The Most Arbitrary Wizard

Chapter 289 149: "Helpers from the Family

But no one dared to stare.

If they looked at all, it was only with furtive glances.

"Ladies, you must be tired after such a long journey," Robert said with a fawning smile. "I've specially prepared a banquet for you. Shall we go inside and talk?"

Elise, with a calm and indifferent expression, nodded and said, "Lead the way."

'I'm so exhausted.'

'But I have to stay elegant.'

Robert led the two women to the banquet hall in the ship's cabin.

A large round table was laden with a sumptuous spread of dishes, making Elise's mouth water.

But she couldn't eat, because she had to maintain her elegance.

She and Eleanor were Grand Mages, supreme beings in this world. They had to carry themselves with the appropriate poise.

"Please, have a seat, ladies."

"Let me introduce myself first."

Robert said respectfully, "I am Robert, the head of the Florist Family's operations in the Farm World. If you don't mind, ladies, you can call me Xiao Luo."

The two women were speechless.

'There was nothing wrong with the words themselves, but he was an old man with white hair! Calling him "Xiao Luo" felt strange, no matter how you looked at it.'

Eleanor smiled and said, "You're too kind, Clan Leader. We should probably just call you Mr. Robert."

Robert chuckled. "Alright, whatever you ladies prefer. You can call me whatever you like."

At this moment, Robert seemed like an amiable and unpretentious old man, a complete contrast to the man who had berated Zajik back in New Elderidge.

"Come, let's eat first."

"We can talk while we eat."

Robert urged warmly.

Elise, however, sat ramrod straight, trying hard not to look at the fragrant dishes covering the table. With her hands resting on her lap, she said, "There's no rush. Mr. Robert, why don't you first tell us what happened."

The two women didn't yet understand this world's Witch Hunt Operation. No one had told them about it. All they knew was that someone had killed a member of the Florist Family, but they were unclear as to why. They needed to get the full story. If it was just a case of crooks killing crooks, they wouldn't mind helping out. After all, neither side would be any good, so it would be for the best if a few more of them died.

But if the killing was "justified," they wouldn't get involved. Otherwise, wouldn't they become accomplices of the Church Court?

As the "victim's family," Robert naturally painted his own in the best possible light. The moment Elise asked about the matter, a look of grief, anger, and a hint of shame appeared on his old face. "To be honest with you, ladies, this incident was actually a result of our Florist Family's negligence."

His skill in rhetoric was in no way inferior to Robes's.

He said, "Originally, we were just following the Church Court's orders to capture that Wizard. But our intelligence was faulty. The man's power far exceeded our expectations, which led to oversights in our operation, allowing him to escape. Because of that, he came to resent us and sought revenge."

"Honestly, I can understand how he feels."

"I can even understand why Zajik had to die."

"After all, if you set out to kill, you must be prepared to be killed. We've served the Church Court for so many years; we're well aware of that."

"But I never imagined he would choose to make his move in New Aldrich."

"That is a Holy City of the Church Court, where the use of Magic Power is strictly forbidden."

"Even the most arrogant criminals have never dared to cause trouble in New Elderidge. But he ignored the Church Court's decrees, robbing our Florist Family's bank in broad daylight and then ambushing and killing Zajik in his hotel at night..."

"This isn't just a slap in the face to our Florist Family; it's a slap in the face to the Church Court!"

Robert grew more agitated as he spoke, elevating the matter to one of grave principle. He said furiously, "So, for the sake of sentiment and reason, for both public and private interests, we must make him pay the price for his insolent actions!"

"We must make him understand that members of the Florist Family cannot be killed by just anyone who pleases, and that the Church Court's authority is not to be trampled on by anyone!"

'Sounds like this guy really isn't a good person?'

Eleanor mused internally. 'Not only a murderer but a bank robber, too...'

Elise exchanged a glance with her. If all this was true, then they could help.

So she chimed in, "This man is certainly audacious."

"What's his name?"

"Sean," Robert replied.

Elise: "...?"

"Say that again. What was his name?"
