The Reincarnated Hitman

"I guess it’s time we properly get started."

Zero immediately regretted saying that because the next second, Cube took off the cracked mask, revealing a completely scarred face.

But the sight didn’t last for long, as the leader of the Splinters suddenly took out a similar mask, but this one was made completely of metal.

Dr. Crew’s eyes immediately went wide as he immediately identified the mask; after all, he was the one who made it.

"I agree," Cube said after putting on the mask.

He then lifted his hand towards the hitman and lightly flicked his fingers, and the next moment,

BANG!

Zero suddenly felt something slamming into his stomach, knocking the wind out of him and pulling him off the ground.

BOOM!

The hitman was slammed into a wall before getting buried in rubble of unfinished tech.

"You truly outdid yourself, Crew," Cube said, impressed at how easily he had activated his Factor.

It almost felt as if he had gone through a second awakening, and it was all because of the Amplifier tech Dr Crew had made for them.

Cube was the only Splinter that didn’t truly need an amplifier tech since his Factor was already strong enough.

Or at least, that’s what he believed until he tried on the tech.

He then turned towards Zero, who had pulled himself out of the rubble, and created a cast around his broken arm with his katana still in the other.

"You don’t look so good," Cube said, confidence evident in his tone.

"Yeah?" Zero muttered before spitting out a mouthful of blood, "I guess I forgot to do my hair today."

"..."

It seemed he hadn’t been hurt enough if he could still make jokes.

Cube stared at him for a few seconds before chuckling, "You really are an annoying little shit."

Zero simply shrugged before slowly straightening himself.

His broken arm was useless for now, and judging by the way his stomach felt, he was fairly certain he’d cracked a few ribs as well.

But instead of urgency or even danger, he only felt excited.

The last time he had been this hurt was his last day on Earth; there was also the training with his master, but that didn’t count.

He readied himself as the Splinter lifted his hand before flicking again.

Zero quickly moved his katana just in time to block a heavy force headed towards him. However, the unspent momentum launched him backwards.

Before he could be slammed into a wall again, Zero’s body became a blur as he disappeared, reappearing directly behind the Splinter.

For a second, it seemed like the katana would connect with Cube’s neck, and the leader of the Splinters was completely unaware of the incoming danger.

But just before the katana could reach his neck, it suddenly froze, as if obstructed by some type of force.

BANG!

Again, the invisible force slammed into the hitman’s chest, forcing him to let go of the blade as he was launched backwards again.

"I thought you would try that," Cube said, turning towards him, "and I truly would’ve lost my head back there."

The leader of the Splinters truly had been unable to track the hitman, but thanks to the amplifier tech, he was able to wrap his Factor around himself, protecting him.

"I thought you only did cubes," Zero muttered as he recovered from the attack.

"Well, it was quite hard maintaining other shapes," Cube responded before tapping his mask, "but thanks to this, I don’t have to worry about that anymore."

"How convenient," the hitman said before standing up straight, and a gun appeared in his hand this time, "let’s get rid of it, shall we?"

He then pointed it at the leader of the Splinters and pulled the trigger in three quick succession.

As expected, the bullets simply stopped when they were only a small distance away from Cube’s mask.

"You really thought that would work?" He asked, sounding disappointed.

"That’s a distraction," Zero explained.

"Huh?" Cube let out in confusion, but the next second,

BOOM!

The floating bullets exploded into another smoke cloud, quickly filling the entire room and blocking Cube’s vision.

Though he wasn’t too worried, and for good reason. As long as his Factor remained active, nothing Zero tried would work.

"What are you doing?" Cube asked, his voice remaining calm.

His reply came in the form of a katana being launched through the smoke, but that was easily stopped by his Factor.

The next second, another metallic object was launched through the smoke, then another and another.

Cube effortlessly stopped each one, crushing them before they could reach him.

"Is this supposed to accomplish something?"

Again, he received no response; instead, multiple strings obscured by the smoke were soon wrapped around him.

The hitman had already learned something important during his fight with the maid.

Her Factor had been far more troublesome when she could manipulate multiple objects simultaneously.

And that was exactly what he was currently doing.

Well, it would be more accurate to say he was doing battlefield control, but given Cube’s Factor, his actions seemed completely useless.

"This is getting boring," Cube said. "Why don’t you come out so we can play properly?"

The Splinter’s eyes continued scanning through the smoke until he noticed a silhouette, and he immediately activated his Factor.

BANG!

A force slammed into the silhouette, but Cube frowned when he realized that it was only a decoy.

That’s when he noticed something: every bit of the hitman’s actions so far seemed to have a reason behind them.

So why would he suddenly start doing something seemingly useless? As long as he had that amplifier mask on, there was no way any of his attacks....would...la—

The Amplifier mask.

"Special delivery," Zero’s voice suddenly came from behind him, forcing the Splinter to turn around.

A cylindrical object was headed towards his face, but as with all the other objects that had tried hitting him, this was also stopped by the force field around him.

But unlike the other objects, this didn’t simply fall harmlessly to the floor, as the next second,

BOOM!
