"I need to go now," Agatha said as she rose to her feet. "Reach out to me whenever you need me. I’ll always be here for you."

Bryce didn’t answer.

He simply watched her prepare to leave, surprised by the reluctance that settled in his chest at the thought of seeing her disappear.

He had only just met her, yet some part of him already felt unwilling to let her leave.

The reaction unsettled him.

He knew he had an emotional problem, and somehow, this was reminding him of something he had deliberately refused to think about since leaving Genovia: how badly Dave had hurt him, yet how some part of him still cared enough to resist walking away from him.

He shook his head, refusing to follow that thought any further, and pushed Dave back into the part of his mind where he had buried him since leaving Genovia.

"Are you okay?" Agatha asked, watching him as though she had sensed the disturbance beneath his silence.

"Yes," Bryce answered simply, his tone firm.

"Okay, then. I’ll leave now. I don’t want dawn to find me here."

"Okay."

Agatha closed her eyes, and before Bryce could understand what she was doing, her body change easily. Where she had been standing only moments earlier, there was a white wolf.

Bryce stared in awe.

The white wolf looked at him for a moment, then lowered her head in what almost seemed like a brief, respectful bow before turning toward the broken window.

With one powerful movement, she sprang through the opening and disappeared into the darkness.

Bryce remained where he was, staring at the empty space she had left behind.

The apartment was quiet and dark, but the darkness didn’t bother him. His newly awakened eyes allowed him to see clearly despite the absence of light,

he had barely even noticed the darkness since the sun went down.

As he stood there, two possibilities occupied his mind.

The first was to return to Vincent’s house and tell him the truth- that he was carrying their child, that the child had a purpose far greater than either of them could have imagined, and that they both had a role to play in the wolf world.

He would make it clear that the only thing he needed from Vincent was his pheromones. Nothing more would come between them.

No confessions. No attempts to control his life. Nothing beyond what was necessary for the child and the role they were both destined to play.

And then he would stay there until the baby was born. After that, he would leave with the baby and return to his own life.

The second option was to live his own life alone as he had intended, then find Vincent, tell him about the pregnancy, explain everything Agatha had told him, and ask him to come to the apartment every day to provide his pheromones.

No.

The thought barely formed before Bryce rejected it.

That would mean spending every day alone while carrying a pregnancy he still didn’t understand, relying on Vincent to come and go whenever he was needed.

Why should he struggle through all of this by himself when the baby belonged to both of them?

The decision settled inside him with a reluctant certainty.

He would go back to Vincent’s house because they were both responsible for the life growing inside him.

They would both have to watch the baby grow day by day and share everything that came with bringing it into the world.

The certainty that Vincent would welcome the news with open arms almost frightened Bryce.

What if he didn’t?

What if Vincent refused to believe him and thought he had lost his mind for claiming that he was pregnant? And that together, they had somehow created a child destined to become a powerful leader of the wolf world?

The possibility made his stomach churn.

Though there was one thing Bryce felt certain about now- Vincent wouldn’t try to take the baby from him.

There was no longer any relationship between him and Leah, or so Bryce believed, and without her standing between them, he couldn’t imagine Vincent having any reason to take the baby away from him.

Bryce sighed and pushed all the thoughts aside. Whatever happened after he returned to Vincent, he was going back.

He closed his eyes and reached inward, trying to find the instinct that connected him to BJJ, hoping to summon his wolf back so they could leave, but before he could fully focus, he heard something land beside him.

Bryce startled and stepped back.

When he opened his eyes, BJJ was already there.

The wolf didn’t wait for Bryce to say anything. He moved toward him with startling speed, slipping behind him before Bryce suddenly felt something pierce through his body. He didn’t even have time to turn around and see what the wolf was doing.

A sharp sensation tore through him, followed by an overwhelming rush of power.

Bryce staggered forward, his breath catching as his entire body seemed to flare with energy. For one disorienting second, he felt as though something enormous had been pulled through him, not entering from the outside but passing directly through his body and folding back into the very core of him.

The sensation suddenly faded, and Bryce turned around, only to find BJJ nowhere in sight, no trace that he had ever been there at all.

But Bryce could feel him inside him with unmistakable intensity. There was no doubt that BJJ had returned inside him.

How is this even possible? Is it magic or what?

The question barely formed before BJJ’s voice sounded inside his head again, just as clearly as it had when the wolf was outside him, but something about it had changed. There was anger in it now, along with a possessiveness Bryce couldn’t understand.

’I saw them together.’

Bryce frowned, the first possibility that came to mind made his stomach tighten.

Vincent and Leah.

Had they somehow gotten back together?

He immediately reminded himself that even if they had, he wouldn’t allow either of them to take his baby from him. He wasn’t as powerless or clueless as he had been before.

’Did you go hunting for your mate or for food? Should I have asked what you meant before you left? And who did you see together?’ He stopped himself from making more assumptions and asked.

’I was just passing by. I saw Vincent and Dave, they were way too close.’

Bryce’s entire body went still.

"No possible way," he said aloud, his disbelief escaping before he could contain it. "How do you even know Dave? And even if you know him, there’s no possible way that you saw that, unless they were fighting."

’They were not.’

"Then what are you claiming they were doing?"

’I don’t know. All I know is that they were way too close.’

Bryce went quiet, struggling to process words that made no sense.

He couldn’t make the pieces fit. How could Vincent and Dave suddenly be close? Just overnight, after everything he had witnessed between them?

It made no sense, so he decided to dismiss it.

He changed out of the torn dress and pulled on the sweatpants and hoodie he had bought, then picked up his small bag and headed for the door.

Before leaving, he pulled out his phone and sent a message to the landlady.

:I broke your window. Fix it with my rent money because I’m not taking the apartment anymore.
