The Exiled Alpha's Human Male Mate.[BL]
Chapter 84: A Wolf That Gave Itself A Name. The wolf blinked, its sharp purple-and-amber eyes fixed on Bryce with an unsettling intelligence that made it impossible to dismiss the creature as nothing more than an animal.
Bryce was still struggling to comprehend what he had just witnessed, his mind caught somewhere between the near-death experience of his transformation and the impossible sight of his own wolf standing freely beside him, when a voice suddenly sounded inside his head.
"Hello, my name is BJJ."
Bryce stared at the wolf, his eyes widening as he slowly began to wonder whether the creature’s intense focus on him was its attempt to communicate.
BJJ? he wondered.
The answer came almost immediately, as though the wolf had heard the thought the instant it formed.
"Bryce Jones Junior."
Bryce’s expression shifted with disbelief. Of everything he had expected from this night, discovering that his wolf had given itself a name was certainly not among them.
He couldn’t decide whether he wanted to laugh at that, or whether the absurdity of it was simply amusing.
He couldn’t help wondering whether it had actually given itself the name or if it had been the Goddess’s doing.
"I gave it to myself," BJJ replied without hesitation. "I like the name."
Bryce could only stare at him blankly, struck by how casually BJJ spoke, as though he hadn’t just been the one to tear himself out of Bryce’s body and leave him convinced he was about to die, and before Bryce could even decide what to make of the absurdity, BJJ spoke again.
"I need to hunt for us."
"No hunting," Bryce swallowed, answering inside his own head as he tried to make his voice as commanding as possible.
If this really was another part of him, then he needed to establish from the beginning that he was the one in charge. "You can’t go hunting tonight."
"It is a rite of passage. It will bother us if we do not do it tonight. I already know you do not want to hunt humans, so I will go straight into the woods."
Bryce said nothing, though he wasn’t sure whether he agreed with BJJ, whose argument was already beginning to sway him.
"I’ll be back and find you before dawn. I will not touch a human," BJJ added, his confidence strangely reassuring.
For a moment, Bryce couldn’t see any reason to stop him. BJJ wasn’t trying to act against his wishes; he had asked for permission, acknowledged Bryce’s refusal to harm humans, and even promised to stay away from them. More importantly, this creature was a part of him. Trusting BJJ felt, in some strange way, like trusting himself.
So Bryce nodded.
He barely had time to register what he had agreed to before BJJ sprang toward the window.
The glass shattered as the wolf leapt straight through it, scattering fragments across the floor before disappearing into the night.
Bryce immediately pushed himself to his feet, surprised to find strength surging back into his body.
He rushed to the broken window and watched BJJ race away, moving with such incredible speed that it seemed as though the wolf had been holding himself back for far too long and could finally no longer contain the instinct driving him into the night.
Bryce didn’t spare the shattered glass a thought. He turned back toward Agatha whose stunned expression suggested she was still trying to comprehend what she had witnessed.
"Have you been communicating with it?" she asked, her voice still filled with disbelief.
"Yes. I let him go hunting because he promised he wouldn’t touch a human."
Agatha stared at him for a moment before shaking her head in astonishment.
"This is incredible. No one has ever had their wolf leave their body." Her gaze shifted toward the broken window, as though she still expected BJJ to somehow return through it. "You’re truly blessed. I apologize for passing out and leaving you all alone. He drained all the energy from my body; I couldn’t hold him any longer."
Bryce didn’t say anything to that, instead, he asked.
"Will it always be outside me?"
"Probably not. I’m not sure yet," Agatha admitted. "I didn’t even know that a wolf could come out of someone’s body. I only knew that someone can turn into a wolf."
Bryce slowly walked back across the room and lowered himself onto the floor, resting his back against the wall as he tried to gather himself.
Right now, it felt as though he had just given birth.
His entire body had seemed to tear itself apart with pain, and then something had come out of him.
His hand instinctively moved toward his stomach.
Was the baby still inside him?
Before he could ask, Agatha spoke again.
"Your eyes are now glowing purple only. The gold that’s missing must be your wolf’s, while the purple is the other power you possess."
Bryce reached into his pocket for his phone, needing to see for himself. His fingers closed around it, and he pulled it out, using the dark reflection to examine his face.
Bright purple glowed from his eyes.
Will they always remain like that? he wondered.
"Is it not going to fade from my eyes?" he asked, "I can’t walk like this anywhere."
"Your powers, your wolf... all of it is under your control," Agatha assured him. "You can summon them, and you can make them disappear."
Bryce said nothing.
He simply closed his eyes and concentrated, quietly willing the strange power beneath his skin to retreat rather than remain visible on the surface. He imagined the purple light sinking deeper into him, withdrawing until there was nothing left to see.
When he finally opened his eyes, Agatha was smiling at him with quiet pride.
Bryce looked down at the phone again.
His eyes were normal.
Almost.
The vivid purple glow was gone, leaving behind only the faintest shade of purple where his usual blue should have been, a subtle change that was barely noticeable.
For a while, neither of them spoke.
They simply sat in silence, each lost in a mind crowded with too many thoughts to arrange into anything coherent, until Bryce suddenly sighed, a strange sense of satisfaction spreading through him without warning as his stomach filled with an unexpected warmth and fullness.
Agatha chuckled knowingly.
Bryce looked at her in confusion, but before he could ask what was happening, she answered the question he hadn’t yet managed to voice.
"Your wolf must have hunted something and eaten. That’s the feeling we get when we hunt," she explained.
Bryce looked down at his stomach.
So his wolf was somewhere out there, possibly miles away, and he could still feel what it was doing as though some invisible thread connected them despite the distance between them.
The realization was strange, but beneath all the fear and uncertainty still churning inside him, Bryce couldn’t deny that a small sense of amusement was beginning to emerge.
"So, what am I supposed to be doing with this power during the wrath?" he finally asked, his thoughts beginning to settle now that the immediate crisis had passed.
"Is there a specific way I’m supposed to control it, or is it simply a matter of commanding it to do what I want? And is it going to affect me in any way?"
He wanted to understand everything tonight, once and for all, make sense of what he had learned, and focus on preparing himself for whatever the Goddess expected of him.
