The Shadow King's Alpha : The Cursed Bond
Chapter 11: Beneath the Red Lunar Moon[The Next Day — Lunar Moon Night]
The sky had turned crimson.
A red lunar moon stretched across the heavens like a watchful eye, bathing the world beneath it in blood-colored light.
Tonight...no wolf would remain in human form once the moon’s blessing touched its soul. Across the continent, countless wolves waited beneath the sacred moon.
Some gathered to accept their destined mates. Some came to sever bonds that no longer belonged together. Others...stood before the spirits to receive judgment.
Tonight, beneath the lunar moon...every oath would be witnessed. Every lie would be exposed, and every soul would pay the price it owed.

[The Forest of Ashkarath—At the Same Time]
The forest was unnaturally silent; only the sound of heavy paws crushing fallen leaves echoed through the darkness.
Thud...
Thud...
Thud...
A massive red wolf moved through the ancient woods; his crimson fur was stained with dried blood, and numerous wounds still marked his body from the battle within the imperial palace, yet his steps never faltered.
Grand Duke Lior Vaelric.
Clenched firmly between his jaws hung a blood-soaked cloth sack. Fresh crimson still dripped from its corner. Inside...rested the severed head of Emperor Tharzek.
Lior’s amber eyes remained fixed ahead; he did not know where the Shadow King resided. He only knew one thing: he had promised, and no matter the cost...he would deliver the emperor’s head before the Lunar Moon.
Suddenly, he stopped.
Not far ahead stood an enormous black wolf. Its body was almost twice the size of an ordinary wolf, black mist slowly drifting from its fur.
One of the Ashkarath.
The ancient beast remained silent. Its black eyes settled upon the bloodstained sack hanging from Lior’s jaws. For several long moments...neither beast moved.
Then...the Ashkarath slowly turned around, without a single growl, without a single word. It simply began walking deeper into the forest.
Lior understood it was leading him.
Without hesitation, the Grand Duke followed; the two wolves disappeared deeper into the endless darkness beneath the crimson moon.

[Nhar’Zhul Veyth — Shadow Manor — The Dark Chamber — At the Same Time]
Warm droplets of water slid slowly from Kael’s black hair onto his shoulders. The purification ritual had ended, the attendants had already withdrawn; only the open chamber doors remained.
Kael stood silently in the center of the room, a dark towel wrapped securely around his waist while countless thoughts battled inside his mind.
On the bed before him...lay the ceremonial garments. Black, gold, and ancient.
Then a soft knock echoed outside. Zevran stood beyond the threshold, his silver eyes respectfully lowered.
"The hour has come," he said calmly; his voice carried no excitement, no joy, only solemn certainty. "Please prepare yourself for the Lunar Covenant."
Kael remained silent, his eyes never leaving the garments resting upon the bed. Zevran bowed once before quietly retreating, leaving him alone once more.
Silence returned.
Kael slowly approached the bed, his fingertips brushed across the dark fabric as he murmured quietly.
"It looks...more like mourning clothes than wedding robes."
After a long breath...he lifted the garments.
The inner robe was woven from deep midnight-black silk that shimmered faintly whenever moonlight touched it, almost as though shadows themselves had been stitched into every thread.
Over it rested a long outer robe of obsidian fabric, heavier than any ceremonial garment Kael had ever worn. Intricate patterns of ancient wolves, crescent moons, twisting roots, and flowing shadows had been embroidered across the sleeves and hem with fine golden thread. Every symbol appeared alive beneath the crimson moonlight, shifting ever so slightly whenever he moved.
A broad black sash was wrapped firmly around his waist, fastened by a dark silver clasp engraved with the crest of the Ashkarath...a colossal wolf standing beneath a blood-red moon.
The high collar framed his neck, hiding the bruises left behind by Lytharion’s hand, black leather bracers, reinforced with polished silver, covered his forearms.
Finally...a long cloak settled across his shoulders.
It flowed almost weightlessly behind him, lined with black fur so soft it resembled living shadow. The edges were embroidered with thin golden vines that climbed toward his shoulders before disappearing beneath the cloak’s mantle.
When Kael finished dressing...he slowly looked up, the man staring back from the polished obsidian mirror hardly resembled the heir of House Vaelric.
The crimson moon reflected behind him; the black robes swallowed every trace of the proud Red Wolf Alpha he had once been.
He looked...less like a groom, less like a warrior, and far more like someone dressed to walk willingly into the embrace of darkness itself.
Kael let out a slow, exhausted breath; his fingers tightened slightly around the edge of his sleeve. "So...this is the appearance of the Bride of Darkness."
For a long moment...he simply stared at his own reflection.
Then he turned toward the open doorway; his heart pounded heavily inside his chest. Every instinct screamed at him to run, but there was nowhere left to run.
Not anymore.
Kael closed his eyes briefly, took one final breath, and then stepped beyond the chamber and toward the fate waiting beneath the Red Lunar Moon.

[Later — The Path to the Lunar Covenant]
The manor had fallen silent; no voices echoed through the endless corridors. No servants wandered the halls. Even the shadows seemed to stand still beneath the crimson light filtering through the tall windows.
Only footsteps remained.
Kael walked behind Zevran through the endless black corridor, his heartbeat growing heavier with every passing moment.
Neither of them spoke.
At the end of the hallway stood a pair of towering obsidian doors unlike any Kael had seen before. Their surface was carved with enormous wolves kneeling beneath a crimson moon while ancient roots twisted around them like chains.
The air itself felt different, heavy and ancient. As though every breath carried the weight of forgotten centuries and standing before those doors was Lytharion.
The Shadow King.
His long black hair rested over one shoulder, while a ceremonial black mantle embroidered with golden shadows draped across one side of his broad frame. Layers of ancient robes flowed around him like living darkness, every golden thread catching the crimson moonlight until it seemed as though stars had been stitched into the fabric.
He did not move; he simply watched. Golden eyes settled upon Kael, slowly...a faint smile curved across his lips.
"There you are...my bride."
Kael’s footsteps faltered, and his throat tightened. Even after hearing that title countless times...it still made his skin crawl.
Zevran stopped several paces away before lowering himself into a respectful bow. "My Sovereign."
Lytharion paid him no attention; his gaze never left Kael. Slowly...he descended the final step separating them. Every footstep echoed like judgment. Kael forced himself not to retreat.
He refused.
Even though every instinct screamed at him to run. Lytharion stopped directly before him, and for a long moment...he simply looked. His golden eyes wandered from Kael’s black hair to the ceremonial robes wrapped around his body.
The black silk. The golden embroidery. The cloak. Every piece rested perfectly upon him.
A low chuckle escaped the Shadow King’s lips. "You finally understood you have nowhere left to go."
His hand rose before Kael could move; two fingers slipped beneath his chin, firm and possessive. Lytharion lifted Kael’s face until their eyes met, golden against amber.
"So much hatred...I can still see it." His thumb brushed lightly along Kael’s jaw. "But hatred fades. Pain remains."
Kael held his gaze without flinching. "If pain is all you have...then you’re far more pitiful than I thought."
Silence.
Even Zevran lowered his eyes, for one dangerous heartbeat...the corridor itself seemed to darken. Then Lytharion smiled, not because he was pleased but because Kael had amused him.
"You still possess the courage to provoke me." His fingers tightened beneath Kael’s jaw, and his whisper brushed against Kael’s ear. "Good, so that when I break it...I’ll know exactly how loud it sounded before it shattered."
Then rapid footsteps echoed through the corridor; an attendant hurried forward before dropping to one knee.
"My Sovereign."
Lytharion looked toward him. "Speak."
The attendant kept his head lowered. "The Red Wolf has arrived."
Kael’s heart skipped. The attendant continued. "He waits beyond the borders of Nhar’Zhul Veyth, carrying a blood-soaked bundle."
Silence.
Then...a slow smile appeared upon Lytharion’s face; his golden eyes shifted toward Kael once more. "So...the Grand Duke has honored his promise. It seems your father values your life more than his emperor’s."
Kael looked away; his chest tightened. Lytharion stepped closer again. "And now...it is your turn to honor yours."
Without warning—GRAB. His hand closed firmly around Kael’s wrist; the bruises left from before throbbed instantly beneath the pressure.
Kael winced. Lytharion turned toward the massive obsidian doors. "Leave the Red Wolf where he stands. No one enters until I permit it."
"Yes, my sovereign."
The attendants bowed deeply. Lytharion pushed open the towering doors.
BOOOOOOM...
The ancient doors parted slowly, cold air rushed outward, and darkness swallowed them whole. Without another word, Lytharion pulled Kael inside; the doors closed behind them with a thunderous roar.
Outside...Zevran remained standing alone before the sealed entrance; he lowered his head. No one would interrupt what was about to begin...not tonight.

[The Lunar Chamber—Moments Later]
Silence.
An ancient silence older than kingdoms. Older than wolves. Older than memory itself. Kael slowly lifted his eyes; the colossal tree stood before him once again.
Its enormous black trunk reached endlessly toward the heavens, while countless silver veins pulsed beneath its bark like frozen rivers of moonlight.
Tonight...the tree looked different. The red lunar moon rested directly above its branches. Its crimson light poured over every root, every leaf, every twisted limb until the entire tree appeared drenched in blood.
The silver veins beneath the bark glowed a deep scarlet; the roots creeping across the marble floor pulsed slowly...like the heartbeat of a living god.
The air itself trembled.
Ancient runes carved into the obsidian floor awakened one after another, crimson light spreading through every line until the entire chamber became one enormous ritual circle.
The silver candles surrounding the altar ignited by themselves.
One, then another, then another, and within moments hundreds of ghostly flames surrounded the ancient tree.
Kael felt the hairs on the back of his neck stand. Lytharion released Kael’s wrist; for the first time since dragging him here, he lowered his head, not in submission but in acknowledgment.
Lytharion slowly stepped toward the ancient altar; moonlight poured over his black robes, and his golden eyes reflected the crimson moon above.
He turned toward Kael; there was no smile upon his face now. Only the solemn authority of a deity standing before powers older than empires.
His voice was calm and absolute as he extended one hand towards Kael. "Let...the Lunar Covenant begin."
