks in some notebooks from space magic users.
There was a technique where the user cast a layer of distorted space around them that acted as a sort of stealth skill. Unfortunately, my weak ability in this regard led me to getting found and caught be the guards in the castle.
Because of that, now there were a few more guards stationed around to check on me which made me feel relieved and also a little sad. Even when I do something like this he won't show up huh.
In this time, I have been training in the underground training grounds and I have been growing further and further in my capabilities. All of this rapid growth was then pushed to reality once I faced the simulated opponents in the training ground, but that only lead me to getting more fired up to train and grow stronger.
Eventually, the time came and I had finally reached a level where I could easily slay the Gray Wolf.
Using weapons solidified through space and distorting the wolf's vision I was able to get the jump off of him in my first win and after several more attempts I was finally able to land a blow on the wolf even without a surprise attack.
Then I tried other opponents of this same level which led to mixed results. Many of the land opponents without special abilities were done in by my void hands, but those with abilities like poison or in environments other than plain ground made it more difficult to face.
I knew that I could easily slay all of them if I were to focus on leveling to level 5, but that would just prove how incompetent that I am that I could not face normal beasts and people even with my space magic.
So I kept training until I could face any and every foe that the simulation could throw at me at this level.
