The Most Arbitrary Wizard

Chapter 265 142: 3=8 (Part 2)

Moreover, she was right there watching.

Even if Sean slipped up, she couldn't believe a mere Tier Seven could actually hurt Sean right under her nose.

If that happened, she might as well stop being the Saintess.

So, Diana gave Catherine a languid look in return.

'If they want to fight, just let them.'

'If Sean lost, she'd have an excuse to mock the guy tonight.'

'If Sean won, she'd have the perfect pretext to invite him for a private meeting.'

'Even though Sean wasn't one of the exam candidates.'

'But for a newcomer like Sean to defeat a bona fide Grand Mage with his humble Tier Three abilities—if that didn't count as an outstanding performance, what would?'

'She couldn't lose either way.'

Catherine, of course, couldn't fathom the thoughts of Her Highness the Saintess. All she knew was that Her Highness seemed intent on enjoying the show. Thus, Catherine could only fall silent, look up at the sky, and pretend she hadn't seen the conflict between Sean and the Male Wizard.

When the crowd saw her tacit approval, the hall erupted once more.

"This is bad, it looks like Her Highness the Saintess isn't going to intervene!"

"Now we're really done for..."

Teacher Sean was truly impressive when it came to understanding the Truth Technique—even Mr. Scholar had humbly deferred to his expertise. But if it came to an actual fight, a thorough understanding of the Truth Technique was useless!

After all, his Magic Power was only at Tier Three; his upper limit was completely capped. At best, he could use the Truth Technique to fight above his station against a Tier Four, and even that wasn't a guaranteed win. As long as his opponent's Magic Power was higher, they could simply ignore the 'puzzle' and use brute force to break free from the Chain of Truth's restraints.

Even Teacher Tony was watching Sean with a worried expression. He was inwardly fuming. 'That guy has no self-awareness at all. Of all the people to provoke, he had to go and pick a fight with a Grand Mage...'

'He would've been better off coming to "teach" me a lesson instead.'

'He's going to lose anyway, so why not lose to me? At least that way I could help a brother out, right?'

The Lady and the others, however, said nothing.

Logic told them that Sean couldn't possibly defeat the Male Wizard. A Tier Three defeating a Tier Seven? No one would believe such a story.

Yet, their intuition told them that Her Highness the Saintess's behavior was very odd today. Not only was she wearing a formal gown they had never seen her in before, but she was also turning a blind eye to the conflict at the round table, seemingly unconcerned about any potential trouble.

Looked at from another perspective, could this not be seen as Her Highness the Saintess's trust in Sean?

'Following that logic backward, trust is built on understanding, or at least acquaintance. So... given that Sean comes from a significant background, and assuming Her Highness the Saintess does know him, could it be possible she wore this beautiful evening gown today... for Sean?'

Therefore, the Lady and the others all chose to remain neutral.

They couldn't be sure of the Saintess's stance, nor could they be sure of Sean's identity. The best course of action was to not take a side.

Silence is golden.

It would save them the embarrassment of guessing wrong and losing face.

Only Laelando, being more straightforward, whispered to Sean, "Do you need my help?"

Once the fight actually began, he couldn't interfere—he wasn't the type to cheat. But before it started, he could run interference for Sean, perhaps by teaching the Male Wizard a lesson on Sean's behalf.

After all, he considered Sean his teacher. It was only right and proper for him to discipline an unruly student on his teacher's behalf.

But Sean just gently shook his head.

"No need."

'I can't possibly lose.'

'Besides, this is also a test.'

'A test directed at Her Highness the Saintess, and one I must carry out myself.'

The Male Wizard had already taken his position in the center of the round table, waiting to be "punished."

Seeing that no one seemed to think Sean stood a chance, he finally felt a little better. He even straightened his back a bit, saying confidently and provocatively, "Teacher Sean, please discipline your student!"

The request was as bizarre as it was arrogant.

Sean slowly raised his right hand. "Are you sure you're ready?"

The Male Wizard replied, "I'm sure!"

'He's only a Tier Three. What preparations are necessary?'

But Sean reminded him with a completely straight face, "When this slap lands, you might die."

The Male Wizard burst out laughing and said with pointed meaning, "To die at Teacher Sean's hands would be my honor."

"Good. I like your defiant attitude," Sean said with a note of appreciation. "Then get ready to catch this."

As he spoke, under the worried and curious gazes of all the Wizards, Sean remained seated in the judge's chair—he didn't even stand up. From that great distance, he simply made a slapping motion toward the Male Wizard in the center of the round table.

A slap is not a very polite gesture.

More importantly, it was far too casual, as if he didn't take his opponent seriously at all. The gesture inherently carried a superior, humiliating tone.

The Male Wizard was so furious he began to laugh.

'Very good.'

'A mere Tier Three dares to slap me, a Grand Mage.'

'Then I'll just use the F=F' Technique to reflect it and see just whose face this slap ends up on!'

At that moment, the Male Wizard unleashed the full might of his Magic Power as a Grand Mage. It condensed before him into a massive golden ring, the characters within it perfectly clear. It was obvious he had cultivated this Truth Technique to the point of utter mastery.

'Anything below Tier Seven can be reflected!'

"So strong!"

Gasps of awe rippled through the audience.

No one was a stranger to that ring, but few could inscribe its characters with such clarity. It could be said that with this single Technique, the Male Wizard was already invincible among those at Tier Seven.

This was precisely the strength of the Truth Technique. The Third Law Ring alone was enough to give any enemy a world of trouble. This was also why a Wizard who mastered the Truth Technique could never be defeated by someone of a lower Tier and was virtually invincible against those of the same Tier.

However, when Sean's slap actually landed, the crowd discovered that what they had believed to be invincibility was nothing more than a joke.
