The Most Arbitrary Wizard

Chapter 212 - 120: "Two-Way Scam

The noblewoman paused, her eyes lifting in surprise.

’I didn’t expect this guy to actually have some culture. He has a nice way with words.’

’I misjudged him.’

But a few romantic sweet-nothings weren’t enough to get her to talk to him.

She looked at Ryan with great interest and asked, "Do you have designs on me?"

Ryan was taken aback. He hadn’t expected her to be so direct.

’Aren’t elegant noblewomen supposed to be subtle and reserved in their speech and actions?’

He still knew too little about aristocratic circles.

Often, they found elegance in the vulgar.

The noblewoman tilted her chin up and said, "With me, just being a smooth-talker isn’t enough. You need to have some real skills."

She didn’t even bother asking Ryan’s intentions. When a man hits on a woman, it was always about that same old thing.

Ryan confidently adjusted his bow tie, puffed out his chest, and said, "I know Magic."

He had observed the noblewoman before him carefully. She exuded a faint aura, which meant she was also a Wizard, just not a high-Level one—probably only Tier Two or Tier Three. He could handle her easily.

’Asking if I have skills? She’s definitely come to the right person.’

Ryan would bet his skills would far exceed the noblewoman’s expectations.

After all, there weren’t many Wizards who had reached Tier Six through Cultivation before the age of thirty like him. Even in the Church Court, he could pass for a genius.

But to his surprise, the noblewoman couldn’t care less about his Tier. Instead, she gave him a strange look. "What does you knowing Magic have to do with me?"

Her gaze moved down aggressively as she said meaningfully, "I’m talking about the skills of your ’treasure’."

Ryan: "?"

The noblewoman fired off a series of questions: "How long can you last?"

"What’s your size?"

"And if we start on the first floor, how far up the stairs could you carry me?"

The wealthy woman’s three-part interrogation completely short-circuited Ryan’s brain, making his face flush red.

’Damn it, why is this noblewoman nothing like I imagined?’

’Whatever. For the sake of an invitation, what’s the harm in sacrificing my body a little?’

’Besides, this noblewoman isn’t bad-looking.’

So, Ryan gritted his teeth and said, "Trust me, I will definitely leave you satisfied."

Seeing him so confident, the noblewoman finally became interested. "Alright, I’ll take your word for it."

Confident men were always more charming.

She gestured for Ryan to sit and join her for lunch, casually adding, "Are you bringing your own steel wool, or should we use mine?"

Ryan, who had just sat down: "???"

"Steel wool??"

"That’s right," the noblewoman said, her cheeks flushing and her eyes filled with watery anticipation. "If you think that’s not enough, you could add a bit of an electric current. You know Magic, don’t you? Mr. Wizard, I hope you can give me a special experience."

Ryan shot to his feet. "Farewell!"

Faced with the unbearable weight of steel wool, Ryan’s first attempt ended in failure.

Johnson wasn’t having much luck either.

He had planned to just rob someone, but all the nobles on the street were dressed so similarly that he couldn’t tell who was higher-status or wealthier and thus likely to be invited by the Little Gista Family. Johnson had no idea who might have an invitation, and he spent ages just looking for a target.

He finally spotted a woman getting out of a car from out of town, who was very likely here specifically for the ball. But as soon as he approached, a man followed her out of the back seat—her husband. He stood right in front of Johnson and asked with a hostile gaze, "What do you want?"

The man’s aura was on full display, and the presence he emitted was in no way inferior to Johnson’s own.

He immediately forced an awkward laugh, scratching his head. "Sorry to bother you. I just got to Old Mundo City and I’m not familiar with the area. I was wondering how to get to Eve Mansion?"

The man said, "Can’t you use your phone for navigation?"

Johnson slapped his forehead. "Oh, right! I have a phone. Thanks for the reminder. Have a safe trip."

And so, Johnson failed as well.

Kave, on the other hand, simply chose to slack off.

He hadn’t said a word for or against this operation at the bar last night, so no one could blame him for loafing on the job.

Only Tony’s operation was a success.

He didn’t try to guess who had an invitation. Instead, he directly targeted the members of the Little Gista Family themselves.

He went to stake out Eve Mansion and noticed that something seemed to be happening with the family. A lot of people had arrived, looking like they were there for a meeting. So, he grabbed the scissors he carried with him, disguised himself as a hairdresser, and slipped into Eve Mansion.

He had already found out that the Little Gista Family often had hairstylists make house calls. Perhaps because he truly had the air of a hairdresser, the security at the door didn’t stop him.

Once inside the mansion, he used his knowledge from scouting the place last night to easily find the utility closet. He changed clothes and transformed into a janitor, sweeping everywhere while looking for a chance to eavesdrop on the Little Gista Family’s conversations.

He definitely couldn’t get into the meeting itself—he’d be beaten to death. But in a family this large, there were bound to be some gossips who would whisper among themselves after the meeting was over.

Tony’s line of thinking was crystal clear, and it really did lead him to a bombshell piece of information.

"People from the Blazing Angel Family are coming to the ball."

Back at the hotel that night, Tony immediately shared the intel with Kave and the other two.

Kave didn’t get it. "The Blazing Angel Family is coming to the ball. What does that have to do with us?"

Tony said meaningfully, "The point isn’t the Blazing Angel Family’s name. It’s that their decision to come was also last-minute."

"Last-minute" meant they didn’t have invitations.

Coincidentally, neither did they.

Ryan seemed to understand. "Don’t tell me you want to impersonate the Blazing Angel Family."

Tony snapped his fingers. "Bingo. You guessed it."

"According to the intel I gathered this afternoon, the Little Gista Family doesn’t know what the people from the Blazing Angel Family look like. They’re still worrying about how to find them."

"As long as we get to Eve Mansion before the real Blazing Angel Family, we can completely take their place."

Kave was terrified by Tony’s audacity. "Are you insane?"

"That’s the Blazing Angel Family!"

"One of the only three Grand Duke Families in the Empire! If we impersonate them and get caught, we won’t even know how we died."

"No, no, no, hear me out."

Tony said, "The First Saintess’s painting is only helpful to Wizards below Tier Seven. What does that tell you?"

"It means no Grand Mage is going to waste their time coming to this ball. The same goes for the Blazing Angel Family."

"And as long as we’re not up against a Grand Mage, we have a chance."

"Even if things go south, we can still slip away."

"Besides... you think I just want to impersonate the Blazing Angel Family?"

Tony chuckled. "No, I’m not just going to impersonate the Blazing Angel Family, but the Little Gista Family as well."

"Use your brains and think about it. The Little Gista Family doesn’t know the Blazing Angels’ people, so would the Blazing Angels’ people know the Little Gista Family’s people?"

It was a Two-Way Scam.

First, they would impersonate the Blazing Angel Family to get into Eve Mansion early. Then, they would station two people at the door to welcome the real distinguished guests.

They could tell the Little Gista Family beforehand that their party was larger than expected and a few more friends would be arriving later. As for the Blazing Angel Family, they would claim to be attendants specially sent by the Little Gista Family to serve them, then lead them to a different part of the ball so the two groups would never meet.

After hearing Tony’s plan, Kave fell silent.

He was probably crazy, too.

To think that Tony’s idea, while extremely dangerous, actually seemed workable...

Ryan and Johnson also stared at Tony with a mixture of shock and uncertainty.

’Damn, this guy really has some tricks up his sleeve, doesn’t he?’

"And didn’t Sean say he has status?"

Tony clearly enjoyed their gazes. He hmphed, "I’d like to see if his status will be higher than ours when the time comes."

Next door.

In the living room, Sean, who was sitting on the sofa watching TV with one leg crossed over the other, sneezed.

Eleanor, who had just come out of the bathroom after a shower, was still drying her hair. She asked, "Catching a cold?"

Sean wiped his nose and said, "I prefer to think someone’s thinking of me."

He was talking about Elvire.

But Eleanor misunderstood and thought Sean was flirting with her. She rolled her eyes at him. "How come I never noticed you were such a narcissist before?"

Sean couldn’t be bothered to explain. He just gave her a reminder, "You should get some rest soon. Don’t stay up too late. We’re going to Eve Mansion tomorrow morning."

Eleanor tilted her head. "But the ball doesn’t start until evening, does it? Why are we going so early?"

Sean answered lazily, "It’ll be too crowded at night, and I can’t be bothered with the crush of people. If we go early, it’ll also save them the trouble of looking all over for us."

"Oh, okay."
