When the second-in-command saw that his boss was actually going to let the children go, he opened his mouth to say something. The boss saw this and immediately slapped him across the face.
"Shut your mouth. One more word of nonsense and I’ll kill you."
The second-in-command looked aggrieved. It was so unfair.

Leng Yuan held his wife, rubbing her head with a gentle hand. His voice was soft and raspy. "I’m really okay. Don’t be afraid. When the landslide happened, I managed to grab a tree branch on the side of the slope."
Gu Jiaojiao looked him up and down, and after confirming that Leng Yuan was truly unharmed, she pointed at the traffickers.
"Honey, they were trying to drag me away! They were going to sell me to another man for money."
Leng Yuan’s sharp gaze shot toward them. The trafficker instinctively took a step back, but then, realizing his reaction, he grew furious with embarrassment.
He’d brought so many men with him. ’What the hell is there to be afraid of?’
"Get him! A big, strong guy like that... we could sell him to a family without a man to be their live-in son-in-law. He’d fetch a good price."

Hearing this, the others were instantly intrigued. Looking at Leng Yuan’s face and physique, they knew the price definitely wouldn’t be low.
From a short distance away, listening to the traffickers’ conversation, Gu Jiaojiao felt her entire worldview shatter.

There were eight traffickers in total. The boss and his brother didn’t move; the remaining six charged forward.
Seeing his men rush in, the boss casually pulled a pack of cigarettes from his pocket and lit one. He wasn’t in a hurry to grab Gu Jiaojiao. After all, once they had Leng Yuan, catching Gu Jiaojiao and Xiao Yang would be a simple matter.
He stepped to the side and glanced at his watch, calculating how many minutes it would take his men to capture their target.
The second-in-command stayed by his brother’s side, his eyes darting toward the brawl, a look of eagerness on his face.
The boss glanced at his brother with a helpless expression. "Alright, it’s just one guy this time. You don’t need to get involved. Next time, I promise I’ll let you fight to your heart’s content."
The words had barely left his mouth when one of the six men came flying through the air, kicked by Leng Yuan. He shot past the boss’s face and landed on the ground, spitting up a mouthful of blood.
The boss was completely stunned.
The man who flew by had sheared off half his cigarette, leaving only the smoldering filter still pinched between his fingers.
With a trembling hand, the boss stuck the butt in his mouth and took a hard drag.
He got nothing but air.
