It was the first time the person in charge had ever heard "handsome" used as a distinguishing feature.
Frankly, it was a bit abstract.
But that was indeed what the people from the Blazing Angel Family had said, so the person in charge had no choice but to keep his eyes peeled and go by feel...
Meanwhile.
At the bar.
After Sean and Eleanor left, Tony and the others were still drinking.
They hadn’t actually gone out to have fun as they’d claimed. Instead, they were still discussing how to get into the ball.
"No, I’m still not convinced."
"What if Sean’s so-called ’status’ doesn’t work? Then we will have come all this way for nothing, won’t we?" Tony said. He thought it over and over, but it just didn’t feel right. Sean just didn’t seem like the type to have "status." If he did, why would he come to Blake City?
Blake City was a refuge for homeless Heartbroken Wizards. Anyone with real status in the outside world, someone who could make it out there, usually wouldn’t come to Blake City. Besides, he was just a Tier Three Little Wizard. Even if he did have some status, how high could it possibly be?
He hoped no one would tell him Sean was some long-lost young master from a family of High Nobles. What era was this? That trope was long out of fashion.
"So what do you want to do?" Johnson asked.
Before Tony could answer, Ryan put down his glass and said, "I suggest we make backup preparations."
Clearly, he wasn’t too confident in Sean either.
The reason was simple: Wizards almost never trusted anyone of a lower Tier.
Besides, this wasn’t a small matter. Being stopped at the door and not getting into the ball would be the least of their worries. The real fear was an issue with their identities leading to a one-way trip. This was no joke. They only had one life each, and they still needed it to assassinate the Saintess.
"Let’s just do what we need to do tomorrow," Tony said. "Like we discussed before, let’s figure out a way to get some invitations."
Johnson hesitated. "Is that really a good idea?"
After all, they had already agreed to let Sean handle getting into the ball. Acting on their own would show a great lack of trust and wouldn’t be good for team unity.
In fact, Johnson already felt it was a bit dirty of them to wait until Sean and Eleanor had left to even discuss this.
"I’m telling you, Johnson, that’s where you’re wrong." Tony, in turn, began to lecture him. With a serious expression, he said, "Do you know what the most important thing in life is?"
"It’s honesty!"
"We don’t trust him to begin with, so isn’t it perfectly reasonable for us to try and find our own way?"
"Besides, even though we’re a team, it’s common knowledge that it’s normal for a three-person team to have four different group chats. We’re not trying to cause trouble or be moles or anything. Aren’t we just doing this so everyone can get into Eve Mansion smoothly the day after tomorrow?"
"Our goal is the same."
Tony argued logically, "So there’s nothing wrong with this. On the contrary, we’re providing a safety net for Sean. If something unexpected really happens, he’ll have to thank us."
Johnson was speechless.
’He kind of has a point, doesn’t he?’
"Then it’s settled," Tony declared, making the final decision. "Anyway, according to Sean, tomorrow is a free day. We can do whatever we want, right?"
"We’ll have a little competition with him. Each to their own. We’ll see whether his status as a Tier Three is more impressive, or if our skills as Tier Six Wizards are more effective."
Tony opened the last bottle of beer and poured it for the other two. "Here, let’s finish this and get going. We’ll get a good night’s rest and recharge so we’re ready for work tomorrow."
When he’d heard Sean say they should enjoy this rare trip out, he had been tempted. They were in a bar, after all. Perhaps he could find a pretty girl for an in-depth discussion on the wondrous phenomenon of generating electricity through friction, as described in the principles of Mysticism.
But now, he’d changed his mind.
’Stay focused. Don’t get carried away.’
’There’ll be plenty of opportunities later.’
’When it comes to serious business, I’m all in.’
’Besides, aren’t the girls at the ball going to be way hotter than the ones in this bar?’
Ryan glanced at Tony.
’Sometimes, I really wonder.’
’Why are the people around me always so confident?’
’First Sean, now Tony. Do they really think it’s that easy to get into the ball and pick up girls?’
He would soon find out that Tony had his reasons for being so confident.
He really had the substance to back it up.
The three of them returned to the hotel, washed up, and went to bed. They woke up early the next day and, without telling Sean or Eleanor, hastily ate some breakfast and quietly set their plan into motion.
As agreed, it was now "each to their own."
Each would use their own methods to get an invitation.
It wasn’t really about competing to see who was better. Splitting up was simply more efficient, and it allowed them to fully utilize their individual talents without fear of being laughed at by the others. Take Ryan, for instance—
He chose to go to a high-end restaurant to find his "prey."
Though he rarely spoke and was usually silent, making him seem like he wasn’t good with people, he was actually very eloquent. At least, that’s what Ryan himself believed.
He had specially gone to a department store and used team funds to buy a high-end suit, gotten his hair styled, and dressed himself to the nines. Then, tilting his head up at a haughty 14-degree angle and wearing a mature, polite smile, he strode into the restaurant and approached a noblewoman dining alone.
"Oh, my lady, has anyone ever told you that your beauty is like a rose blooming in a wheat field, so utterly captivating?"
The noblewoman was speechless.
She rolled her eyes. "If you can’t come up with a decent metaphor, then don’t. Who has roses growing in their wheat field?
If it’s called a wheat field, it’s obviously for growing wheat.
Ryan smiled faintly. "You’re right, and that is precisely my point. A wheat field shouldn’t have a rose, just as this tacky mortal world shouldn’t have a lady as beautiful as you. That is why I noticed you at once."
