"So," Liam started as he paid attention to the road, "where would you like to go first?"
Olivia looked at her phone for a while before she finally replied, "There are a couple of places that Raika recommended."
Liam turned to her after stopping at a traffic light and said, "If they’re anywhere you want to go, then we can just head there instead."
Olivia lifted her head away from the phone and looked directly at him.
She noticed the emphasis he placed when saying ’you’, which meant that if there was a place she wanted to be, then she could just ditch her agent’s suggestions.
With a smile, she asked, "Are you sure?"
"Yes," Liam nodded with a smile of his own.
"Then," Olivia turned back to her phone, typed something into her maps before handing it back to him and saying, "Let’s go here."
Liam looked at the location on the map she had picked out before asking, "Are you sure?"
"Hmm," she nodded in response, her smile getting a bit wider.
Liam really didn’t want to go there... especially given what he was about to encounter there. Those things were worse than even a beta-ranked villain.
***
Cats.
The monsters that Zero, the greatest hitman known on Earth, was scared of... were cats.
The drive to the location that Olivia had selected was quite quick, and the two soon found themselves in front of a cat cafe.
Liam disliked cats because his master had forced him to try to steal stuff from those damn things.
Those trainings never ended well, as he always ended up with a fresh set of claw marks riddling his entire body.
The actual training was for his reflexes, one that would allow him to react as fast as or even faster than a cat.
Even after completing said training, Liam was still terrified of those little monsters.
Unfortunately for him, today was a day to earn brownie points with Olivia, so he had no choice but to tolerate them...just this once.
Ding!
The bell above the door let out a ring as the two walked inside and were welcomed to a paradise of cats.
"This was a weird choice, wasn’t it?" Olivia asked as she turned to him, though her excitement couldn’t even be properly hidden.
She liked cute things, and what was cuter than a cafe full of cats. This was her first time trying something like this, hence the excitement.
"No," Liam responded immediately.
Olivia blinked, seemingly surprised by how quickly he answered.
"I mean, it’s fine," he quickly corrected himself, trying to suppress the uneasiness growing inside him, "I’ve never been to a cat cafe before."
Olivia smiled before turning her attention towards the cats wandering around the cafe.
One of them, a small orange cat, suddenly walked towards her and rubbed itself against her leg.
Her eyes immediately lit up.
Liam watched as she crouched down and gently picked up the cat, her entire expression changing as she began petting it.
"You are so cute!"
The cat responded with a satisfied purr.
"Welcome to Pawradise, dear customer," a voice suddenly pulled their attention towards the counter. "Please take a seat."
Olivia, with the orange cat still in hand, walked towards one of the tables, and Liam followed suit.
The hitman’s senses were completely alert at this moment; fortunately for him, none of the cats seemed interesting approaching him.
Or at least that’s what he thought until he sat down.
"You seem scared of the children."
A voice caused him to turn to the side and he noticed a black cat there with a deadpan expression on its face.
Liam could’ve sworn it was the one that had spoken—
"I am."
The voice came again and the hitman realized two things. The cat was actually speaking and he was the only one hearing it right now.
"..." He looked at the black cat with a blank expression before ignoring it and turning back to Olivia who had a blush on her cheeks as she looked at the orange cat.
"Hey!" The black cat let out again, "don’t you dare ignore me!"
Again, Liam paid the cat no mind as he continued looking at Olivia.
Cats were one thing, but talking cats?
That was an entirely different level of bullshit.
"Hey!" Liam continued ignoring the black cat, "Are you deaf?"
’I’m not talking to a cat,’ Liam finally responded.
"Why?" The black cat seemed confused, "it’s not everyday you get to talk to a cat."
"Speaking of which," the cat suddenly realized something, "how can you understand me?"
’The better question would be, how are you talking?’
The black cat tilted its head as if the question genuinely confused it, "With my mouth."
’Funny,’ the hitman responded with a blank expression before he went back to ignoring the cat.
A server dressed in a cat maid outfit suddenly approached them and glanced at the black cat, then back at Liam before saying, "it seems Jet has taken a liking to you."
She smiled before adding, "he usually doesn’t approach any customers, so this is quite the surprise."
Taking advantage of the fact that the human’s lady’s eyes were now on him, Jet hopped on the hitman’s lap and got comfortable.
"This should help you overcome your fear," it said, as if its help had been requested.
’...’ Liam looked at the damned cat, but he couldn’t say anything either since Olivia now had her eyes on him.
"Can I take a picture?" she asked, hopeful that he’d say yes, and Liam, without much of a choice, nodded.
With a smile, Olivia quickly took out her phone, captured the moment and smiled as she looked at the image.
"You look cute."
Liam immediately turned towards her, "What?"
Olivia seemed to realize what she’d said and quickly looked back at her phone, "I said the cat looks cute."
"I see," the hitman muttered, aware that she definitely wasn’t talking about the cat.
It seems he had earned quite a few brownie points.
The cat maid smiled at the interaction before clearing her throat and asking, "what should I get you two?"
