Zero’s method of dealing with Hypnos’ Factor was quite simple.
Since his mind couldn’t resist the Splinters’ commands after his second awakening, despite how tampered it was, he decided to go for another solution.
Switching his minds.
Given that he could already split his mind to control each of his clones independently, it was quite easy for him to switch to a different mind whenever Hypnos took control of one.
It was almost like he had multiple personalities, but they were all just him.
Unlike in his original body, though, he couldn’t make the switch happen quickly in his clones, so it would take a while to free them from Hypnos’ control... hence, the reason he had experienced multiple deaths at the hands of the Splinters.
"This is getting exhausting," Zero said as he wiped the blood off the sides of his lips.
Neither Erode nor Hypnos had actually landed an attack on him, but the constant mind switching was quickly taking a toll on him.
He had hoped to knock the two out with gas, but the moment he created one, Hypnos would order him to toss it to Erode, and before the hitman could manage to regain control of himself again, the canister would’ve already crumbled to Dust in Erode’s hand.
But that was not to say that he was the only one at a disadvantage.
Erode was still in pain from the missing hand, so that seemed to be messing with her Factor a bit, while Hypnos was slowly being affected by Zero being able to snap out of his control.
So the Splinter switched tactics as he observed something, "Kill him."
The moment he said those words, Agent 46 suddenly pointed his gun at Zero and without hesitation,
BANG!
Hypnos had realized that while he couldn’t maintain his hold on Zero for too long, 46 was a different case.
His hold lasted a lot longer on the mercenary, so he decided to take advantage of that.
Fortunately for Zero, the moment he felt his other mind being taken over, he realized that he wouldn’t get enough time to take back control of his clone, so the moment the gun went off, he leaned to the side, narrowly avoiding the bullet.
"Hey!" The hitman let out as he looked at the clone, "aren’t we supposed to be on the same side?"
He was trying to buy enough time to focus and regain control of his own mind, but Hypnos had no intention of doing so.
Agent 46 suddenly launched himself towards Zero, forcing the hitman to put up both arms just in time to block a kick from his clone.
The attack launched him backwards, but he quickly recovered the moment 46 lifted his gun again and pulled the trigger.
Zero then disappeared, letting the bullets hit where he previously was.
"Time to put you in time out," the hitman said as he reappeared in front of the clone with his hand extended to grab its face.
Unfortunately, Erode was also thinking the same, and he noticed her hand slowly moving towards his own face.
If he tried grabbing the clone, he risked getting touched by her, which definitely wouldn’t end well.
With a sigh, he abandoned his plan and quickly retreated. "Three versus one is quite unfair, don’t you think?"
He then looked directly at Hypnos and added, "Why don’t you make this fair and give me back my partner?"
In response, both Erode and Agent 46 launched themselves towards him again, quickly closing the distance.
"I’m guessing that’s a no?"
The two quickly closed the distance between them, and Zero quickly ducked under his clone’s attack, but before he could retaliate, his instincts suddenly went haywire, causing him to quickly dodge to the side.
A second after he moved, Erode’s hand reached where he previously was...again, missing him just by an inch.
The hitman frowned as he retreated to safety....As far as he knew, he always worked alone, so it came as a surprise to him that his clone was working this well with someone else.
He would’ve been proud of himself....if they weren’t trying to kill him.
Momentarily distracted, he forgot that he was up against three opponents...that is, until Hypnos spoke up again.
Zero suddenly froze mid-dodge, allowing Erode to finally reach him, but a second later, he regained control of his mind again... Or rather, he switched them and quickly moved.
Erode had a frown on her face as she looked at Zero, who was now a distance away from her, with her hand still extended forward.
’That’s strange,’ she thought to herself, ’I could’ve sworn I touched him.’
She, very clearly, felt her fingers resting on his skin and her Factor activating, so how was he completely unharmed?
Well, it was quite simple.
Erode did indeed touch the hitman, but in the second it took for her Factor to activate, he managed to move.
Something that would’ve been impossible without the hitman’s current enhancements... but even that was on a timer.
Zero, on the other hand, felt quite uncomfortable about the fact that he was a second away from dying.
Surviving that a second time would be impossible, so he needed to get rid of her as soon as possible.
Besides, Hypnos really wasn’t that much of a threat without his Factor.
Unlike Erode, he saw training as unnecessary since he could always put his opponent under his control.
"Now then," Zero looked directly at Agent 46 instead of Hypnos and Erode, "shall we stop this farce?"
The two Splinters seemed confused, especially Hypnos, since he was certain that 46 was still under his control.
But the next second, 46 suddenly lifted the gun in his hand, pointed it to the side and without hesitation,
BANG!
Erode’s eyes widened as she felt the bullet go straight through her head. Her eyes then went completely blank before she fell to the floor.
Her eyes were still wide open as blood pooled beneath her head; it was obvious enough that she was dead.
"Welp," Zero muttered as he looked at her corpse, "that was quite anticlimactic."
"Regaining control really was a pain," this time, he spoke through 46 as they both turned towards Hypnos.
"Shall we end this?"
