"It seems Hypnos, Erode and Titan didn’t return last night," a maid reported as she stood in front of the leader of the Splinters.
The man was very obviously pissed, but there was no change in the maid’s expression or even her tone as she continued.
"They are, very likely, dead."
"Is that so?" The Splinter’s leader muttered as he leaned his head on his fist.
Though angry, he didn’t let his mood be heard in his tone; instead, he focused on reevaluating Zero again.
As much as the three had gone against his order, the fact that Zero had defeated them remained.
Hypnos might not be particularly strong, but he was arguably one of the most dangerous Splinters, especially with his second awakening.
There was also Titan, who, after a failed second awakening, had become even more dangerous, so much so that he was more than a Gamma-ranked problem.
Perhaps even low Beta.
So given that Zero had managed to take them out, it meant that he was most likely a Beta-ranked problem.
There was also the possibility that the mercenary had help... either way, the Splinters’ leader kept his reassessment.
He looked at the maid for a while before asking, "What did the Ring think about this?"
"They haven’t said anything yet," the maid shook her head, "but it seems it’s because of him."
He frowned, hearing that.
After all, that man was quite unpredictable, but he seemed to have no interest in the groups he set up.
It was almost as if he deliberately formed the Ouroborus to sow chaos before he disappeared.
Given that he had called for a meeting twice within the past two months, it meant that something big was about to happen.
And like the last time, the Splinters were still not recognized enough by him to have them be invited to the meeting.
With a clenched fist, he said, "You’re dismissed."
With a small nod, the maid disappeared, leaving him to his thoughts. Slowly, the man massaged his head, trying to get his thoughts together.
Two of the four most important Splinters were now dead, which meant that the group was now even less like a villain group.
They could try going after Zero in retaliation, but that would be far too reckless. Instead, his next course of action was to recruit more Splinters to make up for their losses.
But that meant either relying on the Ring again or recruiting from the outside.
Neither was a viable decision for him, after all; one meant that he had to admit that they still needed the Ring, whilst the other risked them injecting spies into their group.
’Neither option is good,’ he thought to himself as he drummed his fingers on the armrest.
As for Zero, the Splinter Leader would bide his time for now... at least, until they recovered from this.
***
Unknown to the Splinter, Zero was already within their base... sort of.
In an elevator that went all the way to the basement was the yellow-haired speedster. He had a bored expression on his face as he continued downwards.
He had both hands in the pockets of his hoodie as he waited for the elevator doors to open, and a couple of minutes later, they did.
Calmly, he stepped into a long hallway with walls made of reinforced metal since this entire place was beneath layers of rock on the cliff side.
He looked up at the camera keeping an eye on him, and without hesitation, he continued forward.
"For a group described as third-rate," he muttered to himself, "they’ve got quite the base."
He soon came upon a sealed metal door, but he simply took a card out of his pocket and held it towards the scanner.
"Definitely not third-rate tech," he muttered to himself again as the doors let out a hiss and allowed him inside.
The yellow-haired splinter walked into what seemed like a massive lab... because it was.
The walls were made completely of white painted metals, and all around, he could see incomplete tech lying all around.
He then looked ahead and noticed a man in a white lab coat and goggles, but he seemed, very obviously, exhausted.
Dr. Crew.
"Quite the place you have here," the yellow-haired speedster said as the door closed behind him.
This was one place where there were no cameras or any device to listen in because Crew would simply create a tech that would blow them all up.
So the Splinters simply gave up on observing him even though he might be creating something to aid his escape.
Why?
Well, the leader had quite the leverage over him...his family.
This was why the man hadn’t tried escaping yet, even though he could probably create something to aid him with that.
"Cube said he’d be sending someone down; I didn’t expect it to be a kid," Crew said as he took off his goggles and looked at the kid before him. "Are you sure you want to try this?"
"Yes....well, that is what I would say if we were being observed," the kid said, "but I’m here for something quite different."
The excuse he had used to be granted permission to see Dr. Crew was his fight against Zero.
He had felt useless during that fight, so he wanted a way to gain more power. In other words, a forced second awakening.
Of course he knew the danger that came with it, he had ’seen’ what happened to Titan, but that was the only way he’d be granted permission to see the scientist.
"So why are you here?" Crew asked with a small frown on his face.
He really didn’t want to go through what he had with Titan when he ended up turning the man into a beast.
Especially given that this was a kid, but the kid’s next words caused him to freeze,
The yellow haired splinter looked at him before smiling and saying,
"I’m here to get you out."
