Chapter 286: Chapter 286 - Denial

Just then, the view finally cleared.

Through the huge glass observatory, Li Wang caught sight of the beautiful planet of Gia, glowing beneath them in breathtaking shades of green and gold. From space, it looked almost unreal. Vast stretches of emerald land were scattered across the planet, shimmering beneath the warm golden light, while clouds drifted lazily over its surface.

It was fascinating, really, to see an entire planet from space.

An alien planet.

Ever since he was young, Li Wang had been taught that there was no life beyond Earth. Humans were the only intelligent creatures in existence, and Earth was the only place in the universe where life had ever developed.

What an irony.

The Farians not only existed, but possessed technology far more advanced than anything humanity had ever imagined. They had spaceships capable of crossing black holes, weapons powerful enough to fight an invading species, and a beautiful planet of their own.

And to think that they had been living so close to Earth all this time...

The thought alone was fascinating.

"We will be entering the planet’s atmosphere now," Celaus said.

Li Wang glanced at him.

The prince was watching him with that familiar, quiet look of adoration in his eyes, as though even the magnificent sight of Gia outside the glass could not hold his attention for long when Li Wang was standing beside him.

Clearing his throat, Li Wang quickly turned his attention back toward the window.

The spaceship sped toward Gia, breaking through the planet’s clouds as it began its descent. The sight outside became even more breathtaking as they passed through the atmosphere, the golden light spilling across the glass and painting everything around them in a warm glow.

Then, without warning, the steady ship lurched violently.

Li Wang lost his balance.

His feet slipped beneath him, and for one terrifying second, he thought he was going to crash straight into the glass.

Before he could even react, a pair of strong, muscular arms wrapped securely around his waist and pulled him backward.

He was immediately swallowed by a warm embrace.

"Careful," Celaus murmured close to him. "You could have been hurt badly."

Li Wang froze.

His entire body was surrounded by Celaus’s arms, the man’s solid warmth pressed against him from behind. He could feel the strength in that embrace, but there was nothing harsh about it. Instead, it felt safe. Secure.

Far too secure.

His heart began pounding wildly.

Heat rushed straight to his face, turning his cheeks red in an instant. For some reason, those arms made him feel strangely protected, as though nothing could possibly happen to him while he was being held like this.

And, even more embarrassingly, he didn’t want to leave them.

Without realizing it, Li Wang lifted his eyes and searched for Celaus’s gaze.

The prince’s usually cold grey eyes softened the moment they met his.

Li Wang’s breath caught.

Those beautiful eyes reflected the glowing planet outside, but Celaus wasn’t looking at Gia anymore.

His gaze was fixed entirely on him.

There was such tenderness in those eyes that Li Wang almost forgot how to breathe. It felt as though the entire world had disappeared from Celaus’s sight, leaving only him behind.

As if, in those eyes, he was the only person who existed.

Li Wang’s heart gave an unfamiliar, nervous flutter.

Then he suddenly remembered where they were.

Flicking his gaze away, he looked past Celaus’s shoulder and noticed several Farian soldiers watching them.

The moment their eyes met, the soldiers immediately giggled and exchanged amused smiles.

Li Wang froze.

The heat in his face intensified, but this time it wasn’t from embarrassment alone. His blood seemed to run cold as he suddenly became painfully aware of exactly how close he was to Celaus and how the others must be interpreting the scene.

His expression paled.

He hurriedly placed his hands against Celaus’s arms and tried to push himself out of the embrace.

But those strong arms refused to budge.

"Let go... let go of me," Li Wang whispered, his voice trembling as he struggled against the embrace.

Celaus lowered his head slightly until his forehead rested gently against Li Wang’s. His voice was quiet when he spoke, but there was an unmistakable ache beneath it.

"Then tell me you don’t feel the same as I do," he murmured. "Tell me your heart doesn’t dance when we touch."

One of his hands moved to Li Wang’s chest, resting gently over the frantic beating of his heart.

Li Wang shook his head quickly.

"No... no, I don’t."

Yet even as he said it, he looked up at Celaus without realizing it.

Those beautiful grey eyes were still fixed on him.

But this time, the warmth in them had changed.

They looked hurt.

Something inside Li Wang twisted painfully at the sight.

"L-let go..." His voice grew smaller. "Please..."

Celaus closed his eyes and drew in a slow, deep breath, as though trying to steady himself against the pain of Li Wang’s rejection.

"It hurts me when you deny this bond between us," he said softly. "It hurts me when you reject my touch, especially when all I want is to give you the comfort your soul seems to seek from me."

"No... no..."

Li Wang shook his head again, but the words became harder to say.

Before he even realized what was happening, tears had begun slipping down his cheeks.

He anxiously glanced toward the soldiers nearby. They were still watching, and the thought of them seeing him like this only made his panic worse.

"I can’t..." he whispered. "I... I can’t..."

"Can’t?"

Celaus opened his eyes and gently cupped Li Wang’s chin, turning his face back toward him.

"Or won’t?"

Li Wang’s lips parted, but no answer came.

Celaus’s fingers moved tenderly across his cheek, wiping away the tears that continued to fall.

"Have eyes only for me," he whispered. "Don’t be afraid of what your heart is telling you."

His thumb brushed another tear from beneath Li Wang’s eye, his touch impossibly gentle.

"Accept this feeling, my love."

"No..."

Li Wang shook his head repeatedly, tears trembling on his lashes.

"No... no..."

Celaus looked at him for one quiet moment.

Then, without waiting another second, he leaned forward and captured Li Wang’s trembling lips in a firm kiss.
