"This is getting annoying."

It wouldn’t take long for Cube to realize that there was an intruder within the base, especially since he had sent the maid to retrieve one of Dr. Crew’s family.

He had intended to use them to remind the scientist of what he stood to lose, but given that the maid had taken a while, he’d soon realize that there was something wrong.

If he ended up coming here, then the hitman would have a hard time dealing with the two at once, which meant he needed to quickly get rid of the maid.

He needed to end this now.

Unfortunately, it seems that would be a lot harder than intended because the next second, every single piece of furniture within the room started floating.

The table, chairs, and even the bed slowly rose from the ground, hovering several feet in the air as if gravity had suddenly stopped applying to them.

"..." The hitman looked at the furniture with a blank expression. "This is going to take longer, isn’t it?"

In response, the maid simply extended her hand forward, and a chair was suddenly launched towards him.

The moment he managed to dodge that, a mini wardrobe was already headed towards him. Though it was quite fast, he managed to dodge beneath it.

He barely had time to recover before the table came flying next.

Zero jumped onto the wall, pushed himself off it, and moved through the air as the table passed beneath him.

The moment his feet touched the ground, three chairs came hurtling toward him from different directions.

"You’re really committed to the furniture thing, aren’t you?" Zero said with a deadpan expression.

He moved between the first two, then caught the third by its backrest and used its momentum to swing himself around it. The chair slipped from his grip and flew toward the maid, but she simply flicked her fingers.

The chair abruptly changed direction and slammed into the ceiling.

"...." Zero looked at her with a blank expression again; this fight really was getting annoying by the second.

Perhaps he should’ve let 46 fight her instead.

No, even though 46 was basically the perfect hitman, it would struggle quite a lot against the maid, especially given her Factor.

The hitman was immediately forced to leap backward as the bed crashed down where he had been standing.

It was followed by the table and several other chairs, which caused the floor to shake violently from all the impacts, filling the room with dust.

He could barely see her figure before something tugged violently at his ankle and his body was suddenly pulled off the ground.

"What—"

Zero was dragged sideways through the air and slammed into the wall.

BANG!

Before he could recover, the invisible string yanked him away again.

The hitman was dragged across the room like a rag doll before he was smashed against another wall, then pulled back toward the maid.

She was waiting for him with one of her poison-coated hairpins between her fingers.

The angle he was being pulled at made it impossible for him to resist the strings or even try to break it off him.

In the end, Zero simply let it drag him, but the moment he was close enough to the maid, she noticed a grin on his face as he said, "Say cheese."

BANG!

The next second, a flash of light was released from a metallic object that he had tossed between them, momentarily blinding her.

In retaliation, the maid caused the strings to launch him towards the opposite end of the room.

Zero managed to twist his body in midair and land on his feet, sliding several meters across the floor before finally coming to a stop.

The moment he regained his balance, a katana appeared in his hand, and his figure immediately became a blur as the distance between him and the maid disappeared almost instantly.

It seemed like she was still disoriented by the flash bang earlier, so by all means, she shouldn’t notice his attack.

But the moment he got close enough, Zero noticed a smile on her face, and he immediately realized that he had walked into her trap.

He soon realized that he was surrounded by the invisible strings from every single direction, and they were closing in fast.

"Shit."

***

Cube had a hand in his pocket as he calmly walked towards the door that led into Dr. Crew’s lab.

Since no tech was working at the moment, he simply lifted his hand towards the door and the next second, the metal folded into itself, becoming a perfect cube shaped.

The folded metal fell to the floor with a heavy clang, revealing the laboratory beyond it.

Cube stepped inside without hesitation, his expression remaining as calm as ever... well, that’s what his eyes said anyway.

No one knew what lay behind the mask.

As if expecting his arrival, Dr. Crew stood a small distance away from the door without an ounce of fear on his face.

"Now then," Cube said as his eyes rested on the scientist, "would you mind explaining what your plan was?"

"..." Crew said nothing, so the leader of the Splinters continued, "or did you actually think that the kid would be able to get you out?"

Dr. Crew remained silent, his eyes fixed on Cube as the leader slowly approached him.

"I’ll admit, I’m somewhat disappointed," Cube continued. "After everything you’ve seen, I expected you to be smarter than this."

Crew’s face seemed to take on a look of disappointment as he finally spoke up, "What the hell happened to you, kid?"

"..." Cube froze at the man’s words before he suddenly started chuckling, "Do you really think bringing up my past would miraculously cause me to let you or your family go?"

"Come on, Crew," He added, leaning forward a bit, "you’re a lot smarter than this."

"..."

The scientist continued looking at him with a disappointed expression before sighing and asking, "Is this because of Laura?"

BOOM!

The unfinished tech behind the scientist suddenly crumbled as a heavy pressure fell over them.

The leader of the Splinters then looked at the scientist as he said, "Say her name one more time."
