Diana was getting genuinely angry now.
She bit her lip, and a faint, almost imperceptible blush crept across her cold, stern face, like the last vestiges of a sunset from hours before.
'This bastard!'
'He used to make me call him dad.'
'And now he wants me to call him grandpa.'
'Anyone who didn't know better would think she, the Saintess, was utterly shameless, willing to call any scoundrel her father!'
Sean, however, keenly noticed the change in her expression and feigned surprise. "Oh? Are you blushing?"
"Is it because I've hit a nerve, Your Highness? Are you finally ashamed of your disrespect for your elders?"
"But don't worry. It's not too late to call me Great-Grandpa."
"After all, to err is human. As long as you can admit your mistakes and learn from them, you'll still be Grandpa's good little granddaughter."
Sean put on a magnanimous air, as if he were a great man forgiving a petty transgression.
He knew he was being incredibly punchable right now, but he got a real kick out of seeing Diana flustered.
'Who was she to be so disrespectful, ordering him around like a common servant?'
'And she had the nerve to unjustly label him.'
'So he'd just have to slap one right back on Diana.'
Furious, Diana bit her lip, glaring at Sean. "You've been insolent time and again. Aren't you afraid I'll kill you?"
Sean met her gaze without a trace of fear, his voice tinged with mockery. "Aren't you a little overconfident, Your Highness the Saintess?"
"You're merely Tier Ten, while I am beyond that. Has no one ever told you how vast the chasm between those two levels is?"
"Oh?" Diana sneered. "Then why is it that my senses tell me you're only Tier Three?"
Sean replied calmly, "So, Her Highness the Saintess wants to put it to the test?"
"Haven't you heard the saying? Fuck around and find out."
Diana raised her hand. A miniature, seal-like Magic Array materialized in her palm, slowly spinning.
"Then let's test it," she said.
Sean: "?"
"Wait!"
'We can't test it!'
'If we do, I'll really die!'
He struggled to maintain his composure, saying with forced nonchalance, "On second thought, let's not."
"At the end of the day, we're family. If I were to slip up and hurt you, I'd never forgive myself."
Diana: "No matter."
"Even if you do hurt me, I'll have brought it on myself. You needn't feel guilty."
With that, Diana flicked her finger, and the Seal Array, imbued with the terrifying Magic Power of a Tier Ten, shot toward Sean.
In that instant, Sean felt like the sky itself was falling.
This was not an exaggeration.
This seemingly casual move from Diana exerted a pressure on him that felt like the heavens were crashing down.
Sean scrambled off the sofa, dodging with a desperate roll.
'Shit, she's for real!'
Diana's gaze was laced with scorn. "Aren't you supposed to be beyond Tier Ten? Why are you dodging?"
Sean rolled onto another sofa and, in a strained attempt at elegance, crossed his legs again. He said coolly, "Like I said, I don't want to hurt you."
"You're still young, so a bit of mischief is understandable. But as your elder, I have to act like one. I can't just indulge your whims."
Though his body had betrayed his fear, his words remained stubborn.
Diana was both exasperated and amused.
'She had originally planned to test Sean, to see how he had changed over the years. Now, there was no need. He was the same as ever, always pretending to be so proper. But who knew his true nature better than she and Daeli?'
'So many times, he'd clearly want something but would stubbornly refuse to say it, expecting them to make the first move.'
'Though the two situations were different on the surface, they had the exact same flavor—a stubbornness no one else could replicate.'
'This woman is not easy to fool,' Sean complained inwardly. Fearing she might attack again, he said, "My time is precious. If you have business with me, Your Highness the Saintess, please state it."
For the moment, Diana couldn't be bothered to call his bluff. She gestured for him to turn around.
"Look behind you."
Behind the sofa, there had been a wall.
But where Diana's Fingertip Array had "struck" it, a web of irregular, maze-like patterns had appeared. They pulsed with a faint light, brightening and dimming as if breathing.
Sean started. "Is that a door?"
Diana nodded slightly. "It is."
The Fingertip Array was the key to this door; she hadn't truly intended to attack Sean.
Unlike Sean, who was busy pretending to be her grandfather, she was the one who truly couldn't bear to harm him.
Besides, given her Tier, if she had truly wanted to harm Sean, he would have been unable to dodge.
"Follow me."
Diana said.
She led Sean through the wall.
It was a secret chamber, much like the collection room in the Vernadu villa, but with one difference: a staircase leading up.
The 7th Floor wasn't actually the top floor of Black Rose Castle. The true top floor was the eighth—a spire that, from the outside, looked merely decorative.
It looked small from the outside, and the space within was, unsurprisingly, also small.
Diana didn't need it to be large, as its sole purpose was to store a single object.
No one besides her ever came here, so it only needed to be large enough to hold her and that one item.
Diana pushed open the door to the small room in the spire.
This was a completely sealed space, with no windows and no lamps.
And yet, the room was brightly lit.
A statue with a blurred face stood silently in the center of the room.
"Statue" was Sean's first thought. It did look very much like the ones in the Holy Sanctuary. But on closer inspection, Sean realized it wasn't a statue at all. All the light in the room emanated from it. It was glowing from the inside out, the light originating from its heart. The entire "statue" was translucent, allowing him to clearly see the network of veins within its body.
It wasn't so much a statue, he realized, as a "Clone."
