The Most Arbitrary Wizard

Chapter 322 - 159: "Repaying Injury with Kindness

"No no no no!"

"I’m not going!"

"I can’t do it, Teacher!"

"I’ve hardly read any books in my life, and my family was poor. It was only thanks to Miss Flame Crow taking me in that I even got the chance to live in Alola Town... Everyone knows I’m a really introverted person. I’m too scared to even talk to strangers, my EQ is terrifyingly low, and I don’t know the first thing about politics! If you make me the Governor, people will die!"

She was just a kid!

And taking a huge step back, even if she did force herself to do it, the other government officials and the people of Siracle State would never accept it.

Who makes a little girl a governor? This joke wasn’t funny at all!

Seeing that Sean had his sights set on her, Yisha panicked and immediately refused, rattling off a million reasons in one breath. She spoke as fast as a machine gun, terrified that if she was a second too late, Sean would make the final decision, and then she’d be forced into it whether she liked it or not.

Seeing the girl was genuinely terrified, Sean said with some amusement, "Don’t be nervous. That’s not what I meant."

Yisha took half a step back. "Then what do you mean?"

As he took out his phone, Sean said, "When I said I want you to go, I didn’t mean to be the Governor, but to take out the Governor."

’Take out the Governor?’

Yisha was utterly confused.

’Isn’t that even harder??’

Sean handed her his phone. "Here. You should remember this person, right?"

On the screen was a photo of the current Governor of Siracle State, which Sean had found online.

He was no stranger to either of them.

Pulente. Male, and self-identifies as male, 54 years old. A native of Siracle State. He was formerly a clergyman who ran a small business on the side. Later, he accidentally struck it rich, befriended many influential figures, and embarked on a political career. His rise was swift and unobstructed: from distinguished entrepreneur to people’s representative, then to legislative observer, a full-fledged representative, the Governor’s secretary, and Lieutenant Governor. Finally, four years ago, he achieved his long-held ambition and became the 101st Governor of Siracle State.

In the photo, Pulente was ruddy-faced and triumphant, looking as if he were in the middle of a speech.

Just by looking at his sharp suit and raised arm, one would think he must be giving an excellent speech.

In reality, however, Pulente’s "speech" was almost entirely bullshit, treating the public like a bunch of fools.

—It was a close-up from the official press conference held after the plane crash.

Nine out of ten comments below the photo were curses.

"Lapdog of capitalism, it’s time for you to step down!"

"Have you forgotten where you came from? Pulente, Son of the Beach, you’ve fucking betrayed the working class!"

"Someone like you wants to be re-elected? Pfft!"

The only positive comment went like this: "You rabble just don’t understand Mr. Governor! See this suit he’s wearing? Bought it at the mall for 78. I have the same one. And his leather shoes, 59 a pair, buy one get one free. You must be wondering where all his money went? Think about that plane that exploded. Mr. Pulente would rather live in poverty and even spend his own money to purge those Heretics. He’s such an incorruptible, righteous governor who serves the people with all his heart, how could you curse him? I will always support Mr. Pulente! (Get the Governor’s exact suit and shoes, now 38 with free shipping. Order fast!)"

Yisha: "..."

’Why is there a shoe-shilling guy here too.’

She scrolled back to the previous comments and said, "I think they’re absolutely right to curse him!"

’This Governor is really despicable.’

’They were clearly the victims, yet he branded them as terrorists. Who was the one who really blew up the plane, anyway?’

Thankfully, the public wasn’t stupid and didn’t believe his lies. As for Pulente’s current status as a public enemy, Yisha had only three words—

Serves him right!

"Just cursing him is useless. It won’t change anything."

Sean said earnestly, "We must repay injury with kindness."

Yisha: "Huh?"

’Repay injury with kindness?’

’Aren’t we supposed to be taking Pulente out?’

"Teacher, I think you used the wrong idiom..."

"Nope."

Sean explained with impeccable logic, "My plan is to have you use a sniper rifle. But him? He used custom explosives to blow us up—the whole plane is gone. If you compare the amount of ordnance, you’ll see how merciful we’re being. Isn’t that repaying injury with kindness?"

Yisha: "..."

’As expected of Teacher, such a clever use of the idiom... Wait!’

’That’s not right!’

Yisha suddenly realized that "repaying injury with kindness" wasn’t the main point at all. The point was *who* was going to be doing the repaying.

And Sean was still picking her.

"Teacher, I don’t know how to shoot. Pick someone else," Yisha said pitifully, shaking Sean’s arm and trying to act cute. "I’m an intelligence agent! Killing is the one thing I’m worst at."

Sean couldn’t help but recall the first time the girl had tried to tail him. He said, "It’s not like I’ve seen you show much talent for gathering intelligence, either."

Yisha: "..."

’Damn it. First he said I wasn’t pretty, and now he’s saying I’m bad at my job...’

’Is this guy’s mouth made of knives?’

"That was a mistake, a mistake!"

She explained fiercely, "I didn’t know how strong you were back then, Teacher! Otherwise, I would never have even entered the mall!"

The sight of the girl looking both fierce and adorably flustered made Elise and her sister, who were watching from the side, giggle secretly.

Sean consoled the girl, "Relax, don’t overthink it. Just do as I say. I believe in you. You can do it, Little Yisha."

Yisha pouted. "But I’m really not good with guns..."

Pistols were one thing. They were the most basic self-defense weapon; any Wizard knew how to use one to some extent.

But a sniper rifle was a different story.

That thing was not only huge and heavy, but its recoil was terrifying. For someone with a small frame like hers—under five-foot-three—who had no professional training, she might not even hit her target and end up getting sent flying herself...
