BOOM!
The object suddenly lit up before releasing a blast, one with enough force to launch the Splinter in the opposite direction.
Cube’s back slammed into a wall before he fell to the floor, completely disoriented by the blast.
Zero wasn’t about to let that chance pass him, but the moment he got close enough to the leader of the Splinters, his instincts suddenly warned him of an incoming danger.
The hitman retreated just in time to avoid being crushed into a cube-like form, alongside everything else in front of the Splinter.
Cube then took the chance to recover before noticing something strange; his control over his Factor wasn’t as smooth as it was a few seconds ago.
"W-what did you do?" He asked, looking at the hitman.
"I simply took away your unfair advantage," Zero responded with a smile.
The object he had tossed toward Cube was one Dr. Crew had created while he kept the Splinter busy.
It was an EMP blast.
The scientists had managed to assemble one with the incomplete tech he had lying around, but in truth, the blueprint for the EMP tech was his contingency against the amplifier tech.
So now, Cube could only rely on his base Factor, rather than an amplified one. But that did not mean he had gotten weaker.
It just meant that his mask was currently nonfunctional.
"I see," Cube said as he slowly lifted his hand towards the mask, pressed a button, and caused the amplifier tech to be released from his face.
Both Zero and Dr. Crew were, once again, presented to the sight of Cube’s face. He had a head full of messy black hair and eyes that were purple.
But the most eye-catching feature of his face was the countless scars on it, almost as if he had suffered some sort of burn.
Dr. Crew stared at him in silence.
He had seen Cube before, but never like this. The scars covered nearly every inch of his face, stretching from his cheek to his jaw and disappearing beneath his clothes.
Some looked old, while others seemed to have healed badly, leaving the skin permanently disfigured.
Before anything could be said, the entire laboratory began deforming around him as Cube attacked relentlessly, crushing tables, walls, equipment, and even sections of the floor into compact shapes.
Zero was forced to quickly reposition himself to avoid getting caught in it, but he also noticed that Cube seemed willing to try and crush everything within the lab just to get him.
Without the amplifier, his Factor had become harder to control, but it was still terrifying.
Still, the hitman was going to use that to his advantage since he could now, once again, sense Cube’s attacks before they reached him.
Positioning the katana in front of him, his figure suddenly became a blur as he disappeared.
Cube’s eyes immediately tried following his movements, but Zero had already vanished from his sight.
The next second, the Splinter suddenly turned towards his blind spot, lifted his hand, and just as he had expected, Zero was suddenly caught in his Factor with his katana still in hand.
"You’re getting predictable," Cube said as he tried crushing the hitman, but all he got was a smile in response, and he immediately realized that something was wrong.
But that realization came a little too late, because the next second, the Zero caught within his Factor exploded into smoke.
It was simply a clone.
Cube’s eyes widened as he felt strings wrapping around him and pulling him into the air.
Before he could recover, Zero appeared above him and slammed his foot straight into his face, causing the leader of the Splinters to crash back toward the floor.
BOOM!
The impact created a crater on the already damaged laboratory floor.
The Splinter let out a groan as he tried pulling himself from the crater. He was suddenly pulled forward by the strings again, but this time, he managed to recover just in time.
Zero was forced to release the strings as his instincts warned him of incoming danger.
At this point, the smoke had cleared up enough to allow the two to see each other, and Zero realized that Cube’s face was now full of annoyance.
The Splinter wanted nothing more than to get rid of the hitman, and he would do anything to achieve just that.
Without a word, he suddenly lifted his hand, but this time, instead of pointing it at Zero, who was ready to move at any second, he pointed it above him.
The hitman was confused for a while, wondering what the leader of the Splinters was up to, but he didn’t have to wonder for long,
Because the next second, his instincts went haywire.
Zero sensed the same kind of danger he usually sensed when Cube was about to attack with his Factor, but this time....
It coming from everywhere?
The walls around them started creaking as Cube tried forcing them to the center. The Splinter was willing to risk being buried beneath this entire underground laboratory if it meant taking Zero with him.
The hitman had a frown on his face as he said, "I can’t let you do that."
"Why don’t you try and stop—"
The Splinter suddenly froze as he noticed that something was wrong.
"I was wondering when it’d kick in," Zero said with a smile.
Cube then felt a warm liquid dripping from his nose, and he lifted a hand to touch it, only to realize that it was blood...his blood.
"W-what the hell did you do to me?" He asked with a frown on his face as he looked at the hitman.
He realized that he was slowly losing control of his muscles, and there was the fact that his Pragma was also going haywire.
"Poison," the hitman responded with a smile, "all the smoke you’ve been inhaling so far is filled with it."
Cube then vomited a mouthful of blood as his body slowly fell to the floor, and more blood started running down his nose.
Zero slowly approached him before crouching down and saying, "I guess you’re wondering how I’m unaffected if the smoke truly is full of poison...right?"
The hitman then created a syringe full of blue liquid before he added, "Crew is wearing a mask, and I made sure to take the antidote every time I was out of your sight."
"Quite smart, huh?"
