Chapter 67: Chapter 68: Acquiring Chickens
"You bastard, you dare to curse me!" Xiao Zhen’s face suddenly flushed red as she pointed at Li Yang and raged, "Say that again and I’ll rip your tongue out."
"Stop arguing!" Zhao Xuechu’s ears were ringing. She quickly played the peacemaker. "Alright, let’s go check the quality of Li Yang’s chickens first. We can discuss everything else after that, okay?"
Xiao Zhen was still not convinced and shot Li Yang a glare.
But Li Yang looked completely unfazed.
He hadn’t said that just to provoke her. On the contrary, he was telling the truth.
When he’d looked at Xiao Zhen earlier, he’d been able to see a red line on her body.
It extended from her lower abdomen and now reached her navel.
’This is a bit strange. It isn’t an illness, just a surge of unholy fire.’
Li Yang got into his car, while Zhao Xuechu and Xiao Zhen got into another.
"Zhenzhen, do you really have a lot of that ’unholy fire’?" Zhao Xuechu suddenly asked.
"Unholy fire" was, in fact, a euphemism. Everyone knew what it really meant.
"Xue Chu, don’t listen to his nonsense!" Xiao Zhen’s face was slightly flushed. "He’s just making things up to provoke me."
"His medical skills are impressive. I’ve seen them for myself," Zhao Xuechu said seriously. "If you’re really feeling unwell, you could ask him. He’s quite experienced."
"Fine, fine, fine..." Xiao Zhen nodded repeatedly, but inwardly she was sneering.
’Me, ask *him*?’
’What a joke!’
He led Zhao Xuechu into the village and found Zhou Liyun.
"Sister-in-law Liyun!" Li Yang said with a smile. "Come, come, the person who’s here for our chickens has arrived."
Zhou Liyun hurried out. "But we don’t have that many chickens yet."
"It’s fine that we don’t have many!" Li Yang grinned. "Let’s slaughter one and make some soup."
"Alright!"
Soon, the chicken was slaughtered, prepared, and placed in a pot to stew.
After more than an hour of stewing, a uniquely fragrant aroma began to waft from the pot.
"That smells amazing!" Xiao Zhen had been growing impatient. If it weren’t for the pleasant scenery in the village, she would have suggested they leave long ago. But now, catching the scent, her interest was suddenly piqued.
Indeed, an incredibly rich aroma was wafting from the clay pot.
Zhao Xuechu’s appetite was thoroughly whetted.
She was in the restaurant business and had tasted plenty of chicken, but in terms of aroma, she couldn’t recall anything that compared to this.
Astonished, she walked over.
Li Yang beat her to it, stepping forward and lifting the lid.
Instantly, an even richer and more intense aroma billowed out.
"Here!" Li Yang had Zhou Liyun bring over some bowls and ladled one for each of the women.
Zhao Xuechu took a sip and felt a jolt run through her entire body.
The fatigue from the long day seemed to melt away completely into that bowl of soup.
"How good can it possibly be..." Xiao Zhen muttered, still unconvinced. But after a single sip, her face flushed red, and she swallowed all the nasty remarks she had been about to make to Li Yang.
’This is just too delicious.’
And this chicken had been simply stewed. There were no other ingredients; at most, they had only added a little salt.
Yet, it was unimaginably savory and delicious.
"So, what do you think?" Li Yang asked Zhao Xuechu with a smile. "Convinced now?"
"This is incredible!" Zhao Xuechu decided on the spot. "I’m not looking for any other suppliers. I want you to supply me with your chickens!"
"No problem!" Li Yang grinned. "But what about the price?"
"Aren’t you a shareholder?" Xiao Zhen finally found an opening, pointing at Li Yang. "You’re a shareholder and you’re still asking for money?"
"These aren’t my chickens!" Li Yang was exasperated. "My sister-in-law raised them. They’re hers. Are you suggesting we just take them without paying? You want to rob her?"
Xiao Zhen was left speechless.
"A chicken of this quality and weight... probably a little over three pounds," Zhao Xuechu estimated. "A typical free-range chicken goes for about fifty yuan a pound. How about this: I’ll give you two hundred yuan per chicken, and I want them all to be this size. Deal?"
Zhou Liyun’s eyes lit up.
’Three pounds for two hundred yuan.’
’That’s almost seventy yuan a pound!’
’Of course that’s a great deal!’
"Xue Chu, that price is too high!" Xiao Zhen said, alarmed.
But Zhao Xuechu was unmoved.
’If I can really secure a supply of chicken this good, how could my business possibly fail?’
’The herbs are top-tier, the recipes are top-tier, and now the chicken is top-tier... If the business still fails after all this, I might as well just pack it all in and go home. Why even bother?’
"Deal!" Li Yang nodded. "We’ll go with that price."
"Do you have anything besides chicken?" Zhao Xuechu asked excitedly. "My menu is a bit monotonous at the moment."
"We’re developing more!" Li Yang grinned. "They’ll be available soon."
"Great. Ducks, fish, whatever. Just get me more variety. I can use it all."
"You can count on it!" Li Yang said with a smile.
"You got lucky!" Although Xiao Zhen was deeply dissatisfied, there was nothing she could do. She shot Li Yang one last glare before following Zhao Xuechu out.
"Xiaoyang, does this mean we have a long-term customer now?" Zhou Liyun asked, still a bit dazed but also overjoyed.
"Sister-in-law Liyun, the Grand Golden Pavilion Hotel has always been a major long-term client," Li Yang said with a laugh. "We’ve just added one more to the list."
"But our chicks haven’t grown up yet," Zhou Liyun said. "We can’t supply that many."
"We’ll buy them!" Li Yang said seriously. "Every household in our village raises chickens. Some might only have a dozen or so, while others have several dozen. We’ll buy them, bring them here, and you can raise them for a while. Once the quality of their meat improves, we can sell them, can’t we?"
